I have Marfan syndrome. I've ripped my latissimus dorsi and my left shoulder. I have an almost dislocated hip with hip impingement. My clavicle is raised up on one side almost like quasi modo but not obviously bad like that. I have a cleft chest and was born with a collapsed lung and I must say that physical activity is a must if you hope to do anything with this problem. Sure you are always more flexible than everyone but without physical activity you would fall apart much faster. Strength training has kept me together more or less. I've had heart pain and lung pain before so I think I should get my heart checked out now that I've seen this video! Thanks, it could be a life saver.

Doc thanks for bringing that up. I think you should mention that Marfan is a spectrum of disorder. I have all the signs of Marfan (myopia, finger & thumb sign, scoliosis, pectus excavatum, etc) to the point that my Marfan systemic score is above 7. But no family history of marfan (genetic mutation is possible) and observed aortic dilation. So, my doctor cleared me to lift weights and play sports. I still get echocardiogram every year though. To this point I really don't know if I have it or not. But I like to think that I don't have it so I live like a normal person.

It does not always appear immediately and it can be either mild or severe for some people.

Apparently he was cleared in like 2016 to play by a dr but I believe the nba still won’t let him play.

How do you get to be that old and not know you have Marfans? Its such an outwardly disease. Maybe its because my best friend and some family members have it, but it's VERY easy to look at somebody and realize they aren't just tall and lanky, there's something else there.

Marfan’s wasn’t even on the radar of most family doctors until the early 2000’s. The genetic test for it is less than 20 years old. Marfan is a spectrum so you might have some symptoms and not others. Also, you can have a spontaneous mutation of Marfan’s so you have no other family members with the same physical problems. That’s what happened to me. Had all these seemingly unconnected problems that no one connected until my eye doctor who had another patient with Marfan asked me if I knew about it. Consider yourself lucky if you knew right away instead of sounding off from your high horse like a Becky. 🙄🥱

He should have sued the NBA.

Litigation is not always the answer. It is in the interest of the player and the league to not have athletes dying on the court. Imagine it the other way. NBA says cool... He plays a few years and dies or has a experience that nearly kills him at practice. Family Sue's the NBA . They knew the risk, and let him play anyway.
