What a clear and concise explanation of Medicare! I'm 63 and just starting to look at the process. Your video will be a great help to many. We'll likely be calling you in the future. Thanks indeed!
What sucks about Medicare for me is I have only been paying $1 for Blueshield under Covered CA. Now I have to pay $170 for Medicare. Ridiculous to think I can all of a sudden pay almost $200 more a month for insurance. Plus a supplement? This makes me sick…
Choosing your agency was the best gift I gave myself for turning 65! I am enjoying catching up on your videos- I learn something new with each one. Another big thank-you Stephanie! -Maria in NC
I like the big cola raise I was supposed to get this year but medicare premium took it all and then some (like they always do) so now I'm at the federal poverty line. Thanks medicare and our compassionate, empathic govt.
Absolutely right thats why the government did what they did on the cola were are worse off now then we were before. All of us elderly people are going to be left to just dye cause we won’t have any money to buy groceries and can’t afford none of our medicine And economy price are out of site. What are us low income people going to do now?How are we to pay for food and everything just im been low income for 14 years doing with out necessities!!!!! Rent is going up also like everything I’m-scared to death I guess you’re are better off not living less worried. Who brought all this upon us. Sorry im elderly with major medical problems. Please respond if you have and information of what all i said. No family no body living by my self . God Bless Us All 🙏🙏✝️✝️
Wow! That made the most sense of anything I've watched so far! Going to watch your other videos. I'm coming up on 65 in less than 5 months and have no idea what I'm doing so far. But I'll learn. Especially with good videos like this.
I think one good reason to NOT GET a supplemental (medigap) plan is because it would encourage doctors to prescribe more expensive or unnecessary procedures because they won't cost the patient. I want there to be "skin in the game" so I can squeal bloody murder with authority against medical adventurism.
Stephanie, thanks for all your insight. How is this for thinking about the next year 2023? beginning January 1, 2023, the plan is to start the use of Insulets Omnipod 5 closed-loop insulin pump system. Tubless as opposed to a Tandem tubed system covered under part B and current supplement. The required Dexcom CGM and be covered by Part B plus supplement. The Omnipod 5 pump system falls under Part D. It is not cheap. My question is, will it, alone under Part D, by purchasing Walmart insulin out of pocket at $73 a month, cause me to enter the donut hole sometime into 2023? I will need to get the correct Part D in October to cover the cost. My concern is as being equipment and not a drug cause the donut hole eventually. From what I understand it is considered a tier 4 cost. Do I make any sense? Thanks, Chuck Harrell
@@Illini444 yes we can help, and that is a good idea to make a video specifically about that! Our video on Medicare Advantage versus Medicare Supplement helps to explain that as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6EDXHe2IKXw.html
Should you sign up for Part D or just use discount cards like CVS single pay or, GoodRX, AARP discount…. I’ve been using discount cards which, at times is cheaper than my insurance.
Hello! Thanks for your great presentation. I am still working and have medical coverage through employer. I will be 65 in Sept. What do I need to do now, if anything? To avoid penalty charges or other issues. Thanks for your comments.
Stephanie, you really make sense out of a very overwhelming and complex insurance plans. One question I have is if you sign up for Original Medicare can you change to an Advantage Plan down the road? Thanks for your help!
I decided to avoid Medicare advantage and stay in original Medicare with a supplemental plan Hopefully Medicare is still around in two years when I’m 65. Thanks for the good information as always
Want to thank you for these informative videos which are clear and concise. I'll be in touch with you soon if you service Pennsylvania. I turn 65 in August.
In part A, if the hospital stay extends above 60 days then the amount which the patient has to pay is Coinsurance or Copay? I always thought it's a Copay...please clarify.
Very informative. Is there a copay or deductible for a traditional Medicare with secondary? I know that there is a deductible with Medicare which the secondary will take care of. But how about the secondary itself? Does it have a copay or deductible?
It depends on the plan. For example, Medigap Plan N has copays associated with office visits and ER visits. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FnRtRP513Yo.html
Thank you for your informative videos! I will be auto enrolled for A&B. I don't quite understand how to sign up for a Medigap plan(s). We must use a broker? Thank you.
Stephanie, if you go with say a N Medigap with a specific insurance company, can you stay with N down the road but switch insurance companies if they have high rate increases. Also, if the insurance company offers Customer service, what is the advantage of having a broker? Thank you for your help.
To switch from one Medigap company to another, even if you keep the same benefit plan, you will have to pass through medical underwriting in most states. A (good) independent broker can help you choose the best carrier that has low annual rate increase, can offer policy service year round, help you with Part D, and help you shop your Medigap plan among many carriers. I hope this helps!
Stephanie, this is a very easy to understand presentation…. Thank you for that! Are you licensed in California? I am 64 and employed, my 65 year old husband is retired. I provide our health care insurance through my job. I plan to retire at the beginning of 2023, will likely use Cobra to bridge the gap until my 65 birthday, but need to get my husband insurance. He has previously signed up for Part A. I’ll reach out if you are able to assist.
Stephanie, I am going to continue working after 65 but will be enrolled in Medicare A & B with a Supplement. The $170 Plan B monthly fee from what I understand will be invoiced to me. My employer is also taking out Medicare tax out of my paycheck. Is there a way to quit the Medicare withdrawal from my paycheck since Medicare will invoice me for the $170? Just seems that it is a double dip matter if employer is still deducting a portion based on my income during the pay period. Also, if at the annual enrollment period, if I want to switch from Medicare A & B with supplemental to a Medicare Advantage Plan, are there any penalties or issues switching?
Unfortunately you will still have to pay Medicare taxes while you are actively employed. If you have a Medigap/supplement plan now and then you want to switch to a Medicare Advantage plan during the fall Annual Election Period you can, no medical underwriting. I hope this helps!
So, if I understand this right. If I've been collecting social security 4 months prior to turning 65, I am automatically enrolled in Medicare A & B? My question is, does that mean I automatically will pay the $170.10/month? I don't understand.
I am 64 in 2 weeks. My wife is 65 in 1 week. I work and have insurance for both of us. Company has around 55 people. What are our near term Medicare sign up requirements? The thought of penalties scares us.
As long as you are actively working with employer coverage, and your employer has 20 + employees, you can delay Medicare Part B until you retire without penalty. You can also delay Part A if you have an HSA and are making contributions, if you can you can can enroll in Part A only . I hope this helps!
Hi Stephanie! Do you need to choose your plan exactly 3 months before turning 65? The exact day or beginning of that month for Medicare to start on your birthday month. Thanks again for your help. Also do you first get a username and password for SS and then same for Medicare. To research their website?
You can create individual log ins for both the ssa.gov site as well as Medicare.gov. When you apply online for Medicare, you will be apply for Parts A and B only. You do not need to select a part D drug Plan /Medicare Advantage plan on this application. You have up to 3 months after your birth month to select a Part D drug plan or a Part C Medicare Advantage Plan, and you have up to 6 months from your Part B effective date to select a Medigap plan without medical underwriting. I hope this helps!
@@AbtInsuranceAgency thanks Stephanie! My present insurance expires end of 2022. So I should probably choose that Medigap & D in December. So I have coverage come January 2023? Right. Sorry I want to make sure I do everything correct. You’re so helpful. I know I have time, but I like to be ready early.
Yes, if you are collection social security benefits prior to turning 65 then the government will automatically enroll you in Parts A and B of Medicare.
@@AbtInsuranceAgency they will enroll you when you turn 65? What are options if you retire at 62 and stop receiving medical coverage through your employer?
After having insurance through an employer while working, Medicare has a difficult learning curve. This video does a great job explaining it at a high level. Thank you!
Do you also help young adults navigate the insurance mess that’s out there? My daughter has limited options thru her employer and chose a plan for this year that’s been useless and not accepted anywhere. Whne enrollment begins, she doesn’t want to make that mistake again.
I also don't understand the $1,556 Inpatient deductible. Do you mean that's how much I have money I am able to use for the first 60 days? and on the 61st day, i start to pay the daily coinsurance? if so, does that mean i pay that everyday after the 60th day?
The deductible is what you owe for the first 60 days. If your stay extends past 60 days you will owe additional daily coinsurance on top of that deductible. I hope this helps!
If you are drawing social security then the premiums will come from your SS check. I talk about that more here -ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U2oRK9lQ7PA.html
Thanks for sharing this information and trying to help us understand Medicare. I read on the AARP website that you can qualify for a Plan B SEP (without penalty) if you are living in another country and are covered under their “public national health service“. My wife and I are currently living in Spain where she is working. I am turning 65 this year and plan on returning to the USA in 2-3 years. Can I enroll in plan A this year and wait 2-3 years before enrolling in Plan B? Muchas gracias!
@@sophiemac7494 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U2oRK9lQ7PA.html Medicare will bill you directly via quarterly bill and you can pay them directly.
If a person signs up for the Traditional Medicare plan and a year later decides that they wished they had signed up for the Medicare Advantage plan, can they change plans or are they stuck with their first choice?
@@AbtInsuranceAgency Thank you for your reply! 😀And if you don't like the Advantage plan, can you switch to the Traditional plan the following year - or are you locked in to the Advantage plan until the end 🙄?
Question: most Medicare RU-vid videos tend to favor an assortment of Medicare Advantage plans probably because they receive a small compensation when they sell those plans - so my question is, does Medicare pay you folks to sell Medicare Plan B and supplemental plans, or do you also promote Medicare Advantage plans?
We sell Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement plans and get paid a commission on sales for both types of plans. We help people with the best plan for THEIR needs.
@@AbtInsuranceAgency Another Question: If Medicare makes all the decisions on claims, where the Medicare supplement insurance has no say in what is covered or what is not covered, as long as our doctors determine it is medically necessary - then the question is, does it matter which medicare broker we buy the supplemental plans from?
Here's a question everyone should ask all insurance companies...if they say they give free services and feds r covering it's not free how much r u paying? They send u in a circle and cant answer.. so wheres money going we can go to doctors to get seen...why slow people down! How much r we paying? Gaslighting why? Nothing is free we r paying so how much? Doesn't make sense to have insurance companies do a doctors job....so how much!
I've been trying to get my Korean wife enrolled through Medicare. However, since I am a retired service member in Korea and my wife is Korean they said I have to go through the US Embassy in the Philippines. I started in March 2021 and some of the delay was sending certified mail to Manila. I did that through a military postal service. It took a month to get to Manila, the Philippines and sat there for 3 months due to a lock down. Finally around October the Medicare section in Manila said all the correct paper work was done and was sent to the US for processing. My wife still hasn't received anything and now it has been 11 months and 2 weeks since we have started. I contacted Medicare in the US but they said I have to check with the US Embassy in the Philippines. However, the US Embassy says they have to wait for Medicare to finish in the US. Talk about lazy, worthless and incompetent people. As a retired US Army service member, I was proud to serve my country. My only regret is that we also serve and protect those who could care less about us.
Medicare what a joke, my question is what happened with all the money that was taken from my pay Check for so many years and on top of that they want to take more money from my social security after I retire. Medicare should be free period. When I retire sayonara amigos i will leave the country an never come back.
My mother worked in the textile industry for over about 33 years and it is literally back breaking work. It destroyed her spine and hands after 7 surgery's she was completely disabled. The nature of these jobs most often you only end up making minimum wage, it is like a waitress everyday day you the opportunity to make a lot of money but that only works if others feel like it. So my mother did what you are supposed to do. Go to work every day, work as can. Her prize disability. If she didn't get SSDI how should pay for the insurance?
@@richardargst157 Right, however if a person is on SSDI they will be on Medicare. If you have enough savings and/or income for private insurance you would not qualify for SSDI.
@@richardargst157 Your time is going to come and THEN you appreciate the benefits of Medicare which by the way you currently pay for if you are working. That's why you must have 40 quaters of working history to qualify, it's not socialized medicare for anyone!
