York was a city that we had heard a lot about but never had the opportunity to visit. The city, which is particularly famous for having the oldest Viking settlement in England, also hosts historical artifacts from Anglo-Saxon, Roman and Medieval England. We visited a representative of each of them, had lunch in one of the city's most iconic pubs, and then had a wonderful cold chocolate, toured the city walls of York for a bit, and returned home.
York can be a good choice for a day trip from London. You can add York to your route, especially if you have a week or longer itinenary based in London. You can arrive in York after a 2-hour journey by high-speed train and return to your room or home after having a nice day.
