Lovely video with perfect information, the church, windmills, farmers market, canals & gouda cheese 🧀 everything is so fascinating 😀😊 I appreciate the way u narrate any video so peaceful & exactly just like BBC documentary, so good to hear & understand. Thanks for sharing 👍😊
Thanks for your wonderful tour of those cities. Such beautiful buildings and many of the cobbles looked original. Didn’t spot many narrowboats on the canals. Are the waterways mainly used for tourists?
What amazing cities, I feel like I've stepped back in time with the markets of produce and architecture. Stress levels go down with the absence of cars and the like. Thanks again for the tour. =-)
Just discovered your channel. Love your thoughtful and descriptive presentation. Will be spending 3 days in Amsterdam in May and have been looking for the best day trips to discover more of the country. These 2 look promising. Also thinking of Utrecht. Have you made a vid of that town?
We only had 3 days and didn’t make it to Utrecht I am afraid. We hope to go back sometime as it was a really surprise at how lovely these old town are. Hope you have a great trip.
this makes me miss the markets. I lived in Belgium 20 minutes from the Dutch border with Hulst being closest and Sluis a bit further. amersfoort looks quite like Sluis, but is certainly bigger. Nostalgia ! Thanks for sharing !
Beautiful towns! In Europe and the British Isles, the people seem to respect and cherish historic architecture. I can't say the same about places like New York City. As I will never be able to travel abroad, I sure do appreciate your "tours"!
Thank you for the awesome tour! I am curious, though - what type of trees are lining the canals? The ones with the four branches, that seem to connect to the trees beside them?
The calliope in the street was such a treat! You two are stellar... thank you for keeping your talents "collective" rather than corporate. :) -- from the Midwest, US.
Thank you for this delightful video. This brought back memories of when I visited The Netherlands, we stayed in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, saw the Hague, Delft, and went to a farm where Gouda cheese was made, and of course we brought back loads of it. We didn't get to see everything, but your video helps fill in the gaps of what we missed.
The forward leaning houses were build as merchant houses and they used to have a tackle on the top floor just below the roof to haul the goods up for storage, if those houses would have been straight up the merchandise would be clanging against the wall and windows. You'll find these houses in all old trading cities like Amsterdam and Leiden. Btw Amersfoort is not located in Holland but in the province of Utrecht 😉 Nicely done though.
So interesting thank you! Makes a lot of sense, and clears up why I thought they would be leaning when others were not, as if the street was unstable. Thanks!
Great video, I have worked in the Netherlands many times but always drove past these two gems on my way to other destinations. The lean you saw on many of the houses is intentional. Many of the buildings have hooks on the gables to facilitate lifting goods to the upper floors, and the lean of the building assists with this
@@MemorySeekers you’re very welcome, I very much enjoy your videos, perfect pace and well narrated. If you return to The Netherlands I highly recommend Heusden and Zaanse Schans
I finally had time to sit down, relax and watch the 2 video's of your stay in Holland. It was an absolute joy seeing the Keukenhof, Kinderdijk and medieval cities through your eyes 😊 It was all beautifully shot and narrated. Seeing Gouda and Amersfoort makes me want visit them again as its been ages, I liked the overall atmosphere plus ofcourse the history! Probably will be doing some daytripping during the summer holidays, by train from The Hague Central 😂 Thank you, guys for these video's. Much love to you both ❤
Certainly look very foot-friendly! I can see you could enjoy a car-free visit to this area of Holland quite easily. Thanks for sharing - hope you're both keeping well.
Yes very easy to get around without a car and certainly wouldn’t bother with one. The public transport is very good! 😊 we are fine thanks, hope all is good with you.
As a big UK-fan, i often watch your videos. You guys create a better content, than the German National TV. Hope you'll visit my hometown Oldenburg someday and the surrounding countryside like the Ammerland or the Wesermarsch. Bremen is also nice, especially the Weserstadion and Werder Bremen. It's not far from the Netherlands. Greetings from Leipzig actually.
Hello, thank you for the lovely comment. I have noted down the places you mention on our pin map so we are in the area we remember to take a look. They certain do look beautiful and worth a trip sometime. Thanks for the tips. Always good to find new places we didn't know anything about. All the best!
@@MemorySeekers You're always welcome in Germany. Forgot to mention, the RAF was once stationed in Oldenburg. But if you guys want to see some really stunning places, you may visit München, Erfurt, Dresden, Lübeck, Leipzig, Weimar, Potsdam, Wiesbaden, the Mosel-Area, Tübingen, Stuttgart, Sigmaringen, Düsseldorf,...
Sadly for some reason and I can only guess for Easter the places we would have liked to have gone in were closed up. This was filmed on the Easter weekend last year.
