plywood huh? Or at the very least, layered. Interesting. I've been avoiding using plywood for the most part cause I've heard it deadens sound. But I guess with a box instrument, all 4 sides have equal surface and width, so would all be able to resonate fully and its less of a problem. cool.
@@Sombre____ I mean... do you know how much this specific one costs? Plywood is fairly commonplace with budget acoustic guitars, so its clearly possible to make a competent string instrument with it. If this one is lower cost, then why is it a bad thing?
Yes. For the same price you can have one with real wood. That's the problem, here. I'm sorry but a plywood instrument is a crap instrument. A guitar is not just a plywood instrument... there is more in it than that. The guy took plywood from the store and called that an instrument.... i would feel ashame to scam people with that.@@curvingfyre6810
What do you put on the wheel so the strings dont break, I cant imagine the strings not Breaking without some kind of protection, or am i completens wrong? :))
Cotton is placed on the strings. But its not to keep them from breaking, its so they resonate better. Also, resin is put on the wheel (like you would an ordinary bow).
Until the point where the rhythmical cicada starts, it sounds so much like a bagpipe! Is this natural to the instrument, or is it the player's technique?
Dear Liangliang, you cvan order one by us. We can make and deliver on in 5 weeks! :-) Write me an e-mail privately, I can write you all the details! Thank you in advance, Robert Mandel robertmandel@robertmandel.at or at facebook! If you find me please send me a message there too! :-)
Mandel ,makes Strong robust instruments ,without compromising on sound!..... From a hurdy gurdy player with,23 years of experience of playing and tinkering ,with hurdy gurdys !
A plywood box can't sound great. Especially if it's a gurdy. At least, get real wood. The box shape is still bad anyway and will sound like crap. You never played a real gurdy apparently.
Can't see all your comment. Just saying, buy a real gurdy with real wood and not glued plates together. And you will see the difference in terms of sound. If plywood was a good wood for string instrument, then, all the violin would be in plywood. An Hurdy gurdy is just a reversed violin after all. Mandel make crap instruments since 23 years.
@@Sombre____ p.s you can't compare a violin to a hurdy gurdy ...your showing your ignorance ....the two instruments are chalk and cheese a hurdy gurdy does not work on the same sound principals in relation to construction materials as a violin ......if you knew anything ...about hurdys you would know that .....!
You are totally ignorant then. Violin , cello, hurdy gurdy, nyckelharpa are all the same family. If a guy sell you an instrument made in plywood, you got scammed, simple. If you think your sound is amazing then you are deaf.@@lightningspirit2166
Hurdy Gurdy, Cello, Violin and Nyckelharpa are all from the same family. It's all bowed instrument. The wheel, the rosin and the cotton act as an infinite bow on the strings. I'm pretty documented about the history and the way an hurdy gurdy work since i'm looking to build one myself even if i've already two of them. I will even say than a "too good" hurdy gurdy, like a weichselbaumer is not a good instrument to buy because it sound more like a violin than an hurdy gurdy. The instrument is too much perfect to be acceptable. And instrument in plywood is equivalent to stealing the customer. No real instrument maker use plywood to make their instruments. If they have honor. Mandel is not an instrument maker, at best, it's an ikea manufacturer. 23 years than he is doing that crap and nobody say nothing. You can have a better chifoni in france for the same price with real wood. @@lightningspirit2166
You are great boy. expensive? You do not have money, that is all. By the way it is nota garbage, this is a very good instrument just read others or ask anyone among the hurdy-gurdy players: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o41ezmsCb00.html
