The more you meditate you will soon figure out even that this world is an illusion this is the creation of our own mind and we are the creators of our own destiny.

I've meditated for 1 hour a day for 3 months now, I can already see drastic changes, I can focus almost the same as when I was proscribed adderall for adhd, I have more patience, empathy, I can even remember all my dreams now, I used to be very forgetful and have anger problems too, Im an all around happier and more aware person, it really helped me

That is AMAZING. Believe it or not but the benefits still compound over time. I've been at it around 2.5 years now (begin the 1 hour jan 2018). It's an incredibly slow process, gruelingly slow even and with many ups and downs. For example, you may find that the benefits start to subside or that strong negative emotions start to bubble up and take away from your experience or that you have a phase of incredible progress seemingly out of nowhere - all of this is completely normal. Despite the ebbs and the flows with where your meditation or well being are on a day to day basis, the net direction is positive. Keep up the incredible work Justin. The benefits are truly just beginning :)

I agree . I was diagnosed with ADHD and my intellect was never phased growing up and now as an adult , but I was never laser focused . I only meditate for 20 minutes everyday but my goal is to work my way up to one hour.

You'll start to get crazy results once you hit the hour mark... But the results are also very subtly and easily taken for granted if we're not paying attention. It seems like it'd be tough practicing with ADHD, but on the other hand, I can see how it would be extremely helpful. Good luck with your practice :)

That's awesome! Congratulations! Just something I'd like to caution you with - Increasing the time can sometimes backfire if it's too intense of an increase. This is serious work, we're reprogramming the mind with this practice and sometimes this can be quite intense. It's almost like if someone who's never squatted before went and tried to one rep max a 400lb squat, their body would be totally incapable of handling it. So just be careful! Overall, follow your gut. If you're wanting to do more, try it out and be gentle with yourself :)

Damn, this really got to me. I've always been perceived by others as a joyful, funny, easy-going guy, while on the inside I feel neglected, misunderstood and sad. Something you mentioned really hit me: do not supress negative emotions, as they get drilled into your subconscious. I've always supressed my sadness or my anger in order to not be a burden to other people, and also for the fear of not being accepted. I've now realized this pattern has been hurting me a lot, as I've been disrespecting my true self by pretending to not feel what I'm feeling. Thanks man

@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
Wow man feels... That insight is incredible though. Truly. It's a pattern so many of us have been programmed with by our society, and upbringing. Very rarely are children given the space to express themselves authentically, very rarely are children shown the type of love they need for healthy development. Not necessarily saying this was the case for you, but my guess is most of us struggle with truly expressing our who we are. Thank you for doing the work brother. An amazing resource related to this topic of healing, which goes hand in hand with meditation, is the holistic psychologist on instagram and youtube. You may find benefit from her work.

I meditate because, as you said, it helps me reach a state of flow. It clears my mind, allows me to focus and even hear my thoughts, and gives me a sense of clarity that almost nothing else can. It allows me to function in a way where my monkey mind, or subconscious mind, is not in control, but rather my conscious mind is in control, and my discipline and will-power take center stage. I realised at some point in my early 20s that for a couple of years in my life when I was a teen, I was constantly and naturally in this state, and they were the best years of my life. Being able to feel like that again is why I meditate. I also agree, like you stated, that it’s hard to put into words, especially when you’re trying to explain the feelings you get to people who don’t meditate, but what I’ve written is probably the best way I can describe it. It’s truly amazing that you’ve been doing it for a year. I’ve recently started up again, and my one piece of advice is don’t set a timer. Setting a timer does things when you meditate, subconsciously, that alters the experience. My best advice would be to just meditate, and stop when you feel like stopping. Some days it takes me 15 minutes to enter flow, others it takes me 45-50 minutes, and rarely it might even take me over an hour. So many people are obsessed with setting a timer for meditation and it doesn’t do anything except give you something else to think about. Sometimes you might have just started to enter a flow state, and then your alarm rings, and you would stop, missing out on the experience of that feeling. I think it’s best, if you are able to, to just give yourself as much time as you need to make every session count as much as possible. Other than that it sounds like you’ve got a pretty good handle on things, and I hope your life continues to improve through meditation my friend. Good job spreading the word.

I appreciate your content! In respect to anger, or any emotion. When you say to yourself or someone else "Don't be angry" or "don't get defensive", you're actually invalidating their emotional state, as well as implying that they are less, because they are in an angered state. One of the things emotions are meant for, is giving you information in how you should act. Therefore, recognizing your emotions goes a long way.
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 4 года назад
You make a very great point. Thank you for sharing this insight into emotions. You're right about the invalidation, and it can even work against ourselves as well. Feeling less than because we feel angry. Yeah I believe letting the emotion express itself fully *is* the way to go, but being mindful about how it determines our behavior is the important next step.

That's really an awesome experience. I have been meditating 1 hour everyday for last 1 month. Now I am able to concentrate on things better, became more aware of my surroundings and started living in present moment more than ever. Actually I was heavy Pot smoker when I was in my early 20's which had worsened my whole mind and life that I was always in depressed mode. Not able to connect to people, not able to form good relationship, my academics was also fucked up. Literally saying Me always thinking that I can never become good at something. I can never learn new skill in my life. But Meditation has changeg my life drastically. Now keep meditating and living my life to fullest is my new Motto. Thanks for encouraging me to meditate. 😁😇

This is so awesome to read... I'm really happy you've found so much success with meditating as well, especially being able to stick with the 1 hour per day schedule for this last month! Keep that up! Your results will continue to compound, especially with such a large amount every day :) Also, I resonate with the pot smoking. I used to be a daily smoker as well, and for awhile I was using daily even after I started meditating. But eventually I too saw how much it was hurting pretty much all areas of my life and had to give it up. I still use on occasion, but it's much more responsibly and intentional. Thank you for sharing your journey! It really helps me as well to hear about other's success's. :)

Ethan, I'm so glad to hear that meditation has worked out for you. It's been over a year since this video, how's your practice going? Consistency is the hardest thing for so many people, but I have confidence that you've stuck to it since it's had such a profound effect on you. Anger isn't my demon, at least not as much as anxiety has been. I have pretty debilitating anxiety that I've been dealing with for a number of years (I'm about your age, I'm 27), and my goal is to eliminate the unnecessary anxiety and fear that I experience on a daily basis. I've read countless stories about it helping others in the same boat, but consistency is my issue. I need to find that motivation to sit down and really chime into my existence, my being. Thanks for the video!
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
Hi Alex, thank you so much. Yes, since this video my practice has significantly deepened actually. I've been doing a minimum of 2 hours per day for the past few months or so. You're right about the consistency... I feel grateful for whatever force inside has pushed me to stay consistent. Anxiety... I seems like everyone has their own demons to deal with, whether its anxiety in your case, depression, apathy, fear, regret, or in my case anger. Sometimes these different emotions can entangle even, and its unclear which primary emotion is driving a negative emotional state. I believe with sufficient practice and introspection discernment becomes possible. I think your goal is really powerful. Honestly, the fact that you have a desire to make this a goal, the fact that you have the wisdom to see the benefits of this practice and path is truly significant. Easily 95+% of humanity either has no idea about what this path entails, or simply remains ignorant to the true benefits despite having heard about meditation. You should feel grateful, perhaps even proud that you have this foresight. And I can personally attest to the healing effects of meditation; it will without a doubt help your anxiety. In terms of consistency, I would start with something extremely manageable, so easy it's nearly impossible to miss. 10 minutes in the morning every day, setting a phone alarm if you need to. Once you start to find your groove in the consistency for 2-4 weeks, then you'll have a really strong foundation to start focusing on increasing the time. Thank you again. :)

@@ethanschaltegger Beautiful reply, thank you brother. I greatly appreciate your compliment. I'm so glad to hear that not only you've stuck to your practice, but 2+ hours a day as well! That's no joke, and the work you're putting in is paying off in countless ways, I'm sure. Let me ask you, has meditation decreased your desire for material posessions? It seems as if minimalism and meditation almost go hand in hand, but that theory is entirely based off of anecdotes I've picked up over the years, and of course, everyone is different. I tend to tell myself, as most younger people do, that 'if I just have X, I'll be happier'. I understand how irrational it sounds, and that we as humans can seek enlightenment regardless of our financial circumstances, but it's something that I have trouble shaking the idea of. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it. Subscribed, btw!
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
Thank you for subscribing! This is a really great question. It honestly deserves its own video, but I can certainly give my thoughts. What I've found is that as we progress with the practice, it's not necessarily that we become motivated by minimalism in and off itself. It's that material possessions, and just life itself becomes significantly more stimulating. So, literally less starts to become more. Not only does less start to become more, but the mind itself starts to appreciate subtly. Meditation begins refining the mind over time and its preferences start to become refined as well. When we step into a room, for example, a room that's filled with clutter, even organized and aesthetic clutter, is overwhelming. Not because we "want" minimalism, but because our perceptive experience has been refined to such a degree that the clutter starts can energetically overwhelm. It's almost how when we're drinking coffee, some sugar can be nice to enhance the flavor, but if we start overloading our drink with sugar it ruins the whole thing. Meditation starts radically sensitizing us to the "sugar" of life, if that makes any sense haha. So there are essentially two interconnected mechanisms - 1) We start to enjoy more subtle experience more than overt and extreme experience. Subtle becomes powerful. Once we start to derive pleasure from meditation, it's game over because the only way to get pleasure from meditation is by cultivating a mind which enjoys subtly. This enjoyment of subtly naturally starts to carry over into all facets of life, thus leading us to enjoy more minimal ways of living. 2) We sensitize ourselves to experience to such powerful degrees that we literally need less to become as equally stimulated and satisfied, and just like with sugar, there becomes an inflection point where too much starts to become dissatisfying. This isn't to say we can't enjoy materialism or pursue material gain. It's just that meditation helps us gain more satisfaction out of less material. Ultimate life hack. Plus we also learn that truly, happiness can be independent of condition, totally self derived. Of course that is a very radical life long path, but we begin to move in that direction. Final thought - it's interesting to notice how active the mind is with chasing and pursuing pleasure and possession, how no amount of past pleasure or possession has been enough to satiate its craving. I would *definitely* not label this as "bad" though; it just is. However, it may help clue us in to some very powerful, primordial mechanisms going on in the mind. Hope this provides some interesting direction for your own contemplation. :)

@@ethanschaltegger wow I’ve been wanting to meditate for 1 hour for a long time now. But what gets in my way is my legs go numb 15 min in the session. So my question is do you sit down cross legged and if you do what have done to stop the leg numbness.
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
@@John-nn8nf Hi Mathew great question. I do sit down cross legged now. Over time our bodies develop more physical pliancy with sitting so the numbness starts to fade overtime. You could try doing half the sit on a cushion, half in a chair. Another thing that I did in the beginning was before each sit, doing a bit of yoga, 10-15 minutes does wonders. And the last tip I can give would be to actively try developing equanimity with the numbness. Even now I still experience numbness in my sits sometimes. It comes and goes. Cultivating that acceptance, that equanimity with the experience is part of the journey, a big part really. Hope this helps :)

An hour a day is impressive! I usually do 10-30 min. If I am feeling like I keep getting distracted from presence, I'll practice up to an hour. Do you do seated or lying meditation? I have always done lying bc it is more comfortable. It is recommended to be laying down for Yoga Nidra so I have used that logic. But I know many who preach to practice seated. I notice I am more uncomfortable and frustrated when I have practiced seated but maybe this is area for growth in my meditation.
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 5 лет назад
10-30 minutes is still great! :) And especially when combined with occasional hour sessions. I do seated, but admittedly sometimes the discomfort of my body can hinder my ability to meditate. I will say though that the more you do it seated, the more the body gets used to it. Moreover, when these discomforts arise, it's a prime opportunity to practice equanimity, which is essentially acceptance of whatever arises without clinging or aversion. Same can be said when intense feelings of happiness and joy arise. Personally, I wouldn't practice seated meditation on a flat surface; it's incredibly hard on my back. Instead, I use a meditation cushion (zafu), sit on a pillow with my back supported, or I'll simply use a chair. Lying down definitely can work, but I personally get more sleepy and day dreamy when lying down.

@@ethanschaltegger thanks! I do try practice a few times per week at the least or mix it into a yoga class. I have been practicing doing guided meditations in the morning too lately.. but have noticed when I am narrating the meditation for others, it's different than an introspection personally for myself. Not as healing bc I feel like I am giving rather than doing it for self care if that makes sense. Something to work on. That's a good point, I will start to try seated with a pillow. Thanks for the suggestion! And yes, when I do it in the morning right after I wake up, I definitely have fallen back to sleep before since I am laying down but then I wake up more rested so I dont get upset over it. Lol

Since watching this video , I started meditating an hour a day and it has incredible benefits as you say. However I’ve found it increases my energy levels significantly and I’m too alert and mindful at night and have insomnia as a result. When I reduced back to 30 mins the sleep issues disappeared but don’t get the significant boost in compassion and general happiness I get from 1 hour. What do you think about this issue? Is it possible I just don’t need to sleep much anymore and that the meditating is playing a regenerative function
@user-sv2fc6mu4w
@user-sv2fc6mu4w Год назад
yes. Meditating decreases the time you need to sleep/rest cuz the amount of stress and mental pain you get in your daily life has been likely minimized because of your practice. You should also keep in mind that the idea that every human needs 8 hours of sleep is not true and that we all have different needs according to our lifestyles. I suggest you try some loving-kindess/mettā meditation before you sleep as a ritual (it will immensely increase your sleep quality) instead of decreasing the time you meditate. Taking a walk, maybe a lil bit of running in the evening may help too :)

And it has put a lot of fear into me about it. They say that it can allow demons into the mind when you meditate. Id love your thoughts.
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 2 года назад
Hi there. I can tell you I've never had demons enter my mind from meditation. In fact, meditation is THE practice that connects us to God. Not the fantasy god that mainstream religion believes in, the "God" that is at the source of existence itself, the energy that moves between the dance of life and death and breathes beauty into the world. Nirvana, emptiness, The Self, Great Love are other ways of describing this 'God' word. If anything, my experience is that meditation would ground the mind and prevent entities from manipulating it. There is nothing to fear, ultimately. Start with small amounts. 5 or 10 minutes a day following the breath is perfect. From there, let the practice blossom and grow on its own. The support will be immediate. Hope this helps.

Great video. Do you always do your 1 hour in one sit? And just standard eyes closed focus on breath? I'm 3 days in to my 1 hour a day meditation journey. Maybe it's placebo but I feel like I'm already seeing subtle changes. Also, you remind me of Matt D'Avella
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
Thank you! I'll always take a Matt D'Avella comparison haha. Typically yes. As of right now my morning sits are 1.5-2 hours but at the time of making this video, yes it was typically all in one sit. Occasionally I would split it between two 30 minute sits. Most important is getting the hour in one way or another, but I would advise to do it all in one session. Eyes open, closed, or in between. Just do whatever feels most comfortable, or interesting at that point in time. Eyes open can be amazing, because in these deeper states where the mind starts to decrease in its conceptualizing, the visual field can start to break up and things start to become fluid and spacious. "Solidity" we come to observe, is something our mind is creating. It's not necessarily inherent in what we're looking at. Do whatever feels right in the moment! As far as techniques, when I made this video I was alternating between multiple techniques in a single sit. I have a guided meditation on my channel that goes into the exact technique. But other examples could be, the first 20 minutes do breath awareness, second 20 minutes do self inquiry, the final 20 minutes do the "do nothing" technique. Breaking it up into different techniques I believe is a better approach to practice long term than adhering to 1 technique you're entire meditative path. Hope this helps. :)

I can do around 25 minutes now, but then i get an urge to stop the meditation. All the time whenever i'm about to cross the border of around 25 minutes i feel tension in my head and meditation just become unbearable. @ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
Really appreciate the support, thank you. I will definitely continue to make more videos on meditation. It's an incredibly deep field and there's a lot to talk about. Let me address your questions one at a time: 1) "how did you level up from 15 minutes of meditation to around 1 hour or so?" What I did was set a timer for 10 minutes, and then kept repeating the alarm until I reached an our. In effect, I did 6 10 minute meditations all back to back. I did 10 mins breath focus, 10 mins open awareness, and 10 mins of metta/loving kindness meditation, then repeated that cycle one more time. I found that mixing up the techniques like this helped stave off the boredom and desire to stop which was the biggest obstacle in the beginning while also each three training a different part of the mind. 2) "Can you please tell me how long does it take to get to 1 hour?" It can take as little as one day with the firm resolve to do it. You just have to find the right strategy to get there. Try out what I listed in 1). If your question is related to how long does it take to get to an hour without feeling resistance to doing an hour, without the desire to quit surfacing - well it's different person to person. I can't give a straight answer. What I will say though is that this aversion to the practice is going to ebb and flow over time. Some days an hour will be easy, you'll want to do more. The next, you may hit a wall. The key is to have equanimity/acceptance/surrender with both states and practice anyways. The first 2 years of one hour per day are the hardest, you're literally reprograming a mind that's been steeped in cultural conditioning since birth, but it does get MUCH easier and MUCH more pleasurable. And again, you'll start finding it becomes easier and easier throughout this initial 2 year phase. 3) "i feel tension in my head and meditation just become unbearable. " If it becomes too unbearable, sometimes it is indeed better to stop. A warrior knows when to stop and breathe. 4) "And should i do 2 sessions since i have time now? or is it something that is only obtained by time?" Honestly, sure why not? I don't think you have to necessarily wait to start doing 2 sessions per day. 2 sessions is going to be much healthier for your mind than spending time on social media, watching tv, playing video games and all the other high dopamine distractions our society and culture throw in our face. In fact, to get to the 1 hour mark, a really effective strategy could be to split it up into two sessions. For example, 30 mins in morning, 30 mins in evening/45 mins in morning, 15 mins in evening/20 mins in morning, 40 mins in evening. Or any other combination thereof. Overtime you'll start to increase your natural endurance to sit and sitting for 1 hour at a time will start to be an easy possibility. More important than any of the above is that you consistently sit every day, which it sounds like you're doing :). I would say the minimum is 10 minutes of formal practice per day. That's what my teacher recommends and after as much meditating as I've done thus far in my life, it feels like a good amount. I hope this helps!

I do worry about dealing with buried emotions and traumas. Cant that end up going in a bad direction if you cant handle it?
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
This is a valid concern. It can end up going badly if we don't have the proper support in place to deal with the uncovered emotions. However, my view is that there is a higher risk with not dealing with these emotions. Emotions that are left buried and ignored can manifest in extremely unhealthy ways. This can include dysfunctional behaviors, addictions of all kinds (drugs, food, sex, distraction), physical illness, autoimmune conditions, cancer, etc. There's quite a large range of possible consequence of not giving traumas and emotions the space to heal; in my (unprofessional) view, this is a much higher risk than a possible negative consequence of meditation. Remember that even if we left emotions alone by not meditating, they'll still be showing up in our lives through our behaviors and background emotional states; the way we interpret the world and 'how things really are' is largely based on our subconscious mind thus the necessity for processing emotions within the subconscious mind becomes apparent. I have a two videos on my channel going into a process called "purification" that deals with what happens when we bring mindfulness to the mind and how it can start to heal/bring up these types of emotions. Practically, if you feel you need support from what meditation can bring up I would offer two suggestions 1) Work with a meditation teacher who knows what they're talking about to find a set of techniques and/or strategies to overcome these challenges. I'd be happy to set a call up if you need help; eschalte@gmail.com is my email. 2) Work with a therapist in tandem with your meditation practice. This second point is huge; there are many meditators that would largely benefit from professional psychoanalysis or therapy.

Not exactly that simple. What meditation allows us to do is connect with our deepest desires and highest intuition though, as well as reprograming our subconscious minds by working through childhood traumas, limiting beliefs, increasing concentration, creativity, awareness, etc. Combine all of this and you have a cocktail for effortlessly taking the action needed to manifest your goals. Additionally, we may find that synchronistic events which are in line with our highest self start to spontaneously fall into place. Detachment and gratitude are the two biggest principles needed to manifest in our lives. In my experience.

"Hi Ethan, I am doing the meditation for an hour now, some days, I noticed that when I am meditating, thoughts are flowing all the time, is this normal?" Absolutely. The mind will be more or less active day to day. Over time the mind begins to settle as we gain more concentration and clarity. Learning how to ride to ebbs and flows with equanimity and peace is what it's about :) Really happy to hear you're healing. Two hours is a pretty big jump and may not be necessary right now. If it feels right, by all means go to two hours, but also know that there's a lot to be gained even with 1 hour. Is it normal to feel angry while increasing the duration of meditation or the number of sessions? I went from 30 min to 1 hour and i'm experiencing rage and anger during the day. Like for the last some days i remebered things that bothered me in the past, smaaaaall things like someone staring aggressively at me for some years ago, i don't know why i'm getting all these memories? Ideas? Tips?
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
This is completely normal. Often times as we're increasing our baseline level of awareness, we start to become more aware of the unconscious workings of our mind. Repressed, or blocked emotions can start to emerge into conscious awareness as a result. I too struggled with rage during the beginning of my practice, so I can really relate. A couple of things that can help is 1) Surrender - let these emotions surface without resistance. This doens't mean giving into them and letting them affect your behavior. This means letting the emotional energy circulate your body without you interfering. You become a super conductor for the anger. A good mindset for this is: Let it come, let it be, and let it go. 2) Contemplation/Journaling - Start investigating why your angry through questioning during your sits. "What am I really angry about? What hurt(s) me in such a way to cause these emotions?" Or as the emotions and insights arise during meditation, start journaling about these experiences. Journaling is an extremely complimentary practice to meditation that can help us process and understand our strong negative emotions that arise. 3) Patience - Ultimately, these types of events are going to happen along the path, multiple times. In fact, just today I got hit with a huge wave of depression that lasted for around 6 hours. It came out of nowhere, but because I surrendered to it and gave it the space to manifest, it's more or less exited to my emotional mind. If it's suppressed trauma, don't be afraid to seek professional help though. Meditation alone isn't always the answer. That all being said, these types of emotions are part of a mental purification that takes place during meditation practice. Overtime, your mind starts to transform itself as a result from practice, however the transformation is not always a pleasurable process. It's similar to how to grow muscles, we have to experience the physical discomfort of weight training. In the long run, the pleasurable experiences will far outweigh the negative ones. I hope this helps.

@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 2 года назад
Yes absolutely, however, and this is a huge however so please tread carefully - meditation will only work for BPD is you're also working with a trained professional. If you need medication, you MUST use the medication otherwise meditation can make BPD worse. Without proper support from a trained professional, too much meditation can exacerbate the symptoms of BPD. So while it can certainly help, it must be worked with carefully and strategically for those impacted by certain illness.

Is meditation just a pure example of the placebo effect ? I ask in all seriousness, an hour a day given to do absolutely nothing you’re going to have to think it’s absolutely worth it and make it so it is. The brain is so susceptible to time.
@ethanschaltegger
@ethanschaltegger 3 года назад
This is an interesting question for sure, but no it is not placebo. There is ample scientific evidence showing literal anatomical differences in advanced meditators vs. those who don't meditate. Additionally, there is evidence of these anatomical changes occurring in individuals who begin a meditation practice. From an experiential point of view, there are 100% differences. I've experienced massive shifts in my perceptive experience, I can generate feelings of happiness on demand, the mind no longer flies around lost in thought when I sit to practice, drugs like alcohol and weed actually make me feel less blissful than my natural sober state. When I made this video, I was regularly using weed (I live in a state where it's legal) yet now, I have stopped because the sober state is just more pleasurable, stable, and powerful for achieving goals, etc. There are too many anecdotal benefits to attribute it to a placebo. The first time you sit down for an hour straight you'll hate it. You'll more than likely experience withdrawal like symptoms from the lack of stimulation. Yet after doing this for 3 years (at the time of writing this comment, not this video) sitting down for an hour is incredible. At this point whether we call it a placebo or not loses meaning. Regardless of how we frame it, hardcore meditation facilitates a massive transformation in the way we experience life in the long run. This is confirmed from anecdotal evidence from experienced practitioners and now a growing body of scientific literature. You could commit to 6 months of practicing 1 hour per day and observe what changes (or lack there of) for yourself. The best way to know the answer to this question is to dive in and find out in your own experience. Hope this helps give some context man.

@@ethanschaltegger thanks for the answer and advice, but I am a meditator. I have been for about thirty years, I used to experience benefits when I was in my 20’s and 30’s but I don’t really now. I just ask those questions sometimes, because it makes sense, nobody asks it. It’s a time where you convince yourself that some difference is going to happen and those differences can also be found in the brain, the brain works by believing things can happen and meditation can be a springboard for that. It is what it is. Mediation for sure can help with concentration and focus, but other things can do that also and changes in the brain can be seen. I’m just saying it can be good mediation but think it’s a little overrated, changes in the brain like that can be observed in prayer for example.

@@christofinb That's definitely fair. Everyone will respond differently. I know for myself the changes have been dramatic. I feel like I'm micro-dosing on psychedelics most sits now, which I had 0 belief or idea was possible when I first began practice. But I also go extremely hard, sitting around 2 hours per day now. I think small amounts of practice (Think 10% Happier by Dan Harris) is overrated, but I believe rigorous practice 1+ hour per day is vastly underrated.
