@drh-ov7eq And of history yet to be written. I can't see how there could be a musical act, to better them. And given the drivel passed off as being music, these days, it's a safe bet.
“And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make” correct me if I’m wrong, but there has never been a better farewell track in all of pop music history, it’s literally the definition of a perfect ending
Owned a record store when it was released. Played the album over and over again in the store. I'm 83 and still believe it's the greatest and most artistic album ever recorded.
I am a staunch supporter that this was the best way for them to go out. My god, Let It Be and Abbey Road. They went out at their best and leaving fans wanting more. Had they stayed together just to appease fans and/or for the money the music could have suffered and we wouldn't have this epic legacy that all us Beatles fans cherish.
😮 I call it the Homeless Medley after witnessing a grocery store shoplifter today. More violins. Once there was a way. Carry that weight for the next 240 days and then poof. More violins.
They were just plain better than everybody else by a wide margin. There are a few other great bands, but none came close to the wild creativity exhibited by these four. It was as if you had Mozart, Beethoven and Bach in the same little quartet. A spectacle.
I dont how the Beatles did what they they did in 7 years but we are so blessed. An extraordinary catalogue of songs. This is a beautiful medley of songs. They had music oozing out of their pores. I'm 68 now and have loved them from childhood. They are game changers. Nobody - not Queen, Stones or anyone comes even close. The Beatles changed everything.
It’s been almost 10 years since my sister Janet passed away. The last song we played for her was The End. It was a beautiful sunny day in the California desert when she was laid to rest and we played the song as loud as possible so she could hear it from heaven- love and miss you always Jan 💗🥲
In 1964, my father begrudgingly - with the help of my mom - allowed me to get a Beatles haircut, but never let me wear Beatle boots. Every one of their albums, upon release, became my new favorite. My girls grew up with the Beatles and other 60s and 70s classic rock, jazz, classical, et al, but the Beatles are our favorite. 2015, I took my wife and daughters to see Paul for her 60th birthday. We had incredible seats and an unforgettable time. My oldest walked down the aisle to In My Life. They brought long-lasting joy to so many lives and generations.
Great to hear that you taught your girls great music that can be appreciated and shared. 😅 it's great when they take control of the stereo fighting over what Beatles lp to play or whose mixtape/cd to put in...have a happy day sir
John supposedly hated this medley but it always brings a smile to my face. I never get tired of listening to it. I think it's one of the best things the Beatles ever did.
@@musiccollectorJohn knew a lot. But this is very reminiscent of Paul's later works like RAM, now that I think about it. The blend of the 2 styles could have worked well throughout their lives had they held it together.
This is it. You might not get it if you are new to the band, but this is the culmination of their artistic legacy. Everything they were is in this medley. The harmony, the production, the talent each member had at their instrument..it's overwhelming.
The perfect end to the most remarkable career of the most successful band in the history of Rock and Roll. Abbey Road #1 1969 and also #1 2019 50th Anniversary Issue. The Beatles will never be topped by anyone ever as 54 years after breaking up their music will continue to appeal to new forthcoming generations. In 1963 their Manager Brian Epstein said “ in the year 2000 kids will be listening to their music.” Well it is April 18, 2024, I am 62 years old and their music is continuing to capture the intrigue and hearts of new listeners. Brian Epstein knew what he was talking about !!! Beatles Forever!!!
The Greatest Recording of All Time!!!...Simply A Masterpiece... Brings me tears of Happiness & Peace to My Soul....im 58 yrs old 🙏Thank You John Paul George & Ringo for the best soundtrack to my Life..
imagine having Mozart, Beethoven and Bach, in the same quartet; that’s what you have with the Beatles .as good as other bands were they simply could not compete with the wildly, creative, ferocious output of these freaks of nature, known as, the Beatles. As a musician I can tell you there is nothing that approaches the difficulty of writing an excellent song and these guys did it effortlessly, even the solo stuff. How lucky ,lucky ,lucky ,🎼lucky we were to grow up with miraculous music all around us.🎼🎼🎼
I disagree politely. I think they knew 50 years and well beyond we would be listening. This shit is timeless and to me blows anything out today. I waited until 50 to test deep into The Beatles, and such a reward.
I will never get tired of listening to the Beatles. I grew up with their music starting from “I saw her standing there” to “Let it be” and beyond. In my honest opinion, they are the “greatest band of all time.” 50 years from now their music will still be played on the airwaves.
Everyone alive today and alive at any point to experience the Beatles are blessed. It is those before that point that missed out. Or those who for any reason were not exposed to it but unless living in a cave I find that hard to fathom.
Afraid that's only because this has a relatively low view count. Once it gets popular, some algorithm will take notice and -woops! ads will start appearing.
What you get for nothing is usually worth what you pay for it, so pony up the dough for premium and thank me later how much is good mind food really worth anyway?
@@emau2459As an artist myself, I notice the best skill one can have is to be able to hear what is playing inside one's head (lyrics, melodies and harmonies) and to translate all of that to the “physical”. Once you learn an instrument, the translating part is not that difficult. The real work lies in learning to hear (or receive) your art. The best artists are the ones that have their channels very open, and The Beatles did it like no one else. So besides love, there is also truth - they were absolutely true to themselves. This is translated in their performances and freedom of production. Even Ringo shared this core honesty, so if the song asked him to record an extra snare or maybe only a tambourine the whole song, that's what he would do. So they treated each song as if it were its own world.
@@edu-lins Well said; thank you for your insight. To me, the Beatles almost represent the expansion of consciousness, how they kept redefining themselves and finding a deeper truth to express; and in the end, returning to where they started, just rock n roll. No other band has ever had the same effect on me, despite the amazing acts that are out there. For me, Pink Floyd is a close second, but still shy of the mark.
@@CB-xr1eg the name "the beatles" are not underrated, but there are underrated songs, same thing happens to abbey road, "abbey road" is famous, but the songs aren't
The Garden at Gethsemane, followed by carrying the cross (Boy you're gonna carry that weight a long time), followed by being nailed to the cross (drum solo), followed by dying on the cross because he Loves You, followed by it is finished (And in the end the love you make is equal to the love you take). The greatest story ever told set to rock music. Pure genius.
@@jcsgodmother That's an interesting assessment but the lyrics aren't actually referring to religion, Golden Slumbers is really referring to the play Patient Grissel by Thomas Dekker printed in England in 1603. (When Paul wrote this song, he referred to the words of Patient Grissel closely, read them and you'll see). And Patient Grissel is itself referring to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
I stand by the interpretation I wrote down. John Lennon said the Beatles were a Christian band and spent his entire life "playing the role" of Jesus. Abbey Road was the last album they recorded (Let It Be was released last because it took so long to get it in shape for release but it was recorded before Abbey Road). This medley is their effort to take everything they were working on but had not completed and put it together in a medley that summed up the Beatles . It was John wrapping up the Beatles and it makes a Christian statement. It is their final masterpiece.
@@jcsgodmother I'm afraid this song has nothing to do with your religion. As I said, the song comes from Patient Grissel (there is a poem in Patient Grissel called "Golden Slumbers", I'll add the poem in another post). And John Lennon did not believe in your god. Nor does Paul McCartney. Nor did George Harrison.
Golden slumbers fill your eyes. My mother, who has passed on now, filled my ears as a child with this great music. I'm forever grateful. Love ya mom, miss you so much.
I suspect a lot of we Boomer Mom's did this for our children. My 47 year old son was at a Beatles cover band concert last Saturday...he kept texting me, sending video clips He was so excited to share and I loved every moment as I knew how deeply he felt the music and how irrevocably it ties us together.
Not so sure any of us are in a position to judge the greatest piece of music ever recorded but that it is objective to claim this was one of the greatest bands ever at their best. And that is more then enough. Heck 50+ years ago this was recorded and so many still love it to no end. I can listen to this every few weeks and never tire of it.
Abbey Road is a beautiful LP. My girlfreind Nancy and I sat on Miami Beach Dec. 1969 (we were both 17, from Ct.) All we needed was to listen to Abbey Road. That was the best Xmas ever. For lottsa reasons..
It's like the band that invented "going viral" is still going viral. Not to mention there is a good chance John is the 1st original troll. Just research "I Am The Walrus". John knew exactly what he was doing.
When this album came out, my 17-year-old brother played it in circles. I was only 5 but was astounded. Family's all gone now, but I'm here remembering. Thank you, lads.
Youngest of 10. 63 now. 8 of us still here. When I was about, I remember yellow submarine blaring from my brother Dave's room. You still have family. People like me!😊
And to think that it was mostly made up from leftover songs that they couldn't really finish. Loads of people say this is their favourite album becuase of this medley. Whereas with a lot of other bands, their material gets weaker as they go on, and no one really likes their final abum, it's an absolute testament to them that thier final output is considered to be thier best.
An older friend of mine told me that he has proof God exists, and will send messages thru the radio to you on any specific area of concern. His proof was when he somehow survived Vietnam as a draftee (80% mortality rate in US Army in 1969), and on his way to the air field to be transferred home stateside, he prayed to hear some good music with unique meaning to his life. Upon climbing onto the plane to go home, the pilot was listening to a military radio station and when my buddy took his first step onto the plane, and he knew he was going home after 2 tours of unimaginable horrors, the opening piano chords and Pauls vocals started playing. Once there was a way, to get back home...i heard this one over 30 years ago, and still to this day when i hear this masterpiece, esp. this haunting opening verse, i still shed some tears for my buddy, i cannot comprehend the joy he was feeling that glorious day in 69 when he left Hell, and heard this for the first time...Praise God and thank you for the Beatles...
@@evanchristie9778 Dang I never realized that "boy you're gonna carry that weight" could very well be some PTSD carried on after war...makes complete sense now. McCartney is brilliant indeed...
When I was in High School n the late 60's from the Sgt Peppers album through The White Album through to Let It Be I remember the High School having a small Stereo Record Player in the Music Room. When a new album arrived dozens of students would sit in the Music Room listening to the entire album then engage in really deep conversations about the music and its meanings.......... Cant see that happening with Taylor Swift???
I agree... but without the other two... Brian Epstein and George Martin there is no way to confirm if their success would have been to the magnitude it eventually got to.
and to think that the same eccentric, opinionated, extroverted, oddball, genius, wrote it, and Because for the same album. They were all freaks of nature.
They did their best work when they were breaking up. They gave it everything they had, for old time's sake. This is a freaking masterpiece. I will ALWAYS love the Beatles
If anyone is unsure what a "ten bob note" means, it's a slang term for what was a unit of currency in England, to the value of half a pound. As with any banknote, they were often rolled up and inserted into the nose to take drugs.
The single greatest musical production ever recorded. More creativity and human emotion is wrapped up in Abbey Road than most successful artists can produce in a lifetime. And we will never see anything like it again.
I'm 76 years of age (March 26, 2024) and the Beatles were an important part of my late teen and early adult life. This album introduced me to the medley form of music where one track of music led into the next track.... I loved this format and played the 'Abby Road' album back in 1969 endlessly. Then I found 'Pink Floyd' Their music is much different than that of the Beatles but the albums seem to follow the 'Medley' format and are the kind of albums best suited for head phones and disc player I love both bands. I listen to the Beatles when I need the quick and dirty.... I listen to the Floyd when I want to kick back, put on the head phones and escape.
If you ask me, i'ved admire so much Beatles specialy this album, Abby Road its the most beautiful beautiful album of the group.. say yes if do you agree..
I am assuming my dad will go first and he committed me to playing every version of "Knocking on Heavens Door" from Dylan to Guns and Roses to Clapton during his burial and I assued him that will be the case. My request is much simpler. Abbey Road Medley.
Every sound ever produced by a human being led to this. The greatest virtues of mankind condensed in 16 minutes. This is one the things that makes every bad thing we've done worth it.
Cowboy Bebop. Yep, I carry it. The moment the words "boy, you're gonna carry that weight" were spoken, everything came back. If you don't know what I'm talking about do yourself a giant favor and just watch the series. Don't Google it.
You can't take anything away from George Martin. Before him The Beatles were playing mostly covers in dive bars for beer money. However it was Epstein that got them to George Martin. So there is that...
@@CB-xr1eg Paul and George Martin putting it together is the ONLY reason I believe John was critical of it. But here nor there his best studio work is on it as well for all of eternity to admire.
I don't know about anyone else, but at my age of 63 listening to the Beatles brings tears to my eyes. It's not just the absolutely beautiful music but also the memories of what you were doing when this album came to the record store in Fayetteville NY. Wow.....excuse me, I need a tissue....
We all feel the same ! The Beatles transcended place and time . I honestly do believe that they were ( unknown to them ) chosen as the medium through which the Music was given to us.
I am a grown ass man. Hardly anything can make me cry. But some of these Beatles songs that bring back the innocence of my youth as well as the early years of my parents... heck yeah I am going to cry. Healthiest cries ever.
We Beatlemaniacs have the same perception of what these music of the Beatles brought to our lives. We’re lucky to have heard and witnessed the musical geniuses of the Beatles. Nobody can ever replace them. And in the end, the love you gave is equal to the love you make. Classic.
The name Scott represents The Secret Code Of Time Travel. The code is 5 minutes too, 5 minutes after, each end of the cross. Whenever you LEAVE or ARRIVE it will always Match, Watch.
Yeh Paul, could play! Nearly invented Pop playing. See ABBA’s session guys

In an eternal league of their own. I feel blessed i saw them in their first Ed Sullivan Show (64) at 10 and grew with them and spent my life as a following devoted fan to them and their music. The luckiest decade to have lived
I was born in 1959, dancing and singing in the basement to Beatles music from early on. So much so, at 5 years of age in ‘64, my Mom bought tickets to see the Beatles at Red Rocks in Colorado on their first tour. I experienced Beatlesmania first hand. All these years later, still my greatest memory. The Beatles… Gods gift to music!
@@lawrenceoctaviuskeet3212Mostly, because unbelievably the show wasn’t sold out. But it was my first experience hearing all those girls screaming! Still, an amazing memory for such a young age.
I was born in '59 also.. we watched Ed Sullivan or Bonanza ( my pop).. my folks said I would not stop crying unless we watched beatles, my dad wanted Bonanza..but gave up because I was relentless.. I watched and the world turned from Black and white to Color forever!.. thanks John,Paul,George and Ringo..❤
Maxime PEATAUTON Je célèbre ton bon goût pour de bonnes choses!!! Et que tu aies téléchargé ce medley complet et dans le bon ordre, autrement c'est impossible de l'écouter. Merci, merci, merci. From Argentina with Love.
An amazing band. Another astounding thing, to me, is that their music never seems to get played out for me. Been listening to them for decades, and it still sounds just...great. No one else compares. This...their swan song. Just...bits and scraps of songs, is the greatest good-bye any band could ever have come up with. Listening to it somehow makes me sad every time I hear it, because there would be no more new albums, as "Let it be" was recorded before this. This is an incredible piece of music.
@@musiccollector It's nice to know you were alive when this came out. What a gift. It's like being the only person still alive when the pyramids were built. I saw an interview where Paul was asked basically "Do you understand what effect you had on so many people's lives" and he said "Yes" Just wow. Again, talk about gifts.
What makes this medley so much more amazing is it is actually made up of a colleciton of partially-completed songs. It was Paul McCartney who suggested stringing the bits together and rumor has it that at first John Lennon was against the idea. That may not be true as people who were there as these bits were worked say Lennon had a fun time with the project. The fragments were recorded inndividually or two at a time and then strung together more than one way before the final product emerged, and what a wonderful product it was!
I'm 71 and LOVE THE BEATLES sent to see them in AUSTRALIA when I was younger. Never be another band to COMPARE and i mean NEVER. Remember MORE POPULAR THAN CHRIST
No other band combined their personal influences (ragtime, British vaudeville, American blues, classical, and just sheer creativity/genius for turning phrases) like they did. They literally re-shaped ALL of western culture. No OTHER band can EVER say that.
As a lifelong admirer of the group, ( I bought their album Meet the Beatles in 1963 and saw them live in Toronto in 1965 and '66, ) I always regarded Abbey Road as a farewell to fans. Harrison's excellent songs, Lennon's provocative lyrics and the patchwork medley all combined to give a huge hug to us all. Harrison said, The Beatles will exist without us. " 60 years later and he's proven right.
If anybody ever says "The Beatles were great lyricists, but only average musicians" make them listen to this. Repeatedly. There is nothing about this that isn't utterly brilliant.
They were always commenting on how some didn’t like some part here and there, etc. I just can’t help but wonder if they really knew that WE LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!! There will never be another band that created such history. ❤
Once they stopped touring and no longer were trying to reproduce their songs on stage they could produce the studio music for which they have become famous. An ordinary, unambitious band would have continued to churn out boy-meets-girl music which could be repeated endlessly on stage. Undoubtedly the competition between John & Paul spurred them on to write better and better songs and collaboration between the two added to their ability to write great songs.
When they get to Golden Slumbers, I get a feeling of sadness. What once was, is now gone, but wouldn't be nice to be there again. You can never go home~~~ Such a great medley!
Well, I still visit my parents, there is still my room (that I later shared with my sister), but you're right, it's different, I have my own life and do not live there anymore. At least the memories remain.
I don't want to divulge my exact year of birth but I can say my mom raised me on Beatles music. She would sit me in front of the "console" as we called it back then and teach me how to read from The Beatles album covers and books. Little did she know this would encourage me to be a musician rather then a reader. All good no regrets.
1960, but this was my mother’s music. It’s embedded in my heart, soul & brain. She recently passed away & ever since I have awakened to having one or another Beatles jam in my head. ❤
