They are really fascinating and beautiful and yes very tiny. I use 4 neodymium magnets attached to a piece of still screwed into a long stick. I hold it just above the ground and sweep it back and forth. I use a led screen microscope (under 100 dollars on Ebay). You never know where you'll find them but their out there. Happy hunting.
is there a minimum building height you look for? i can imagine anything under a few stories would get quite contaminated with terrestrial material, no? as well how old? would newer buildings be more subject to finding man made lookalikes and how about re-roofed buildings? when was the last time a buildings roof had maintenance done on it to not be worth checking out? and one last question, how often do you come across any real false positives, one that you were convinced was a meteorite but was not
