At the end of each season every dog has to get thrown into a wood chipper. They actually throw a ball in there and the dog runs right in itself. A pretty poetic ending if you ask me.

Greyhounds are much faster then whippets again. They make any other dog look slow in comparison and over a short distance they’re faster then race horses

All greyhounds are naturally "doped" compared any other dog: no fat, bigger muscles (related to their weight) , bigger lungs, bigger heart, more hemoglobin in the blood. You should see how a small italian greyhound follows playing and running like a crazy while the other dogs stop with the tongue outside. Any owner of Greyhounds, knows that they are "different"

The whippets are adored and cared for. The Spaniards abuse the Galgo or Spanish greyhound even discarding them in the wild or sent to killing stations after each year's race. Get on them. There is a rescue organization for them but it's not nearly big enough.

Whippets are also notoriously known for having a good dose of A.D.D. Even in this video you see one of the whippets forget they are carrying a ball and drop it before finishing the race. Super short attention spans. In other words: Very fast in the feet, a little slow in the head. Too many whippets on the team means too many chances for 3 Stooges moments, and it only takes one of those moments to lose the race (no matter how much faster the whippets are), and possibly be eliminated from the competition.

And to be frank, the announcer was being a bit kind, and didn't want to say bluntly "what a shame, the cute, fast, short attention span whippet was in such a hurry that it temporarily forgot it was carrying the ball." If you are throwing around insults at me because you think I'm attacking the whippet breed, or that particular whippet personally, you need to get a grip on yourself, and reality: Whippets are a fine breed, good companion dogs who get along great with other dogs, and can make good pets for the right owner. It's just that whippets score pretty high on the excitability scale when compared to other breeds, and low on the attention span scale when compared to other breeds. These are facts, well known, and acknowledged by reputable breeders, just like the facts that border collies make good sheep herders, and that great danes are freakish big for dogs. The owners of these particular competition whippets have done a great job of training them, and when the whippets on the team stay focused, they win every round. However, when just one of their whippets gets distracted for even a moment, they lose the round. The whippets are the reason they win, but the whippets are also the reason they occasionally lose. Notice that, in spite of having the best speed and fastest overall dogs by FAR in the competition, the team with the 2 whippets did NOT make the finals, pretty much proving my point.

He is 110% correct. Whippets aren't easy to train for this kind of sport BECAUSE they do lose focus. They naturally chase, NOT retrieve. Anyone who owns Whippets knows they love to chase a ball, rarely bring it back.

Sighthounds in general are hard to train, they're independent thinkers and not eager to please. Border collies on the other hand are overrepresented in sports because they are easily trained and strongly motivated. That's why it's not all whippets, if you manage to train one though you hit the jackpot.

Have you ever been trapped to a rocket of two whippets and a saluki when they see an escaping bunny? They are marvelous dogs. Such a nice mellow character (except the saluki's exceptionalism)...except when they see prey. The challenge for the dog walker is being a better hunter than dogs, because those springs of feet have a lot of power despite looking like angel feet. That's why it's a bit unfair to bring whippets to these races. They are the Usain Bolt of dog breeds.
