To clear up the confusion, this is the voice that often gets mistaken for a guy called Oswald Lawrence - including by Oswald’s widow in a story that is often repeated on social media. The voice heard today at Embankment erroneously attributed to Oswald is in fact Peter Lodge seen here, as confirmed by several members of his family over the years. (it sounds different with him speaking it as this news report was recorded about 20 years after he first did the announcement)

It’s Peter. The “actor” mentioned at 0:08 in this report is Oswald, basically they never used Oswald’s voice and his widow (and possibly Oswald himself) never realised.

@cameronyoungcg9270
@cameronyoungcg9270 2 года назад
Starting in the 90s, the trains themselves have an alarm (the rapid beeping noise) which sounds before the doors close. The announcement, therefore, is redundant.

It looks that way, because it wasn't a crowded period. The same as many times of day today. Only today there are bigger trains, longer trains, more space effective trains and more frequent trains. London is famed for being a crowded city right from its creation. In fact, the Victorians documented it's overcrowding in great detail.
