Fascinating artist - the psychological theme, the wood background... so intriguing and powerful.

What a delightful and interesting person is Lorena Levi. When she started talking about the artists that inspire her, before she even said it, I said "Paula Rego", hah! I really love that Lorena speaks of thinking of concepts in series. I have always said that if I'm not working in series then the idea is probably not strong enough to produce my best work. What Lorena is exploring in her work is really difficult to do. She is creating narrative portraits that build on her influences in a new and exciting way. It's very difficult to make work where the background is left largely empty and yet have that contribute to the narrative. What she is doing is not simply a matter of putting negative space to work. Somehow, the subjects and the parts of the inanimate space that are iterated make the negative spaces vibrate. Well done, Lorena. I'm excited to see where your work goes over the next few decades.
