I know that most of the people here won't bother to read this knowledge oriented comment but this is for the people those who are raising their eyebrows with the topic-'why his father is speaking in bengali?'. Let me answer: The interviewer or the journalist must be non manipuri, and this documentary is not solely for Manipur state, but it is also for the other non-local viewers. Prolly, his father couldn't speak hindi therefore he tried to communicate in bengali since this was the only another Indian language which he could speak. Now, the another question, "How could he speak bengali and not hindi?" well, there is a bit of link between Manipuris and bengalis in the history of Manipur. Not going deep in the history, but in short, during the kingship in Manipur, bengali script and the language flourished with the arrival of bengalis in manipur back then. Eversince, bengali language and script are widely being used among manipuris. Important note: We manipuris have our own language and script. Language is called 'meiteilon' and albhabets are called 'meitei mayek'. Most meiteis are hindu because of the conversion in the history centuries ago. We have our own religion called "Sanamahi" or "Sanamahism".

I met this beautiful soul when i was doin my bsc in manipur and he was such a cool person, so humble and we love his music, he is what a an example of what a homegrown artist ought to be. Hope to see your performance soon Tamo, do know that your songs are always played oftenly. Stay blessed bro 🙏🙏

I'm a Manipuri living in Manipur and I have never heard of Gems Chongtham until I saw this video. This guy obviously has some fan following but Vice really needs some homework to do about Manipuri artists on RU-vid before declaring anyone as a "sensation."

It's not only Gem even there are many artists in the Northeast states which their music channel has reached around 2 m😊 but I'm really proud for him as well

I'm from Manipur, Northeast India. Back in 2003, I went to JNV Rajgir in Bihar as a student exchange. They were shocked seeing how low our trousers were. That time, most mainland Indians wore their pants almost upto their belly button! NE India is way ahead in this game and rappers were famous in Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram since the early 00s.
