This was one of my favorite shows when it was broadcast. Lovejoy seemed to play a villain fairly often in early TV and radio shows. I think McGraw was almost the ideal role for him.
This was on TV when I was about 4 years old. My troll brother told me his first name was Meat(ball) McGraw, and I believed him, and now 64 years later..........! My brother is now 70 and still a troll. McGraw now has an old/new fan. Thanks so much for the series!
We old timers have to stick together ! Why , I'm just the type that saved my lunch money in order to buy a ticket for just this kind of story only to be told it would be on TV instead !!!! Money saved!!! Now all I do is follow Pizza Flix and whadyha know my favs are right there ! Appreciate the memories 🍕 Flix ! CARRY OUT. ...&....CARRY ON ! !
What a nifty group. Audrey Totter worked for years in tv and film. Ellen Corby after quite a number of movies, would settle in as endearing Grandma Walton. And Paul Picerni was a regular in Eliot Ness's Untouchables, (with Robert Stack). I am loving this Mc Graw series!!
Lovejoy had a great screen presence, esp. when doing those firm-but-compassionate "colonel" parts that he was tailor-made for: he was yet another of the very many U.S. screen-actors who died prematurely.
How many top actors in there?!!😃 SEVEN?!! I never can remember their showbiz names but there was the hotel clerk, the maid, the lead lady, the leiutenant cop, freddie, gus, and Frank lovejoy!! Thanks for the upload!! 🙏
This would turn into a TV series in the 57-58 TV season on NBC. Strangely, though Four Star produced this piece here, the series would come from Desilu.
"Meet McGraw" TV series (aka The Adventures of McGraw) was broadcast in 1957, this episode was originally broadcast on 2/25/1954, along with a second "The Long Count" on 3/25/1954.
Frank Lovejoy was one of my very first movie crushes. I though I'd watched everything he was in....not this one. Thank you for uploading this wonderful tribute to a magnificent actor....Frank Lovejoy!! BTW....I was only 10 yrs old. My crush was between Lovely & Jeff Chandler (Broken Arrow).
Ok 👌Lila, I promise I won’t forget McGraw. He rubbed off on me when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I’m 78 years old now and I still love 💕 Frank Lovejoy as he was in the Meet McGraw tv 📺 series. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Interesting! Lila was certainly a conniving woman! Frank Lovejoy, always great, and always nice to see Ellen Corby! But the face I kept being drawn to was Freddie (Paul Picerni). He resembles someone else, but I'm not certain who. Or, perhaps he made many other shows/movies? I think I'll go google him! Thanks! 🌈🌈🌈
OK, I googled him. No wonder his face was frozen in my mind. 63 movies and 455 television shows?? And now, besides his brother Charles, it seems half his family is involved in show business. It's really also wonderful to find out what a happy marriage he had, and so many children! He accomplished so much even before becoming a star. A brilliant human being! More than worth the time to "google" him! 🌈🌈🌈
Originally telecast on "FOUR STAR PLAYHOUSE" on February 25, 1954. This was Don Sharpe and Warren Lewis' first attempt to sell a detective series starring Frank Lovejoy as "McGraw". They finally did- to Procter & Gamble and NBC in the spring of 1957. It lasted a little over a season.
Don't forget the inflation-factor: "7 bucks" used to be a lot of money back then, before runaway inflation came in as a cute way of keeping the "little people" running to stand still.
