Poonam, your mom is so adorable and reminds of the mothers in Rajasthan. Even after living in Italy for so many years she has not changed much I feel, she has maintained our Indian tradtions. Like the traditional Rajasthani mom she cooked dal-bati, choorma and gatte ki sabzi to welcome her daughter. I also admire how you and your family speak Hindi ( and Marwari, which is unfortunately fading in many Rajasthani homes in Rajasthan itself). Please pass on my regards to your mother for preserving the Indian culture and for raising her kids so well. Enjoy your time with your family on a much needed and a much deserved break. Actually the people who live abrod keep the culture and tradition preserve than people who live in India itself. As they want to feel they are still home while living in abroad. But it's exactly opposite for the people who are living in India.

However after having lived in the USA for more than two decades and seeing how families raise their children I realized that most people these days are giving up their mother tongue and have instead adapted English as their primary language. Even the mothers who were raised in India suddenly assume a different identity when they come to the US. In case of Poonam who spent her childhood in Italy, it is highly commendable that she can speak Hindi and Marwari along with Italian, French , English and Korean.
