Ruben Pardo has been a professional elevator operator for 40 years. At 75, he's the oldest one in Los Angeles. He learned how to operate elevators from the "old-timers" and still remembers going to the movie theater to watch other "old-timers" like Humphrey Bogart and Gregory Peck. In this short documentary by Dress Code, Pardo reminds us of the simple joys in life and lets us know that he's "on the first floor" and "the doors are always open!"

"How's your day been?" "Up and down" I wonder how many times he's told that joke in the last 40 yrs?

I love the fact that the building doesn't want to upgrade the elevator (yet), so that this good sir right here gets to continue working. His presence sure does add to the charm of this old complex.

I am from Texas, and I have been blessed to grow up on the East Coast for part of my childhood and that was one of the most beautiful memories I had was being able to ride an elevator is operated by elevator operators. They would be dressed so grandly in their suits/uniforms and hats. They dressed in suits like ship captains, or pilots. Very grand indeed!

I hope they keep this hand operated elevator going. I lived in a building that had one of these elevators as a child, I think it's gone now. I wonder how many of these are left? Thank you Ruben Pardo for keeping this history alive.

Super grateful and appreciative to say that operating an actual old school elevator is my job right now. (2022) One day I will be touring the globe singing my original music, and will come back to this video to reminisce on how far ive come. Im also going to make a day in the life video that you soon to be fans will see when I make it. Thank you God for allowing me to have a great 9pm-5pm until its my time. 🙏❤️🛗

Maybe it seems obvious for many people but I am not sure about that. I'm Nelly operator = I'm an elevator operator? I am asking that because I will need to explain this video to someone:)

Automated elevators are generally considered to be better than manual elevators in terms of safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Safety: Automated elevators are less likely to have accidents than manual elevators. This is because they are not operated by humans, who can make mistakes. Automated elevators also have safety features that prevent them from being overloaded or from moving if there is an obstruction in the way. Efficiency: Automated elevators are more efficient than manual elevators. This is because they can operate 24/7 without the need for a human operator. They can also be programmed to move to the most frequently used floors, which can save time and energy. Cost-effectiveness: Automated elevators are more cost-effective than manual elevators in the long run. This is because they require less maintenance and repairs. They also have a longer lifespan than manual elevators. However, there are some potential drawbacks to automated elevators. For example, they can be more expensive to install than manual elevators. They can also be more difficult to troubleshoot if they malfunction. Manual elevators are still used in some buildings, such as historic buildings or buildings with limited space. However, they are becoming increasingly rare as automated elevators become more affordable and reliable. Ultimately, the best type of elevator for a particular building will depend on a number of factors, including the size of the building, the number of floors, the budget, and the desired level of safety and efficiency.
