Congrats guys…. As a Bus Operator myself for eight years we do have many challenges on the road but don’t let it discourage you. Don’t allow anyone to discourage you either. You guys now hold a Medellin to a great future for yourself and family. The pandemic is unfortunate for all but protect yourself and come help move New York.

How can I join? I have my CDL and have experience driving city buses.

Retired Bus Operator here. 30 years operating in Manhattan & The Bronx. Retired from Quill Depot in Manhattan. Familiarize yourselves with the "Weingarten rights" as they are very important. Never, ever submit to an interview with a member of supervision unless a Union Rep is present. You have that right. A supervisor begins to question you, you may request that a Union rep be present and the questioning must stop until the rep is present. You must state your payroll number and run and route. Nothing else. There is one trick that management will use against you: You are involved in an accident and you decide to speak about the accident to a supervisor who arrives on scene. You tell him what happened. He will write it down, word for word. He then asks you to read it and sign. Well guess what? that report never reaches the Boss's desk. Instead, the supervisor will write his own version of what he believes happened and it may not be favorable to you and you may be subjected to discipline. Simply utilize your Weingarten rights and decline to discuss it with the supervisor. After completing your run, complete your report at the depot and hand it to the Crew Dispatcher with instructions to forward it to the Location Chief. That way, the boss has your version only. (The Union does not advise the workers of their Weingarten rights for reasons which are unclear).

Driver's and bikers are more inclined to yield to the bus if they see a turn signal flashing. Use of turn signals are NOT optional.
