On the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, NewsNation is honoring Rick Rescorla, a Vietnam veteran who saved thousands of lives after a plane crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. This man was from Cornwall in the UK where I am from and my school asked students for people to honour as the names of our school houses, and after some research people found out about this man, and so one of the 4 houses at my college was named Rescorla

I love hearing this. Rick Rescorla was an absolute legend in Vietnam. One of US greatest Warriors ever even if he wasn’t born in the USA. Please watch on RU-vid US 7th Cavalry honor Rick with a life size statue of him that stands to this day at one US’s Army training grounds.

He was a war veteran. I don't know what he'd seen in combat, but he knew from experience an attack was likely. Just hearing those NY accents makes me homesick. Moved to the Midwest in '98, and was burning up the phone lines for weeks afterwards.

Amidst the tragedy and pain, there was this really moving scene. Several days after the attacks; the responders and construction workers who were removing and clearing the rubble; they were doing it with such a regard and consideration for the potential undiscovered victims. Even the people who were operating the big and heavy excavator were using such caution and sensitivity. I got some filmmaking/acting experience and I swear, they deserve a tribute, especially since many of them suffered and died of cancer and other related illnesses.

How can they live with themselves, knowing that they were told about what was going to happen, and said "I know better, I'm more intelligent than the rest of you. That man was a hero before 9/11, he was a hero of the Battle of IA Drang during the Vietnam War. Because of Col. Rescorla several Vietnam Vets made it home, and many, many more people survived the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

What a hero. Truly for standing by his instincts and sticking with his drills and then selflessly going back in to make sure 100% of MS employees were out of the building. I am so sorry for his wife, but I hope hearing how much he helped others helps just a little. 😢❤ We need more selfless, people of real conviction.

Rick Rescorla served under Lt Gen Moore in battle of Ia drang Valley. Man survives vietnam war only to die in 9/11. Life can be a crazy thing.

I read We Were Soldiers Once and Young in the 90s when I was a teenager. It was a bestselling book at the time and one of the best war books I ever read. Of course, I had no idea that the man on the cover would go on to be a 9/11 hero. The book cover was one of the best war photos I ever saw and it looked like it was straight out of WW2. Here's a man that was present for two historical events that were turned into movies. He without question, died a soldier on 9/11 and we will never forget him.

Morgan Stanley had a long lease on their office space in the Towers. In fact, they were one of the biggest tenants. Not so easy to find office space in NYC for that many employees.
