But suffered massive casualities and losses in armament, withdrew from north Ukraine and THREE months on it still was not to conquer whole Lugansk and Donetsk. UA is after all much, much smaller country without income from the west that Russia gets(hundreds of billions of EURs for oil and gas). Nobody has expected russian military to be such a joke. They were turned away because of their language. Ukrainian foreign legion probably wants people who can speak Ukrainian, English, and other substantial common languages that they can easily form into cohesive battalions where everyone can communicate.

great comments here, thanks for posting. I might add corruption in Ukraine has been under assault since the fall of the Soviet Union. It's a tricky situation bringing together various units. I am not saying there is corruption in this unit. However there were top people in UA that ' allowed ' RA to enter from Crimea more easily. Getting free from soviet / ruzzian corruption lifestyle is a long and difficult process. This historical background is part of the hesitation for NATO and the EU membership application. Glory to all these fighters who volunteered, there is no greater calling in eastern Europe today. They are fighting a battle we should have fought a long time ago.
