As a parent I’m on the fence on this. I'm striving to instill mutual trust with my kids. Daily emphasis on open dialogue, self-awareness, life and emotional intelligence. This phone kinda seems like the opposite of that?? My kids are only 9 and 6 and if they’re not with me or my husband they’re at school. Why does a child need a phone under 15?

Actually Apple, Verizon failed us. I’ve spend so many hours trying to protect my kids from themselves on iPhone, using Verizon parental controls. Complete failures. Drugs and Sex, sending nude images and videos, now in the hands of creeps and stupid teenage boys, which if you look into the risk of suicide & sex trafficking your daughter puts herself in for stupid errors like this it should alarm you. They install VPN’s, they have workarounds, they jailbreak their iPhone, of course kids lie, of course they do. Because they have friends whose parents are cool, who totally trust their kids, who have phones will full access. The entire culture treats us parents, especially those cool parents, like controlling POS. Our kids of course like laid back parents who are smoking dope, drinking, and not giving a crap. Yet suicide risk and sex trafficking are real risks, and the risk significantly increased from these damn phones and decisions a 14 y/o will make that will haunt a 30 y/o. Simply put, as I tell my daughters all the time. Your a creature of time, I know you hate me, but I’m looking out for 30 y/o you, the career professional, the woman who doesn’t want to be haunted by her teenage years. So sorry not sorry, I’m on 30 y/o you’s side.

I'm trying to figure out what standard features are available on the phone with the starter plan and can't find any info. My son currently has a Gabb phone and it only has talk and text, but it also has other apps available like weather, notes, voice recorder, calculator, etc. How do I know what's already available standard on the phone with the talk/text only plan? The website doesn't say anything about it.

Im a teenager who has this phone. I would suspect this is for smaller children because with what it detects as "concerning". For example, I listen to a song called "Idiot Box!" (A kid friendly song by a kid friendly band) On RU-vid and spotify and Bark detects this as bullying. I watch a FNAF video that Markiplier made and its detected as violent. I have to be extremely careful with what I type because everything seems to be violent and my poor little eyes shouldn't be seeing such adult content. Bark needs to update what their bots see as adult content because with what it sees right now as adult content, it's a breach of privacy. I never would've expected to have labelled my parents as helicopter parents but this seals the deal. Bark, update what you think is adult content, im not 4 years old.

This is pretty awesome. These days every kid has a phone, and I understand the need for it. I got a phone as a kid but there were no parental controls and I and other kids my age were exposed to so many inappropriate things, so I'm definitely getting this phone for my kids, if I ever have any. Not to be a helicopter parent, but to just keep them safe online and make sure they aren't being a bully to other people.

I have a Gabb phone and it sucks so much! I want to ask my mom for this phone cause I can get more apps! I think this is perfect for my mom cause she doesn't want me to have every social media platform in my hand without parental controls.....and gabb phones don't have google(or anything like it) for searching stuff and I want to be able to without my mom worrying or having to go through my search history.......
We love bark, it has been so helpful for our family we have it on our 11 year olds phone and its wonderful! It protects her from online dangers, stops her from seeing innapropriate content, and helps us feel better about her being safe online. Recently she disabled it and my husband and me both got notifications very quick and went to our daughter immediately, we found out that she wanted to watch south park and family guy epidodes aswell as movies like smile the boogeyeman and ted, nope! Luckily we got their before she could see anything innapropriate. Im so grateful to bark for protecting our little girl from online dangers and protecting her innocence from inappropriate content we love bark!❤

Dont get me wrong she is going to be protected online and she will not be watching anything innapropriate period! Hi Amanda! Parents can also allow/block texting at anytime. Please note that during Pause on the Bark Phone, dialer permissions will still be allowed on the device, since we didn't intend to ever put a device in a position where emergency services might not be able to be reached with the phone. 💙

I hope you immature kids don't ever have kids yourselves. Some of us parents use this to help their child. How would you feel if you find out that your kid's friend is now throwing nasty comments at them like "You're worthless, just go kill yourself"? Kids when they feel scared or cornered might not ask for help especially younger children. If you just let that go on, you might not have your child tomorrow so you all just don't understand that not ALL parents are helicopter parents. Some just want to help when they're really in a dark place because we love them. smh

@@chikanenomiko4683 That doesn't prove anything, because without me knowing the reasons which caused what you describe, which I obviously shouldn't know, I can't make any change to my opinions. The sole correlation I unfortunately have relevantly observed is that overbearing parents usually create emotionally unstable children. That was certainly my experience with mine. Certainly, ending your response with such a crude insult doesn't provide much confidence in your ability to remain calm during difficulty. Still, better than you ignoring her problems, eh?

I only said that because I felt attacked and thought you were saying I should just leave my 10 year old alone when she's dealing with someone so awful. I assure you, that I do not helicopter. We play games together, she has a switch that has some (definitely not strict) limits. I let her play app games with her friends, I never butt in to her conversations and theres even neat features where you can literally whitelist people you absolutely trust so Bark never listens in on their conversations.

Not true it’s not an invasion of privacy because it only alerts you to inappropriate things. I can’t see every text my daughter sends or anything like that unless it’s inappropriate like suicide, drugs sex, etc
Privacy is a luxury, not a right. Children do not get the luxury of privacy, primarily online. Furthermore, this is a form of protection, not an invasion of privacy.
