Pastor T. L. Barrett, a Pentecostal preacher on Chicago's South Side, wrote and recorded soul-infused gospel music in the 1970s with his youth choir.
40 years later, his music is reaching a new generation of listeners through productions by Kanye West, DJ Kahled and major ad campaigns.
On Sunday, the 76-year-old pastor opened his church to play music and preach indoors for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Amazing. We really need to honor and recognize gospel musicians more. They have been samples for decades and almost no one speaks of them or knows the samples

The 2016 commercial turned me on to Rev. Barrett’s music. I can’t believe I never heard of him before then . I put a Musixmatch check on the song and found the artist and it lead me to this. Since then I’ve heard two more of his songs on commercials the latest being “I Shall Wear a Crown”. I also love his version of “Pass Me Not “. My church choir sings that a lot but totally different from his version. So I added his music to my gospel playlist he has some really good music!

Yes it is. I wonder who was his band? I love the composition and the instrument playing on “Nobody Knows” especially the piano,bass and drums. And the horn section ain’t no joke either! “I shall wear a crown “ reminds me of some old James Brown music!
