Thank you! They're currently in chicken lockdown due to avian influenza passing through the UK. I can't wait to be able to let them freerange again.

Cold, wet, wintery...yep, my garden looks a mess because I would rather not be out too, got about half of it weeded for spring, but boy it's getting late and I'm in desperate need of a nice few days to finish it and get some compost down for the spring plant/transplant

We have buff and lavender Orpington, Welsummer, delaware, Ameracauna, cuckoo maran, and bronze laced Wyandotte - just for the beauty of the breeds.

We've got a mixed flock too. Last years group was Rhode Island Reds and Barred Plymouth Rock. This year we decided to add more Rocks and also added Buff Orpington and Sapphire Gems. We even received a Mystery Girl that we don't know what she is. Maybe you can look at one of our videos and let us know. Great video! Cheers!

@@elegantsufficiency2866 She is only five weeks old. Another couple months to go. I'm imagining it'll be easier when she gets older. She is just a gorgeous little gal!

Where on earth did you get that super awesome plastic chicken coop??
@elegantsufficiency2866
@elegantsufficiency2866 3 года назад
It's an Omlet Eglu Cube (Mark 1). We bought it second hand and it's in great condition. They are so easy to clean with a pressure washer. We keep 8 large breed chickens but it could hold 10. They're quite pricey, even the second hand market has increased in the last year or so, but a worthwhile investment. We've never had red mite but I'm confident that if we did it would be easy to dismantle the coop and deal with it. (I promise I don't have shares in Omlet 😂)

How do keep them warm during a snowy winter months?
@elegantsufficiency2866
@elegantsufficiency2866 3 года назад
We tend to have fairly mild winters here but mostly they keep themselves warm. It's more important to have good ventilation than heat in the coop.

Rosie is a Wheaten Maran. Big lady, dark brown eggs (not that she lays much anymore, since a prolapse incident.

Do you cut your silkie’s hair because I have a bearded white one, and you can’t see her face or eyes. I figure if you can’t see her, she can’t see you. Yours look so trim and she can see.
@elegantsufficiency2866
@elegantsufficiency2866 3 года назад
As far as I'm aware there are three different standards of Silkie, although they are all still the same breed. I think mine conform to the European standard, whereas the US standard have much more of a fluffy pompom head with restricted vision. I suppose you could trim the feathers if it is hindering her.
