When a little child named Samuel was two days old, his birth mother dropped him off at a fire station in Louisville, Kentucky. Now nearly 21 moths old, Samuel is with his forever family, including parents Brittany and Christopher Tyler and brothers Judah and Calvin. The family of five joins TODAY live in Studio 1A to open up about their journey and the joy Samuel brings to them.

I'm just going to send my own personal love and admiration out to the bio mom that was capable of acknowledging she could not take care of a child, but had him anyways, and left him lovingly in the right place, legally, with a note and wrapped in a blanket. She loves that baby, and to give up a child because you are aware enough to know you can only survive while wanting your baby to thrive is heroic IMO.

For Samuel's birth mom to think "I can't do this, my baby deserves better," much respect. Rather than doing anything bad to the baby, she knew he needed help and left him at the fire station. Bless this couple for welcoming "Hammy Sammy" lol into their family and hearts. :)

I agree - I'm an adoptive parent through foster care and like *many* former foster youth and adoptees, I believe that relinquishment should be a last resort and is *OFTEN, NOT ALWAYS* a permanent solution to a temporary problem that has potentially lifelong ramifications for birth parent/s and child. In an ideal world, the birth mom would have health, educational, mental and financial support during pregnancy and even for a period after birth. Absent that, engaging extended family or kin to preserve family. Only after all of those options are exhausted should this occur. The world is not ideal, and there are of course situations for which immediate relinquishment is optimal. But I feel for birth mom making such a big decision when desperate or under duress, especially if there were alternatives.

Awesome and wonderful to hear of the mother who knew for whatever reason she couldn't or didn't want to mother her child, so instead of killing him or throwing him in a trash dump, she gave him life twice. Thank God for the fire department and the family adopted him♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

I think it’s beautiful when adoptive parents share with birth parents information and photos and updates. When it comes time to meet his birth mother he won’t have to search for decades and possibly never know her. I hope to see the reunion video in 20 years I know I’ll remember this

What a cute little guy. I would have a hard time resisting that little cherub. Those chubby cheeks and the dimple in his left cheek were so cute! I’m happy for them. And to Samuel’s birth mama…sweetheart you will always be his mama. You did do a courageous thing. It doesn’t take a thing to abort a child. Just go, get it done…no more responsibility. Keeping the baby is harder. Trying to give him a good life so he can live better than you… But giving him away? Not knowing what will happen to him. Giving away your heart Giving away your soul? That definitely takes courage at a different level. God bless you and I hope you’re able to get your life turned around.
