Honestly caring can mean a lot of things for example cleaning cage or cages and changing water and food, i clean my bird cage and change his food and water, but cant clean whole cage because its a big cage, but before i would clean and disfect everything and sometimes i mean now would disfect his cage stuff or his food dish or water.
Mia's story is so precious!!! I'm so glad I just found your channel. Although I have budgies, not parrotlets, but they're really similar right?? I haven't yet noticed a difference other than appearance.
I have a little female budgie named Percy who is very sweet and well trained but the strange thing is she seems to like baby spinach and carrot peals more than millet XD
I subscribed! You are a really good pet owner. Also you help me out about what things not to get and things to get for my bird! I love your parrotlet ❤️❤️❤️
How did you finally get your bird to eat veggies....!?! My birds are absolutely scared of veggies and fruits and anything remotely wet... What would you suggest?
SAIVSS chop them up and mix with your birds seeds and slowly add more veggies and less seeds each time you feed your bird. This should be done slowly over the course of a week or more. Depends if your bird is starting to like the veggies and fruits, each bird is different
Super awesome vlog!!! You provide great educational material for bird owners. I'm learning some wonderful and very helpful things. Thank you so much!!! Budgie Mamma to a flock of 4.
I got my bird from a dude from craigslist, she was on an all seed diet, and I took her to the vet and she had fatty liver disease. I also did everything I could do just like you. I got my bird on a pellet diet, and she got used to it surprisingly very quickly. She is not a big veggie fan, but she likes sweet corn and fruits. She likes to eat the veggies I am eating ;) That's a great way for a bird to get used to new food, when they see you eating them!
Hi ... You mentioneds an Emergency kit. Could you please let us know what is included in the kit and how we can put one together...I think that's a great idea and it would be helpful to others to know aslo. If you have time to show is via a video, that would be cool too. Thanks...LOVE your channel...very informative and fun.
Just seeing her reaction to whats happened in the birds past just shows how much she truly cares about them and I love that. I absolutely trust her, I'd trust her with my bird.
What a wonderful episode! Thanks for the stories as to how you adopted Mia and Zeeby. My parrotlet has deformed feet, too; her two smaller toes hook over her longer toes; they seem to be useless. It doesn't seem to cause her any trouble. Question: I have been looking for the rattan or wicker balls like you showed. Where do you buy yours? I can't seem to find them in bulk as my parrotlet and lovebird love tearing them up. Your videos always teach me things so I love watching.... please, keep them coming.
I received a bird through a connection of a friend. The bird had only eaten seed for its diet, it was nearing the 3/4ths of its lifespan. This bird had never been taken out of its cage, and the owners only changed its water about once a week. The cage was not an appropriate size, it was a travel size cage, on an unstable hanging stand. When we received the bird, we put it in a larger, unused cage, and bought it a friend. The bird steadily became friendlier, and enjoyed exploring the bird room, and foraging. A few days after it had successfully socialized it, I woke up to the birds screaming, and found the bird, layung on the cage floor, with the love bird trying to wake it up. Upon explaining the situation, our avian vet determined that the bird died from improper care.
my African grey also have a birth defect and was born without her toes on the left foot, she only has four small stumps but I swear she is the sweetest and most beautiful parrot in the world. ;)
my budgies enjoy lettuce and peas. they like to eat millet and treat balls and they love sunflower seeds. but is that a healthy diet? if not, what should i incorporate in to it?
Why I rescued my 3 year old male Parrotlet Yogi, he was on a seed and junk diet. I bought a bag of RoudyBush pellets and added more each day while taking out some of the old food, until there was no old food left, taking about 10 days to do this. At first, he tossed out the pellets, but over time, he started tossing out the old stuff. Now, he goes nuts over the pellets, raising hell if he finishes his daily allotment of pellets. He eats a heaping half tablespoon every day, with fruits and veggies on the side.
I didnt know about that illness, right now i feed my birds a seed mix and some little colourful feed, but they will only eat the seeds, they also wont eat any fruits i give them, what other feed should i buy for them?
First, love your channel and your passion for birds. I've recently rescued two cockateils that were on a all seed diet for 2 years. Ive switched them to a high end cockateil pellets but like mia, wont touch any fruits or veggies (ive tried a lot). Please recommend which veggies worked for mia and how did you get her to go for them?
omg i had no idea birds go through puberty, and i probably never would have found out so thank you for that !! also, you take your birds one walks?! thats amazing. and thank you for the wake up call about the veggies. are there any specific veggies that you recommend? I have a budgie!
something that worked for me with feeding my budgies new fruits was sticking some seed into the fruit so they can see it and eat both the seed and fruit at the same time! now both of them are fine with all veggies and fruits :)
I have lost my first bird to liver disease, she didn't eat anything but seeds, apple and carrot and I was too young and stupid to understand it all, I will never forgive myself :( You share so many nice things for birds, inspiring :)
I got a budgie from a pet store and he was in a cage. He had lots of perches and a few toys. He interacted with the other budgies. He had millet and budgie seed not sure if there were veggies. Is it okay to buy this budgie?
Hello Thank you for providing a lot of information, your videos are informative but not difficult to watch. May i ask what are the cages you are using? Thank you for your time and effort.
My parrotlets are on a seed diet for the past month or so - we tried feeding them fruits/vegs but they'd either be scared or just not like them so we gave up.. I didn't know they can get sick from an all seed diet. How did you get yours to start on vegs/fruit? Any suggestions..
Hi! I have a few questions for you! First - would you recommend Parrotlets for a novice owner? I am wondering about adding a bird but want to do it right. I have had a budgie as a youngster but..well..I think that was more my big sisters bird really. Second - how long do parrotlets live, generally (I know it all depends but, generally). Finally - do they need to have very warm environments to be healthy/happy? I am in a cold climate/region and my house gets quite chilly in winter, around 66 degrees. Is that too cold for them? Thank you..
HI! Please help... I got my bird a few years back and has been fed a seed only diet his whole life. The store had only fed him seeds and they told me to do that as well. As soon as you started talking about Fatty liver disease I felt sick to my stomach- my bird has all of the symptoms. How do I deal with this? Thanks
Hello congrants for your videos. I have two pairs parrotlets. I want to ask you if all of them must have different cages?I have a couple in the cage and the second couple in another but sometimes they fight. Thank you!!!!! My regards from Greece
hello! i am very interested in getting a pet parrotlet. over the course of the past several weeks i have read a lot about them and many people say that they are naturally aggressive/nippy. your birds seem so tame and nice to be around. did it take a long time to get your birds to be like that or did you buy them with a more timid demeanor? how can you tell when you visit a pet store or a breeder which bird will be the nicest? thank you for reading!
hey +FlockTalk please please please please please can you tell me how you got your bird to eat vegetables, because mine have had seeds most of their life and they're two years old. please could I have some tips?
hey Flock Talk my Green cheek i got at a petstore and he was very well treated he was the center of the atraction but i have a question i feed him a tablespoon of seed and and a tablespoon of dehydrated papya chunks and a tabkespoon of mixed dehydrated fruits and im trying to get him to eat veggies and other fresh fruits but he does like peeled apple very well
So I just got two budgies today. They seem pretty okay around each other for now but I was wondering if you have any advice? Right now they seem pretty stressed, which I suppose is natural since it's a new home and new people and they don't know what's going on.
I have seven budgies, they should be happy with lots of toys ,food and water and I recommend you keep them outside my birds HATE being inside they love inviting other birds from outside to talk to them and always remember to cover their cage every night
So I just got fischers 10 days ago and they are so scared of me... I got 4 of them in a separate cage and finally started eating out of my hands, but not all the time.. they freak out every time I put my hands in the cage... please make a video about how to train them and make them friendly.. Thank you very much
Hello ! I’m highly considering getting a Parrotlet in the sometime in the next few months , and seeing as you have a pair of them I was wondering if you could give me some advice . First of all , their diet . I want them to live a long , healthy life , and I read online that a high pelleted diet may lead to kidney issues ? Is this true or feeding them mostly pellets is fine ? Also , I know they can be aggressive , so should I let it play in a big area with my conure . And if I get two of them would they fight each other ( I will make time to handle it regularly so loneliness shouldn’t be too much of an issue ) . And how much space would you say one needs ? Also I know they are biters . This I don’t mind too much , as I trained most of the nippiness out of my conure and know how to train birds and can handle even his strongest bite. However I wouldn’t want to deal with a bird that bites often and whose bites really hurt , because I’m kind of worried that the sharpness of their beaks will make the bites more painful than my conure bites which I can handle .
I just got too new budgies, I have some questions is you have any answers please reply! 1. Do I need too feeding bowls? They don't fight, but I want then to be happy. 2. My cage is 40 cm wide, is is good enough 3.Should I put them outside for some time? We have a covered backyard that is enclosed by nets and has great shade. 4. Sometimes they peck, should I be alert?
I'm getting my first bird very soon, (my family has had many birds but I'm getting my first one that is actually mine soon) and I have a couple questions, 1. What cage do you have? 2. What food do you use? 3. Do you recommend getting one bird and taming and then getting another or do you recommend getting 2 birds at once. 3. Can male on male pairs get along ?
Should I feed my soon to be Parakeet different kinds of seeds? What vegetables and fruits should I feed my bird? And what fruits should I not feed her too often and which I should feed everyday.
At the pet store where I got my birds, I have a feeling they didn't treat them right because when they gave me my bird, they grabbed it and jammed it in a little box. My bird have been extra scared of people because of this, I am having a very difficult time trying to get them to feel safe and they refuse to eat anything but seed or treats. I am really trying.
What food do you use? I have a cockatiel and a princess of Wales and after hearing seed diets arnt the best I really want to get my best friends switched to pellets I’m pretty sure it’s called.. I’m only 11 so I hope it’s not to expensive..
You have brilliant parakeets. I take that back; you are brilliant. Could you please introduce yourself at the beginning of the videos? Sometimes it is hard to understand you, but you are the best bird trainer I have ever seen. I am referring folks to you.
I just brought home a blind Parakeet,(petstore realized he was blind and adopted out rather than returning to the breeder) I was wondering if you had any advice on caring for him?
Do you think you could do a video on the right diet for parrots/parakeets? I have one myself and I really care for him, so I want to make sure I'm doing the best for him and you own two and take really good care of them so I'd like to hear from you. If you can't do the video, do you think you could just tell me what I should be feeding my parakeet other than seeds?
Mary Jane The High its best to look it up online in multiple websites and/or ask an aviary vet as soon as possible, you want your bird on the healthiest possible diet with the correct measurements and variety because you truly are what you eat
I have a parrotlet and her feathers look really chipped like she bites them and ugly unlike other parrotlets I've seen where their feathers are smooth and look full, what should I do?
No I don't think so we have a cat and dog but she is kept up high so they can't get to her.. my house is very chaotic so maybe she just needs to be kept in a quiet place
Hey, now that I think of it, my first bird we only had for a week had a seizure out of nowhere.. Maybe he was on an all seed diet for too long. My other two eat all sorts, and they're slowly giving all sorts of fruits and veggies a try. They eat broccoli, carrot, capsicum, Sprouts, Apple and Bok choi. I'm glad they eat it but they still eat a lot of seed.
I have a parrotlet that has moulted badly, head and crop. I'm hoping it's the hard moult between baby and adult. Jazz had this and is now beautiful. They eat Apple's, I offer lots of veges and fruits.
