Lies, lies, all lies. LOL. My peru started out good and I chopped off a node to propagate. It's been sitting in that water for nearly a year and hasn't done a damn thing. Meanwhile, the mother plant sent out a 3-foot vine with barely any leaves on it. I think it's trying to crawl itself back to Peru to avoid remaining in my care.

Propagation takes waaaaayyy longer than epipremnum but in THEORY the nodes should produce roots.. I have one cutting on water now that has produced a root and it is the cutting of the tip- the other ones have yet to produce anything even though they've been in water for a good two months. In that time I could have cut and grown roots for 3 batches of epipremnum aureum cuttings hahaha.. Maybe it could help with the growth hormones to put a cutting of something that roots easily? (epipremnum aureum works, just like tradescentia)
@Schillysrh

Tom Huijben I've one in coco coir that finally has a root but the roots are still growing so slowly I can't do anything with it. Keeping them alive while they try to grow roots is an entire other issue 😂

Dear people who's saying they can't seem to propagate this plant:) I'm a newbie and no expert but I've propagated about 30 leafless nodes this year. This might sound stupid but the key is just to wait lol. This plant takes fooooorever to root. It can just sit there doing nothing for 6 months. I've tried a several different methods to see If I can speed up the rooting process. But there don't seem to be any short cuts. My advice is just put the cuttings in a clear container with spagnum moss. Then wait and wait. And wait some more.

I live near Vancouver, Canada and can relate to the extreme prices. I got a big monstera peru filling out a trellis for $50 this spring (thought that was overpaying but I was lovestruck anyway). The nursery I bought it at sold out in days. When that same nursery finally got a restock about a week ago, they doubled the price to $100! I couldn't beleive it. This nursery is also known for having superb pricing. The market is insane right now! That being said... This is probably my favorite plant I own 😍

Showing my age here: started life with Fahrenheit before going to secondary school as the UK switched to Celcius, so I was bi-lingual for many years. Bi-thermal? One of the teachers objected because, in human/British terms, we never got to negative Fahrenheit temps and he thought that minus x degrees C was philosophically daft: how can you have temperature less than zero, nothing, or no temperature? I can't imagine going back to F - C is mahoosively better, once you overcome that ridiculous objection!

"monstera peru" doesnt exist in any database of plants. I think its a fake name just like the epiprenum name. I believe the real name is philodendron opacum. You can double check on wikipedia and world checklist of selected plant families(wcsp). Maybe they made up the name to sell more because of the monstera hype? But philodendrons are hyped too... I live in sweden and they are sold as epiprenums here, really cheap.

@tomhuijben1073
@tomhuijben1073 3 года назад
As Kyra already said- It IS a monstera species! I think the whole deal with it is that it has not yet been properly named by the scientific community because it probably is more of a cross between monstera's instead and thus somewhat more of a variety than of a naturally evolved species? But it is yet unsure- so it gets called Monstera Sp. Peru- The Sp. stands for ''specie'' and indicates that it is an unknown species from Peru...

Hi Betsy! That is such a pretty plant! I'll definitely wait until the cost goes down to get one! LOL! I can't imagine some people paying $30+ for a cutting! I prefer buying fuller plants myself. As always, it's always so much fun watching your videos! You never fail to make my day so much brighter! Thank you so much for sharing! BTW, congrats on 36.1K subs, although you deserve many more!

Peru is not actually not that easy to prop, so many people have struggled. Me being one of them. Had them in water for months and only 1 grew roots. Apparently they prefer moss and high humidity to root.

Yes. But my notes said "of America". I corrected the error while talking but then rambled about the error.
