Growing up and playing down the park along "Karakung" Creek not far from my block near "Chinssessing" at about 8-12 years old, I knew I was in the footsteps of Indians past. Then I read about the discovery of landbridge migration from Asia. So I wondered - "what predecessor peoples living here at that time did those incoming landbridge migratory tribes meet, and eventually displace?" and "what was that earlier life and new meeting like?" That discovery may come after I'm gone, so I hope folks keep digging deeper for clues .... perhaps my kids, grandkids, and their descendants will find out far in the future.

This makes me so sad! I live at about the center of Montgomery County PA. I have as an adult learned a little about the Lenape people, but not this history. They where called the Turtle people, here.

Very moving. I would be curious as to the Lenape view of the New Sweden settlers who preceded Penn. Great interview.

From what I've read, that Swedish settlement never moved more than 10 miles in from the Delaware River. They didn't have the resources of the English to immigrate thousands of people a month.

This is a false "Tribe" - they are a nonprofit and have no Lenape lineage. Please contact the two federally recognized Lenape Unami Tribes - Delaware Tribe of Indians in Bartlesville, OK, or Delaware Nation in Anadarko, OK - for authentic and accurate information.

There is no way you could possibly know that. You may subscribe to a different “truth” about the Lenape, but you do not have THE Truth.

@@Danielle-nz9tn PS: I've done ol' Chuck's family tree. Not a Lenape in sight although his ancestors certainly colonized mine and forcibly removed us from our ancestral lands.

@@GoGoGigi246 The point is that nobody in his family tree might be who YOU would call a Lenape. YOU are not the final judge of who is a Lenape or not. The fact that you think you understand more about someone’s background than they do, despite the oral history they would have knowledge of that YOU would not, is funny to me.

@@Danielle-nz9tn no Lenape person would call his ancestors "Lenape" because he doesn't have any Lenape ancestors. Last I checked, my Lenape ancestors weren't from Germany and Ireland - but ol' Chucky's are. We also didn't have European names until the Dawes - ALL his ancestors have European names though - hmm, weird. I'm in the late 1600's on his tree - how much more do you think I should go back until I actually find anyone Lenape?... 🤭Also, the cool thing about historical evidence is that it's true whether you believe in it or not! Also it's the fact that you're arguing with a citizen of a federally recognized Lenape Tribe from your soapbox for me. Embarrassing. Hopefully y'alls fake nonprofit groups become a federal crime here before too long. Have a good one!
