Meet Bobby, the man driving from the UK all the way to Australia!
In this video, Bobby tells us his story of how things in his life unfolded to this very moment, the weeks prior to setting off on this epic journey he has ahead of him!
He tells us how the lows and hard times in life, are the perfect opportunity for change, as he explains that he would of never left his 'comfortable life' to chase a dream, it was only when a relationship in his life fell apart, followed by months of misserery, propelled him to the point of change, adventure and happiness!
Bobby spent every day working on this dream, converting the truck and planning for the trip ahead!
We definitely know why the truck has the nickname 'Boujee Appartment on wheels' stick around for the tour, where Bobby shows us inside and out, as well all the the cool features and fancy touches that makes this truck feel like a classy home on wheels!
Thanks to Bobby for meeting up with us, sharing his story, and giving us a look around! We wish him and Red all the best on their travels.
To follow along with Bobby's journey, make sure to give him a follow on Instagram:

Just seen the end of this, and people who say, its not fair on the dog, or whatever they said, know feck all about dogs and the relationship, they have with us. Dogs just want to be with us, its a pack thing, and we are their leader. The best of british luck to you Bobby, you deserve a better life....and that dog loves you👍

Hi from Australia. Coming from someone who has travelled a lot. Just be mindful that countries have their own rules about bringing in animals. If your going through East Asian countries such as Thailand. Unfortunately you will not be able to bring Red into Australia after that. Make sure countries you are travelling through are not on the list that will prohibit you from bringing in Red. Also bringing him into Oz is time consuming and expensive and he will have to be quarantined for 10 days in a facility. Just wanting to make you aware so you are prepared. Good luck. ETA: The process to bring a dog into Oz must start 7 months prior. The main factor is that Australia requires your pet to have a rabies neutralising antibody titre test at least 180 days before travelling to Australia. And this test needs to be done 3-4 weeks after your pet is vaccinated for rabies. He will also need a heap of vaccinations and blood work.

I live in Brisbane, Australia and a saw a setup very similar to this in the carpark of a local shopping centre. Owners were from Germany and over the previous two years had driven from their home through Europe, the Middle East, India, Thailand and Malaysia before driving it onto a cargo ship bound for Sydney at Singapore. What a life for the adventurous. I was so impressed, I decided to buy a 12.5m coach and convert it into a motorhome with the aim of travelling Australia. As I write this, the conversion is 95% complete, and we're on our first official holiday in it-albeit 50km from home to see that everything works the way it should.
@keepitreal1547
@keepitreal1547 9 месяцев назад
That's fantastic, I hope all goes well & enjoy every minute. Having been looking at motorhomes & campers this past few months, I'm now ready to buy & go on my own adventure. I'm just undecided on a purpose built modern motorhome by a well known brand, or a self made, older, rough, tough & ready more stealth truckcamper conversion. The modern motorhome being 3x the price with all home comforts, the older robust home on wheels being something I wouldn't need to be too protective of. Decisions, decisions.
@doncoleman4938
@doncoleman4938 9 месяцев назад
@@keepitreal1547 From personal experience, may I put forward the following-many self-made ones aren't constructed that well. If you do decide on a home-made conversion, make sure that the workmanship is top notch. many sell unfinished projects cheap, after being overwhelmed by the real costs. I think we've spent about $500 on sealants alone on ours. Ensure that the fittings will survive a road trip, especially plumbing behind wall. Building a motorhome is not the same always as building a house. You need to compensate for constant vibrations with fittings. However, the advantage is that it's easy enough and cheap enough to modify it to suit your tastes. A purpose-built motorhome will be professional built and might even come with a warranty. We built our own mainly because we needed a larger shower to accommodate my wife's disability, a larger kitchen and didn't need bunks for children etc. Nothing purpose built suited us at the time.

I love the fact Bobby is taking Red with him, but Australia has very strict quarantine rules which WILL be an issue. I’d strongly suggest looking into what is required for getting a dog into Australia now rather than just winging it! Red could well end up in quarantine for some time at Bobby’s expense on arrival otherwise. Apart from that, I love the sentiment and the truck!

Hello! Just thought i'd offer some help about bringing your dog into australia. A lot of people don't know that all animals entering australia have to go through a 6-month quarantine, but if you're flying from certain SE asian countries (malaysia i know for sure) there is a blanket ban on bringing pets with you. You can get around this by having them quarantine in New Zealand first, and then all animals from New Zealand are allowed automatic access to australia without quarantine. So if you're having trouble getting your dog into australia, you might want to consider doing a trip around new zealand first. There are also a lot of vaccinations and tests that need to be done. It's very hard and expensive but it's doable :) It cost me 18k aud to get my dog from malaysia to perth
@mareef9617
@mareef9617 11 месяцев назад
Definitely an option... But the rules to get a dog into NZ are also very very strict and require vet certificates, vaccinations and quarantine on arrival. It is not cheap and your paperwork must be 100% correct. I would recommend talking to an pet import agent if you are serious about this as an option.
@PigeonBotherer
@PigeonBotherer 11 месяцев назад
@@mareef9617 Well obviously i know that, since i said i brought my dog in 🤣 i didn't pay 18k and send him to NZ so he could be more cultured and sample the cuisine, maree
@mareef9617
@mareef9617 11 месяцев назад
Keep your pants on matey potatey. You kind of implied that it was an easy option, but expensive. It's not. I worked at the border for 15 years, in this field, and have seen it go wrong many many times through lack of knowledge and prep... Hence my advice to the chanel ownerl (not you) to use a pet import agent.
@jujuoliver6959
@jujuoliver6959 11 месяцев назад
I was watching this quite interested but then was thinking hang on it's not that easy to take pets to certain countries especially Australia and New Zealand too, I would hate him to get so far and have to leave the poor dog somewhere for months.
@PigeonBotherer
@PigeonBotherer 11 месяцев назад
@@jujuoliver6959 Yeah :(( it's a very long and expensive process, and sometimes your doggi can be denied entry altogether. It's upsetting but the ecosystems in australia and new zealand are extremely fragile, so it's necessary. A lot of expats don't realise this when they move overseas temporarily, so they will adopt puppies and kittens and then have to abandon them when they move back home

I’m From Central Victoria Australia & it’s very difficult to bring a pet to oz. I’ve copied & pasted the requirements below, please read them. Pets travelling from non-approved countries have to spend at least six months in an approved country in Category II or III before moving to Australia. Upon entry in Australia, your pet will spend 10 days in the quarantine facility before you can take him or her home. Also good luck-love your rig & dog!

Mate, I'm inspired. My partner is moving to another continent for a job and we've decided for various reasons not to go out there together. My mortgage will be done and dusted in six months. I converted a minibus into a campervan during COVID and have used it enough to know what needs refining. I'm thinking... a year mooching about maybe? Gonna take a while to save up for it. Maybe a year before I can set off. But you're so right. When you have these big upheavals and you're left wondering what's what... it's time for an adventure!

Great DIY job mate, but if you're planning to drive as far as Australia, do yourself a favour and be a bit better prepared before you leave. It's great that you have two spare tyres, but you definitely need some kind of mechanical lift system for spare to get them down to the ground and back on the vehicle when you need to change them. You don't want to be lifting 100kg+ tyres by hand in places like Mongolia - be ready before you go. Prepare well, enjoy the trip, see you when you get here!

Big routing issues in this bold goal - Central Asia route is basically closed due to Azerbaijan issues. Thru Russia and into China is frankly very hard and expensive because foreign drivers can't drive in China. Down through India is complicated by big Iran problems and then almost impossible to get beyond India due to the Myanmar access issue. Only option I can see is a ship from India to Malaysia or Thailand. Then what to do with the truck if you get to Australia?? How will you get the dog into Australia.....that is a whole complicated story in itself.

Wow sounds amazing. I have got that good job nice house and car and happy married. But lm so envious of you to take the plunge. You and red will have the time of your LIFE'S and never look back definitely made the right decision and the truck looks great all the best.

Love the truck! Definitely think about where you plan to go for Red’s sake - he is a beauty and would hate for things to go sour for him en route. Lots of quarantine time ahead if you go to the wrong places, too! Personally, I would opt for New Zealand vs Australia - more laid back, fewer poisonous critters, and more interesting landscapes.

I would want access to the cab from the living area but this is a great build. Hope it goes well.
