Frank Cifaldi is doing everything he can to save the history of video games. Everything related to gaming's past is fair game, from classic arcade boxes, cartridges, consoles, and even to old gaming magazines. Watch more documentaries about video games with Waypoint: vice.video/2FlIbF7

Met Frank and Kelsey yesterday, and they were very nice and conversational people. I wasn't even born when most of these games came out, but I love so many of them, and have such a passion for keeping them preserved. Hopefully someday I can learn what they need to help keep a slice of history preserved for all us nerds, and anyone else that's curious about video game history.

manu ochenta Every field and endeavor needs people that work passionately for whatever end goal there may be. So while we of course need more people working to preserve and protect our planet, working to preserve our culture and history is equally important. Without proof of our history we might as well have never existed. And video games are very much a part of that cultural history. And it’s a history that, just like books, radio and film before it, runs the risk of having huge chunks of it lost to the void of time. From an art preservation standpoint, that’s horrifying. Thus, people like Cifaldi are extremely important. Him doing his thing has nothing to do with others doing what they can to preserve our planet, other than the fact that they’re both in the business of preservation, and it certainly isn’t a reflection of anybody’s intelligence, nor lack there off.

You would be able to provide peer reviewed sources and studies showing ur right and not a massive douche nozzle who really couldnt give 2 fucks about earth and nature but you couldn't pass up the chance to virtue signal on a goddamn joke post. They should do one piece about the Islamic Slave Trade, theyd get little info from my page. Im pretty sure this topic would create a lot of discussion. The biggest reason they should do this imo is that muslims around the world deny these facts vigorously when in fact there is a mountain of evidence of their 15 century atrocities that actually continue STILL TO THIS DAY

I worked on a Navy contract that was part of the internet connection between the DOD and higher education. There were rooms of computers and you would not believe the cheers and happy clapping for programming a personal Happy Birthday message for someone to show up on a screen. That was 50 years ago. The treasures you will have 50 from now will be priceless.

These days there are a few privately held seriously impressive game collections out there. What is badly needed now is for countries and states around the world to take this medium seriously - build and run state-backed museums and archives (a la MOMA, Natural history Museum, Science Museum etc) giving people access and preserving these cultural masterpieces for the future.

I've been doing the same kind of thing with 80s tech. Most 80s tech has made its way to landfills and nobody seems to care about preserving it even though once it's all gone, it'll be gone forever. Things like walkie talkies, old computers, telephones, pagers, etc. kind of vanish from public consciousness once they've been replaced with more modern versions. It makes me sad to think about, but I'm very proud of my collection and I hope to one day display it somewhere the public can enjoy them, too.
