Shea's message board: "You're listening to Shea's queen of melody, Jane Jarvis, on the Thomas organ"
@ricsanta1
@ricsanta1 8 лет назад
+zonk42 Forgive me for being a pain in the butt, but I remember old Shea Stadium and its original scoreboard and message board -- I believe this was the actual message: "You're listening to Jane Jarvis, Shea's Queen of Melody, coming up with hits on the Thomas organ" I also remember that whenever she played the Star Spangled Banner, the lyrics were displayed one line at a time on the message board starting from the top and going to the bottom -- after the line "Were So Gallantly Streaming" was displayed, the display went back to the top with the line "And The Rocket's Red Glare" and went back to the bottom ending with the final line "And The Home Of The Brave". :^)

I’ve been a Mets fan since 1983. I was born in December of 1961 (four months before their debut at the Polo Grounds). I live in a large western Canadian city. Hearing this brought a few tears to my eye. I’ve never been able to see the Mets play in person yet. I hope to achieve that soon. Looking forward to going to Citi Field and having my pic taken with Mr. Met!

Reminds me of walking up the ramp, and then "boom" there was that perfect expanse of green. Citi Field doesn't have that moment. My Dad and me would watch batting practice, start with a dog and a soda, and just talk about the game. My eyes are welling the F' up right now. I can still smell the park, feel the sun on my face, and the roar of the jets overhead. Ain't no place like Big Shea...a ballpark like it oughta' be

Imagine a boyfriend entering his girlfriend's house to meet her parents for the very first time. That boy is on a mission to impress her parents to know their daughter is with an awesome nice guy. He is a Mets fan, on the road as the away team. Baseball inspiring him every step of the way. It is now Opening Day, this the first major step! This music plays the moment he enters her house (or ballpark) and steps up to the plate to meet them. What a moment!

@burtshoobs1033
@burtshoobs1033 2 года назад
I do. It wasn't always that way. Until about 1985 you actually could go up the long escalators. Then some numbskull decided after a late night game to slide down the handrail and took a fly off it. They immediately closed them forcing people to leave the stadium via the ramps. Going up, it all depended on the crowd size at times. Large crowds- open, small crowds not so

It's 1965 all over again and there on the Reingold Scoreboard is written: Jane Jarvis and The Hammond Organ, as the chalk goes down, final preps by the grounds crew followed by the lineup cards being brought out. Chills man. When $3.50 plus carfare from Aurburndale to see a game in a fairly good seat.

It's not a baseball game if you don't have an o r g a n playing everything just hearing that pre-recorded crap this is not the same the organist would be following the game and come up with something just two or three notes that were perfect for the situation most of the time it's not a baseball game without live organ music

@paulj0557--I don't know the model, but Mets broadcasters and the scoreboard specifically informed fans that they were indeed listening to "Jane Jarvis at the Thomas organ." During the late 60s-early 70s Thomas sponsored full-page ads in Mets yearbooks featuring Ms. Jarvis.
@jimrodgers8647

They should really have a retro-sound night where all of Jane's catchy tunes should be played. So much of it was catchy-soothing, which is the polar opposite of the blaring we hear today. You could even have a reasonably toned conversation while her stuff was playing. Though knowing the senseless sensibilities of the people in charge of such things now for the this organization, they'd probably jack it up so loud as to make it intrusive...... like every other sound they produce.

One of the reasons I don't go to ball games any more (in any sport) is the music they feel they have to blast at you constantly. It isn't the music itself, though that's bad enough. It's the fact that they won't let you have a moment's peace. Even ten seconds they have to fill with that obnoxious noise, as if you can't sit there for a moment without some distraction. Isn't the game supposed to be the focus? This all started with Frank Cashen in Baltimore and I hope he burns in hell for it.

This sounds like a Thomas organ. There doesn't sound like a Leslie rotating speaker is on her organ. Very odd, but doesn't sound odd at all. In fact the Thomas organs had a new kind of tone that organ players either hated or loved depending on who you ask. Personally I love the fresh up front sound of a Thomas. It would be nice to know the organs Jane played through her career. Does anyone know which models of Thomas she played? Is this recording indeed a Thomas, which model?
