Wow. This coach loves his players so much he’s willing to receive death threats and nationwide hate just to watch them succeed. Probably one of the most respectable things I’ve seen.

He’s creating a spotlight for his players, imagine how many d1 schools look at his players. He’s a hero in my eyes. Helping them boys to the next level of success.

Once upon a time I was an assistant principal at Refugio Elementary School and while on bus duty one day, I witnessed Coach Herring do the following: One of our elementary students was going to be picked up late from school because his parents had a flat tire outside of Victoria. The student was crying quite a bit and we all tried to do our best to console him. Coach Herring heard about what was going on and drove to the elementary school at about 3:45 PM, right before football practice. He hit a knee in front of the student and asked him if he wanted to be one of his assistant coaches during practice for the day while he waited for his parents to arrive. The student stopped crying and smiled from ear to ear. I can remember asking that same student back in 2013 what he wanted to be when he grew up and he replied “I want to be the starting running back for the Refugio Bobcats”. This week, I got to see that same student play running back for the Refugio Bobcats. These are the kind of memories I have of working on the leadership team in Refugio, Texas. It’s leaders like Jason Herring that make hero’s out of young men in Refugio. Congrats to the Bobcats on their state title win this week!!! Go Cats Go!

There’s a small town (2650 people) team in Minnesota that has a similar perception. They’re on a 70 + game winning streak and they have currently won 5 straight state championships. You have to remember, the offensive job is to score points and the defensive job is to stop them. Don’t be mad because opposing defenses aren’t doing their job. If you don’t like what’s happening when you play these teams, coach them to do their job better.

To all of you who don't want to be spanked by 90+ points, don't let them score 90+ points......in other words get better at football.

When you play sports you may be volunteering to be humiliated. You can learn from that. It can make you humble or bitter.

Lowering his standards was hurting his team. I don’t know, someone tell me: What is worse? An opposing team getting demoralized by a far superior program or the superior team making it all the way to the playoffs, only to have their hearts broken? Me, personally? I feel for the team who lowers it’s standards only to have it kill them in the playoffs.

So his team never had to finish a game because his league is so shit and so in order to make sure his team is conditioned for REAL teams he plays his starters 4 quarters. I’m failing to see the issue here.

Honestly as a High School coach you need to be stern as you deal with a lot of immaturity, you’re teaching young men how to earn and work hard in whatever they do in life and no matter how hard it may seem if you keep pushing you’ll achieve what you’ve worked hard for.

My swim team was in the City Championship and one school totally demolished all of the high school swim teams. I wasn’t mad but wished them the best to state playoffs.

Sounds like the other schools of similar size need to git gud. Scores like that shouldn't happen between similarly sized schools.

When I was in high school we played Refugio. In our district everyone knows who the powerhouses are, and Refugio was one. There is nothing wrong with the way coach Hering coaches, he can take out his starters the 2nd half and still win 60+ That’s just how good he coaches and the Refugio football program is.

He’s teaching his kids how to win! They don’t like it the competition should get better!
