A great way to relieve stress as an adult is, genuinely, to be able to act like an *absolute child* along with _other adults,_ receiving ZERO JUDGEMENT in the process! 🥹
in an ideal world, organisations like Alveus can create a new standard for rescued & non releasable animals hopefully! ppl brought these animals into their predicaments (mostly) so its up to ppl to create good circumstances for them especially if non releasable
@@Tau_Aquila oh 100% one near me is closing down or at least shrinking its animal numbers significantly, because people grew and create many buildings and homes around the zoo leaving it no space to grow. Its animals numbers grew, and the facility didn't. Basically resulting in a lot of animals getting neglected simply down to space needs as you can't provide adequate enrichment if the animals lack the space to even run well, yk? But fortunately there are some around that isolated themselves from human populations so they could grow and not have people take that space from them 😅. Not even joking one is on an island that has 3 ways to drive to it and a boat to it. It's surrounded by water and then land beyond that. Pretty cool, and they still haven't used all that space up despite some of their enclosures being so large you can look hundred feet in one direction and not see the other side's fence.
Awa and timber are so cute!!! Also about the whole “people having wolfdogs as pets” thing, one of our neighbors used to have 2 wolfdogs (illegal where I live btw) and they had killed multiple neighborhood cats (including one of ours) and almost everyone in the neighborhood had told this dude but no matter what he would insist that they would never do that. I felt really bad for the dogs because it was clear they didn’t want to be there, the cage was INCREDIBLY small and they would constantly bark and howl and jump on and try to jump over the fence
Sad, ye unfortunately one of the biggest problems with people keeping them as pets is because they can jump a 6-8ft fence even with an overhang if they really put their mind to it. If I remember right a sanctuary had that happen when they were trying to slowly introduce a male and a female so they'd be a pair and not alone, yk? (They were fixed ofc) The male just cleared that fence not caring for it being around 8ft tall with an overhang, he was in there and they were good. But ye that's the biggest problem as it is rare for people to even do suitable fencing for some pet dogs like huskies, Belgian Malinois, and GSDs for example can also clear 6ft fences. So, the wolves easily clear the fences and rather than get proper fences and properly enrich the animals many just end up in small cages day and night because someone got way over their head and it is way to easy in some places to even LEGALLY keep them. Here in the UK a certain hybrid wolf x dog, only has to be 4-5 generations away from a pure wolf to not be considered a hybrid anymore and instead a dog breed you can legally get without licences. It's just sad to me.
if you ever did wanna do big chunks of ice, I've found filling red solo cups to be really efficient. they rarely break with the expanding ice (just don't fill it all the way to the top) usually just the bottom of it expands, and then you just push on the bottom and the ice pops right out.
I’m pretty sure mayas parents are also in similar fields and she’s definitely had a lot of help. That’s not a bad things. It’s actually a wonderful thing. You just may not have similar support in this specific context. Success is subjective
i think she would herself admit that she got very lucky! she also worked very hard of course, but she was in a rare set of circumstances with the specific education and background she needed to make Alveus happen and there were still plenty of ways things could've gone wrong. it doesnt get talked about much but pure dumb luck is a major factor in most successful peoples' stories
@@ElijahCem You take lots of 'vegetables', water and ice and throw them in a big bucket and mix them together. The ice water seperates the 'seeds' from the plant. Then you filter that stuff through special bags and you're left with a muddy-sludge. That sludge is hash, which is basically super concentrated vegetables (which you can smoke). The process is a lot of work, so typically when you make it, you make many batches at a time. So when someone comes in and wants to buy 30 bags of ice, it's likely that they're using to make hash because other jobs that use a lot of ice like restaurants or fisheries typically have their own ice supplier/machine and don't have to buy from stores
Just watched the video all the way through not realizing I watched it on release. Glad the wolfdogs aren’t too afraid of the food and ice you gave them.
4:34 Chat reacting to the lense cap/void is hilarious XD Such drama queens :3 "Hello darkness my old friend" "The darkness has consumed us" "Guys I'm scared of the dark" "IM BEING TAKEEEEN" "Chat don't touch me there ;-;"
"you can keep it on them" (film the animals I'm not important) Maya is a very inspiring person. Thank you for all the content and hard work you do on and off camera.
I have a friend who had a wolfdog. She was huge. She was nearly blind when she got to around 11 or 12, but she still killed every small animal that touched her lawn.
My aunt had a wolf dog, super scary dog cuz he'd go crazy around ppl but she never let it inside or anything. And had a horrible shelter. I don't remember ever approaching him but I've heard he was super sweet if you did approach him. He just sorta wanted attention and never got any so when ppl came near he got too excited. But cuz he was so insanely big it was scary. He was put down after he bit a little girl that kept fucking with him
It's really heartwarming that in between your work as an animal sanctuary you find the time to care for a special needs, anxious pet. Chat really has a lovely home in your care 😊
I really respect and appreciate the amount of focus on how fucking horrible wolf dog hybrids are as pets. I’ve seen such an increase in people having them as pets since I learned about them when I was like 10. Wolf hybrids are stuck in this horrible limbo. When people get them as pets they can’t predict how well they’ll be able to adjust to life as pets so typically they are just not manageable
Can't wait to see when they get more cameras in the wolf enclosure. Kinda good it's taking a while though so maybe they can see where to best position them to where the wolves like to hang out. Electric line positioning permitting.
(But seriously if I'm ever in stream while Maya's talking about the wolves I'm gonna constantly think she's talking about me for .25 seconds before my brain catches up. Every time)
here in indiana there's a wolf sanctuary and it's cool cause you can enter the enclosure (after being properly informed on the fact they are non-releasable but still wild, signing papers, etc.) and even pet them (still like wolf societal rules you have to follow about like stature and whatnot i don't remember it all). You can also watch them feed the non-meetable/agressive/ones that are done for the day like half a deer carcass that they throw in from a bridge above which is really cool.
I love the combination of true education and silliness. “Are they real?” Dying. Alveus is absolute goals. I would kill to be able to make a sanctuary myself. My life dream.
I'm looking forward to the DNA test results! If they're only 75 lbs I'll be surprised if the wolf content is over 65% or so. I'm really interested in both wolves and dogs so I'm a member of r/wolfdogs and have learned a lot about them. It's really sad and frustrating to see people breed wolfdogs :( you're right that they don't make good pets as they are part wild animal, and it's always good to see people rescue wolfdogs that were bred to be "pets" and give them the proper care and environment that they actually need. Thanks for taking these guys in and giving them a good home, Maya & Alveus!
if you paint the fence black we will be able to see it better. have seen the difference on a chicken coup and it definitely helps. don't know the physics behind but I highly recommend it 💚
My highschool friend her dad was a cop and illegally had a wolf dog. I was at her house she told me stay in the bedroom till i come back , all of a sudden her door flung open and the wolf dog was staring me in the face! It had opened the door ran in and had its front paws on my shoulders and was growling staring me in the eyes. I didnt wanna scream for her cause i figured i would startle the wolf dog but i kept thinking if he bites me it would get my neck so very very slowly i raised my arm to block my neck and no sooner did i get my arm in front of my neck, he bit and took a hunk out of my wrist. Right then my friend came back grabbed the "pet" and was freaking out for me lol. Her lovely dad who was a cop and keeping a illegal animal yelled at me and told me y would u open the door and let him in. No matter how many times i told him what happened he just kept blaming me! So i should of turned him in but i didnt want any trouble and i wouldnt want anything to happen to the animal but no one besides a sanctuary or zoo should have these beautiful animals!!
When I was little, I went to a birthday party for a classmate I barely knew and she had a wolfdog. The wolfdog was too large and destructive to be in the house so they kept him permanently chained up in the yard. He had a caged in enclosure with a dog house and that was it. I'd never seen a wolfdog so I spent most of the birthday party in the yard petting him. He was very friendly and sweet. It's sad that his life was spent chained living in a dog house too small for him.
Love this. Thank you for taking in the wolf dogs. Did you hear about Cody Roberts in Wyoming and what he did to the yearling on February 29th? Wyoming has no laws protecting wolves. We're changing that though!!! #hogsforhope #boycottwyoming
huge props for rescuing a hybrid. they still pop up from time to time where i live and they are usually just destroyed when they inevitably snap and try to kill their owner. well its less of snapping and more of just being a damn wolf inside a house. i know someone that had a "hybrid" that just ended up being a regular wolf pup and that ended with arterial spray on the walls from the bite wound on his arm. the owner recovered and the pup was taken by the state. no clue if it was destroyed or went to a rescue. it just makes me very sad when i hear about another mouth breathing goober buying a hybrid
I saw a thing once where this woman was talking about the difference between dogs and wolf hybrids… If you leave a dog alone in the house too long, get into the garbage, tear up a pillow right? If you leave a wolf hybrid in your house alone too long, they will disassemble your couch down to the frame.
