My first serious girlfriends mum gave me a real hard time, I couldn't do anything right and she constantly had to find fault in everything I did. Her dad on the other hand adored me to bits and we still hang out a few times a year even after 10 years 😂
The sequel is one of those films that surpasses the original. It was so outrageous and one of my favorite experiences in a theater. Also, this lay the foundation for me enjoy super awkward comedy like the Office. Would've watched that show sooner if I would've known that was the type of humor it played with ahaha
You’ll probably really enjoy a lot of British tv shows then, they always lean heavy on the awkwardness. Some of my favourites include The Inbetweeners, The IT Crowd and Peep Show. I enjoy Meet the Fockers as well, but I think the first is still a far better film. 👍
Pam is the absolute worst. For the following reasons: Didn't at least warn Greg about her dad Lied to her parents about them cohabitating Doesn't tell Greg she used to be engaged Was not sympathetic about Greg having to borrow Jack's clothes Let's him sleep in while everyone is up and eating breakfast, thus making him look like an asshole Makes Greg borrow clothes from her brother without introducing them first Doesn't tell Greg that Kevin is the best man and they are having a BBQ at his house Is on Kevin's team during volleyball where she calls her ex old nicknames and also tells him that Greg is scared of the ball Volunteers Greg to find Mr Jinx putting even more pressure on him Does not have Greg's back when everything goes to shit and let's him leave F Pam!!!!
13:33 Unfortunately it is the same. I live with my grandparents and my aunt visited once and they made her and her husband sleep in seperate rooms because they couldn't trust they wouldn't try and have sex... silently... lol
hhah yea PAM is really a villian and they do go overboard on some scenes, BUT george had the best reactions to GREG's real name and that line about the real owner of that luggage and his "toys" with a party🤩
Gaylord was more popular name between 1850 - 1950 , its Celtic origin Gaillard , got a bit twisted when made English. As family name its rare , one report said there was about 80 Gaylord families living in NY in 1830 and that 1/3 of all families known with that name in world. Must been a clerical error as with many immigrants, it's even in Godfather 2, they did wrote as family name the city they come from .
I always thought Pam being so oblivious to the awkwardness of all the situations Greg was in when dealing with her family and how unsupportive she was in trying to make him comfortable, would have been the biggest red flag for me if I were in his position.
Totally. For the sake of the joke they made the character so completely unrealistic. It made it hard for me to enjoy this movie because I'm just constantly thinking, 'wow this woman would be a terrible partner, why does he want to marry her?'
Her and the romantic interest in Anger Management are the two people who the main characters of the movie deserve to dump 100%. If you never saw Anger Management she basically has him tortured by this guy and put through hell to force him to propose, they had zero issues she just wanted him to propose and decided getting him beat up arrested and making him think she left him was the best way.
Dude... she tells him to lie about their living situation literally a split second before meeting him. She casually tosses out Greg's hatred for cats even though she's well aware of Jack's relationship with Jinxy. She sucks.
WOWWW 😂 Random, but have you seen the video where someone compiled every time Owen Wilson says, 'Wow' in a movie? Whenever I hear his name, that compilation loops in my head lol
Pam is the real villain of this movie, she set up Greg from the start. She could have TRIED to prepare him for her insane family. Also, Pam repeatedly did Greg so dirty during this movie. I recommend the sequel for sure.
The actor who played the mother is Blythe Danner who is Gwyneth Paltrow's mom.

DeNiro had a movie with Anna Hathaway where he was a nice man. No angryness no secret background just a nice elderly man in an intern job. :D (The Intern)
Fokker/Focker is a well known Dutch surname. Fokker company well known for aircraft. The name Gaylord existed long before the word "gay" became an orientation in 1970's. Gay used used to mean happy and outgoing.
I flew on a lot of Fokker planes when I lived in Indonesia particularly to eastern parts of the country. (Or it could have been the same one...not recent models but pretty trustworthy!)
Famous British pilot called Douglas Bader in WW2 - he lost his legs after getting shot down but learnt to fly again using prosthetics. Anyway, years after the war he's invited to a girls school to address the students about his experiences “’So there were two of the f***ers behind me, three f***ers to my right, another f***er on the left,’ he told the audience. The headmistress went pale and interjected: ‘Ladies, the Fokker was a German aircraft.’ Sir Douglas replied: ‘That may be madam, but these f***ers were in Messerschmitts’.”
To answer George's question about grace, from someone who grew up in a Catholic household: there are certain traditional / historical prayers for saying grace, such as the one that starts "Bless us Oh Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive" etc. etc. But you can also just say a short improv prayer like "Dear God, thank you for this food and keep those whom we love safe" or whatever.
“God is great God is good Let us thank him for our food By his hands We are fed Thank you for our daily bread Amen” Said before every dinner/ supper (for some people every meal). God loves it
That little girl George said speaks like a 20 yr old is actually my older sister! She learned to speak very early and was very eloquent at a young age 😂. Love the channel and great reaction! (Also, if anyone wants to feel old, that little girl is now 34 with a little girl of her own!)
I'm so glad yall also dislike Pam. You're 100% right she's setting him up to fail! lol Fun reaction. The next one is good too! Frustrating in similar ways.
Yeah Pam is the real villain in this movie. She can't be adult enough to be honest with her parents or Greg creating this whole web of mistrust yet some how escaping any blame for it. Red flag in a person you're thinking of proposing to honestly.
22:20 I finally got an answer to my question (whether George was your name given at birth). I wonder what your name is and how it is pronounced. Is it difficult because we don’t use the sounds in English and/ or could you spell it in such a way that an English speaker could “sound it out”? Did you choose George or did your parents decide? Edit: for example, Xi’An is close to how you would pronounce my name in English
He said he was born in China and moved to Canada when he was in HS or something. It’s safe to assume his given name was not George lol. I’m Korean American and a lot of times when East asians immigrate to an English speaking country, we’re given a list of standard Anglo names to choose from and we just go with the simplest ones to pronounce tbh. I chose John for that reason
@@saltycalmonds When I was a kid, I knew a girl my age who had an easy-to-pronounce Korean first name. It was so weird to me when, in her teens, she suddenly changed it to a more European one. I mean, even the _spelling_ of her Korean name was easy! Although I guess it might have been non-obvious to an English speaker who hadn't yet been told the correct spelling.
I know a guy named Chu Min, and everyone calls him Chewie. He even introduces himself as such. He became a doctor, though with his demeanour you would never guess.
@@saltycalmonds I knew of other examples of this (Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and others). I asked in a different video if George was his real name. While I have no bad intentions in asking that I’m sure there are people who would find me “assuming” his first name isn’t George offensive.
I do like that Jack takes a while to get it through his head his head that he is wrong about Greg, but once he does he behaves (mostly) like an adult about it.
To this day, when I go to an airport, I have that scene stuck in my head: "BOMB BOMB BOMB! BOMB BOMB BA-BOMB!" And I'm like "Don't say it... don't say it...."
I haven’t met an overly protective parent, but I did meet a scary one. I was dating a Russian girl when I was younger, and when I went to pick her up for a date, her father opened the door and MAN, dude made me feel small. I’m 6’2 and I had to look up at him, and the guy was JACKED. Needless to say, me and her didn’t last long😂
@@johnmguzman7491 I mean, just be friendly and understand that their is going to be a culture barrier if you aren’t Russian or understand their culture well, especially Russians who come from the rural areas or the cities. Family also means EVERYTHING to them as well. Just be friendly and open minded and you shouldn’t have a problem. Jokes aside, me and her didn’t last long because we both went off to different colleges.
Jesus Christ, don't clam-jam your daughters. It's rough enough being a teenager. Let 'em have some hormonal fumbling and maybe even an orgasm or two. It's actually kinda creepy how invested some dads are in keeping their daughters (always specifically daughters) pure and virginal.
Watching this for the first time was such a surreal experience: my dad physically looks like a Bob De Niro lookalike, was in the military (and we always suspected had a hand in intelligence) and was typically overbearing and unaware of being so. Soooooo freaky!!! And he's crazy obsessive about his pets too (but will deny it to his death) 😅
I heard a rumor that the ratings department had a very strict rule about the pronunciation of Greg’s last name and they had to make sure it was clear they were saying “Focker”
And when they were getting ready to release the sequel, they would only allow the title to be “Meet the Fockers” if the studio could find a family with the last name Focker in the country. Given that it was named that, they must have succeeded.
In my mid-20's, working in constriuction and renovation, mostly in Manhattan. I met a nice girl at a party in Hoboken New Jersey..we set up a dinner date. She picked me up in her Mercedes and we drove miles down I-95 to an Italian restaraunt she'd chosen. I asked her what she 'did' and she said she was just 'helping out' with her parents' business while she decided what career she wanted. She went on to say that her uncle, her brother and her cousins also worked at the business, which was...."concrete, and waste disposal". I remarked that I didn't yet know her last name. "Bonanno" she said. I instantly made the connection between our general location, her "family business" and her last name. It was a pleasant date, she was nice and fun, but when she suggested a 2nd date, I demurred. Bonanno is the name of one of 'The Five Famiies" of New York...i.e. Mafia. I did not fancy meeting her parents.

Girlfriend was such a red flag for this film. It's funny to watch as a comedy due to the situations it leads to, but she just ends up being the most unsupportive oblivious set you for failure partner that Greg should have 100% walked away from.
You should meet Greg's parents, they're _fun_ and very _accepting_ of others, especially Pam's parents. After that, maybe meet his children in the future.
Great movie and so many quotable scenes. "I just figured if you're going to follow in someone's footsteps, who better than Christ?" This gets me every time. Every character is written carefully. Really well done. Quite sad that Nicole DeHuff (Debbie) died at age 30 of pneumonia though....
This movie pissed me tf off more than anything. Pam’s entire family were assholes and Pam was just so oblivious to everything and lacked a spine in so many instances in which she should have been defending Greg that it was infuriating. Meet the Fockers is much better imo.
Pam was a terrible partner. She set him up for failure and never took up for him. Everyone other than the mom was an miserable a-hole. All horrible people. That said, Greg should have told him "only one way to find out" when Deniro asked "Could you milk me?" That's the response.
I'd rather die than have a catheter inside my boy parts. It's my life mission to never have a catheter installed. I also will never check baggage either. All I need is a backpack, even if I'll be gone for a week or more!
5:00 - it is just different culture, but this seems rude to me. You are should introduce new person to the parents, not have him standing awkwardly by your side and wait as you catch up with your parents. Basic etiquette.
I laughed hardest when he spiked the volleyball into the sister's face. And was never angrier than when all those a-holes got mad at him about it. I hate this movie.
My cat by herself started using the toilet ..just one morning got up an she was standing on the seat with her back legs and front on the tank and just let it flow lol
I don't know I have never had a girlfriend where the father liked me or was nice to me for longer than the first 5 minutes! I was sleeping once over at her folks apartment and while I was sleeping my girlfriend came hugging my feet and she was just resting at my feet. Her father comes in and just lost it. They had a huge fight over that and her dad never treated me right after that! So I totally relate with Gaylord Focker.
I did that same thing to someone playing volleyball in high school. I spiked it hard into the face of some poor kid with a bad case of cystic acne. It popped all of the zits on one side of his face. A river of blood and pus poured down his face, onto his shirt. I felt really bad for him. That was pretty traumatic. 😬
its funny how some reactors like Mary Cherry blame Greg for everything and generally dislike him for his awkwardness, while others blame Deniro for his overboard takes on Greg but i agree with Cinebinge as Pam really puts Greg in bad situtations and failed to let him in on anything about her family.
This movie came out a year before 9/11, but still it was common knowledge you can't say bomb on a airplane. A friend of mine mom's said her little girl would announce her farts as "oops, another bomb went off", and she apparently was gassy at the airport.
There are so many things that are just WRONG in this movie 😂 It's just TOO much I would have been out of that house the second night lol Pam is like the dumbest Girlfriend ever, the Second Movie is just better.
Love this movie! My grandpa passed away a year or so before this movie came and Robert DeNiro characteristic as the dad is exactly like my grandpa. You fuck with my family ill mess you up attitude but super cool person overall lol
I have been lucky in the sense that all my girlfriends since high school (4 serious ones), the parents especially the mom has been very sweet and friendly, I did how ever get the threatening talk on the first date of one, but after getting to know him I understood that was just his humor. but I didnt tempt that 🤣🤣
