@@mathusoothananjeyakrishnan6018 Purutchi Thallaivi was tad arrogant in that interview. She wanted to be treated the way her party men treat her. Prostrating , singing her tune, not seeing her into eye etc.
I think it is safe to say that those who cannot express themselves in a manner as fluent and articulate as these two gentlemen, are likely to give them gaalis. I get it.
its not fair at all Danish. I, for example, am no where close to their level of vocabulary and articulation, however I am a huge fan of both of them. ST, for his amazing english, and KT, for his flawless questioning techniques!
It is a tribute to the British, than even after 7 decades of independence of our country, there are enough number of people with colonised mindsets who attribute fluency in English to being a better person. I get it.
@@subhasisghosh66 i believe the original comment mentioned nothing about english fluency but rather about fluency of expressing your thoughts in a particular well mannered way . This goes for speakers of any language .
@@den22378 There should be many more in our parliamentat like Mohua Moitra There should be translation facilities in parliament in a multiligual country and advice and training should be available to new parliamentarian
He’s a good speaker but may not have the ability to be a PM. In India, we misunderstand the difference between being intellectual and the ability to speak English. We think it’s one and the same which is not.
@Syed Mohammad We need many leaders dealing with many complex problems which ahve become worse over the past few years. We also have a large well trained bureaucracy that needs to direct its attention properly to thse problems. We should stop looking for messiahs but for a bunch of good leaders. Shashi Tharoor is one of them, so is Rahul, So is Mahua, Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, Yogendra Yadav, Yechury, Prashant Bushan all can play an important role in a new rational government--so are Didi and Amit Mitra her finance Minister, There are 100s of good PORGRESSIVE leaders who should be put to work TOGETHER for our great country TO DEAL WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS OF INEQUALITY AND DEVELOPMENT SO WE CAN MATCH CHINA IN THE NEXT 20 YEARS
Shashi's point of Bengali Multilingual family is very pertaining. Whole lot of Bengalis from Calcutta till 1970s spoke like Shashi.. Ray spoke in similar accent..
There's time to question and time to listen. Karan knows that very well and that's what makes him an effective interviewer, the best when it comes to conducting political interviews.
@@cosmiledsouza5372 Karan knows very well when to ask question but he's better at asking counter questions without letting the interviewee to answer fully.
What a great interview. I met Shashi at Delhi Airport once and had the privilege to shake hands with him. He is unique and brilliant. BJP can't have one politician like him in 100 years.
BJP does have speaker like him but they speak in Hindi more fluently then English. Current Foreign minister can speak English better and is fluent also
Normal person writes: "I changed the light bulb to LED to save energy and cost". Shashi writes: "I single-handedly managed the successful upgrade and deployment of new environmental illumination system with zero cost overruns and zero safety incidents". Just sayin' init 🤣
Wonderful.. absolutely correct...but I love the way he speaks.. it's a sort of classic British English which you'll get to read in books of writers like Charles Dickens..
The only interview where I have seen Karan holding himself back and listening to the guest speak. Apart from the vast vocabulary, Mr. Tharoor has above average skills to combine sentences effortlessly.
Hem Raj that ability comes because he has something to say. Because he has insights which are not narrow and hence making a sentence when you know the top is not that difficult. Plus he has and is a regular reader of quality stuff!
This is probably one of those rare times, when Thapar didn't intervene inbetween the answers because that's what he usually does. Don't discredit him haha.
What a wonderful Orator and how great to see two educated minds talking! This is how comfortable should one be on both sides of the table accepting and answering questions while not reducing the intriguing quality of the interviewer. Even if the answers are deceiving it’s still scintillating to listen!!!
Mr Karan , very excellent interview with Shashi Tharoor , one of a distinguish personality in the Indian Politics. All through his interview , he was very honest , transparent right from his childhood , his career with UN , Politics and with regard to his wife death Sunanda , where he was been accused , his transparency with investigation authorities etc, etc,. I believe , we must have more political leaders like him , who could represent India at UN and secure the UN general secretary post.
The interviewer is too much in love with his own voice, such a failure. The guest is such a distinguished and eloquent gentleman with lots to say. Great to hear the guest but really dislike this interviewer!
An absolutely wonderful and fascinating interview. Mr Karan Thapar could have been a little more patient on several occasions, allowing Mr Tharoor to complete his sentences. However, all said and done, an absorbing and engrossing interview. Thank you.
@Rajat Chatterjee Yes Rajat like Rhea killed SSR and so on. If you are part of the right wing mob yes please go ahead and believe conspiracy theorists. It was peddled by your favorites ARNAB and SWAMIJI....
As a english learner and fan of shashi tharoor's english it's a pleasure to see two brilliant & eloquent english speaker's.. I am not a congress supporter but i do not miss a single video of this man. He deserves PM candidature of Congress party atleast for now they can make him atleast President and leader of opposition in loksabha. He can do wonder's for congress party atleast a lot better than pappu and adhir chaudhary ( who even does not know what to speak in parliament).. Hope congress party will do this asap.
@@kumaratul609 He hasn't but he sure has given a speech there which broke the internet, infact he did even claim to never have used his British passport which he had from his birth
dr shahsi tharoor, mahua moitra and dr Manmohan singh are well respected politicians in pakistan despite our differences, a man across the border that i adore and look up to, such honest politicians are so hard to find in the world. a self made man! love from lahore
An amazing interview ...with two of the most admirable and unacknowledged hero's in India today ....love the way they have expressed themselves so fluently and articulately.....the views , the sentiments and the articulation ...pure intellectual stimulation ....so much needed especially in the present times....
It was a joke for god's sake, just trying to lighten up the mood. If Karan asked this question to any other politician in India, he would have been in the headlines for a week in every single news outlet. Karan only told this to Sashi because Sashi understands the humor. It was all in good fun.
Make this man the pm of India before it's too late. We're never gonna get such a man so soon again. He's absolutely class, rational, calm and god knows what else. This man's a legend!
PM needs many other virtues in addition. It does not matter what you speak ,but it matters how voluminous is your speech. Its a pity that, after so many years of independence ,we still measure one with his cadre of english speaking ability.
@@shivchatterjee6297 and what makes you think that this man's speaks no volume? I'm not his fan cuz he speaks English, I am because he talks sense and very knowledgeable.
I would have liked listening to Mr. Tharoor's complete answers. Only if, he wouldn't have been interrupted so much before completion. I understand there's a time-constraint, but it looks so impolite to me.
That's how interviewers should be. They are not there to give a platform to the interviewees to get their message out to their public. They are there to ask their questions. And also, I guess there was a time limit of an hour to complete the interview.
Thank you Mr.Thapar for bringing the most bright and beautiful personality Mr. Tharoor on public domain indiscriminately as how a Kerala origin has become an Indian National Party member ultimately though being' Briton' born in London & a versatile journey over in.
Congress will not be taken seriously by Indians until the Gandhi family's hold onto the power positions in the Party. Mr. Tharoor is a erudite candidate for the position of the Party president but It's in the conflict of Interest Of sonia, Rahul and Priyanka. Congress must get rid of its really irrational fear of inevitable Leadership crisis.
You're right, Shashi Tharoor should turn down the job rather than become another remote controlled PM like Dr Singh, or a puppet CM like Mr Sunil Joshi.
@USASocialMediaIsCensorTech NoGooglePlease Hahaha. DEMOCRATIC process. Like how Congress DEMOCRATICALLY won all these years. Just because people pretend to vote doesn't make something democratic.
@USASocialMediaIsCensorTech NoGooglePlease Oh yes. I WRITE IN BLOCK LETTERS SO I MUST BE RIGHT. And Congress has won more elections so they must be right. Such logic much wow.
This is one of the best interview done by Karan Thapar, in-depth, straight to the point with some hard-talk. No questions about eating mangoes or keeping a wallet. Journalism at its finest.
Now that I've seen Tharoor and Karan face to face speaking to each other, I realize how crisp and short Karan is at asking questions and talking while Tharoor sways here and there like he's a story teller.
To the concerned guys at The Wire, please make podcasts of these interviews and post it on Spotify or any such platforms which provides the facility...many people out there would love to listen such amazing interviews in the form of podcast cause it's convenient.
Awesome and Professional Interview. Every journalist and interviewee should learn from this interview. The journalist was spot on the agenda of getting the best out of Sashi Tharoor by using "Come Back" . Shashi Tharoor answered some tricky questions with ease . Overall a great interview. Salute the quality work of "The Wire" . How to reach the wire?

My prof used to always advise me to write short sentences but I couldn't help it, so I began to read shashi tharoor to get my long sentences grammatically correct.
Very flamboyant and learned politician. Dr. Tharoor is a simply sansation. A great potential for India and across the World. He must come in a big way. We need such learned people.
One of the most interesting interviews that I have come across! Relished every moment of the conversation. Honest and on point. Karan and Tharoor together make this a must watch.

"judge me by my performance" should be the attitude of every politician in the country. And the citizens too have to acquire the eye to judge them by their performance without seeking their (citizens') religious advancements...
Mr. Shashi Tharoor, you are an absolute delight. Charming, intelligent, captivating... This can be a long list. Wishing you happiness. Mr. Karan Thapar can be less abrasive. We would enjoy a pleasant conversation over trying to corner the interviewee.
I believe it was quite extravagant to discuss who Mr. Tharoor "slept with", even shameful. More so when this is his first interview as the upcoming Prime Ministrial candidate or the Presidential..!! Didnt expect this from you Mr. Thapar, even when he is your friend..!!
@@SuperRiya16 "Rebut", I am retty sure you mean it trivially dear girl. Brilliant interview. Why should "education should not be our only political safety, because outside of this ark, all is really deluge",? Mr. Tharoor speaking his mind out on a Karan Thapar interview on The Wire's channel.👍
@@walterwhite9520 Not for his English But for his Balanced Views Have you ever realized Why he was not made Parliamentary party leader in congress because he can overshadow any one. Also liked his books
Wonderful. It was a treat listening to two of India's finest minds. Mr Shashi Tharoor-the right man at the wrong place. I remember reading his opinion pieces in the late 70's/early 80's .
I recall one time Dr. Tharoor raising a point of the 'compentancy' of Indian Engineers in the Indian Parliament and gave a thorough explanation of the lack of quality and professionalism among most of the new generation Techies. So the query was directed at the union 'Education' minister, Pokhiriyal. While the listeners were spellbound by the articulation of Tharoor, the reply from the Union Minister was dismal, or ' cattle' class in all respects. I feel that the difference lies in the thought process of North and South Indians. While we southerners hardly feel any pride by possessing fake degrees (very few would opt for one) but in North, it's a totally different ball game, they presume fake degrees to be a matter of utter pride. Good examples are Smrithi Irani, (claiming even to be an Yale graduate) Pokriyaal and the present incumbent of the PM's chair. What a down grading of educational qualification from the great Nehru, the steady slide in education standards continued downwards to the level of the present entity. Proud to be a Malayaalee, Dr. Tharoor is an inspiration to many youngsters and his speeches are avidly followed by countless individuals....
@Peace and Love Well my friend, did Ms. Sonia ever claimed she's a degree holder from Cambridge university, UK in any of her sworn affidavit. I would like to know....
What an absolute delight of an interview, both personalities adding to the conversation their own flair and ideas that only comes with a life full of enriching experiences.
@Syed Mohammad Instead of repeating yourself here and there, learn to listen to what he said, and check to see if what he said about his duties and responsibilities and the junctures and contexts in which they happened are true or not. Cite some facts that you know that others might not, in support of your argument and demonstrate that his work was insipid. His electoral victories and work for his constituents can be checked too. Show that what he says is not true. Comment substantially on his parliamentary speeches. You have every right to do so. Discuss his actual track record as a minister of state, etc. Question his knowledge or interpretations of history. Don't just be judgmental, do justice to your judgement. Otherwise, your assertions are hollow and devoid of substance.
It is a great interview to listen to with such great inspirational personalities. We are encouraged by the global citizen citizen an Indian citizen and great patriot . One day we would see him taking the rein of India
