Circles is a tech start-up with an ambition to shake up the telecommunications industry - and an unconventional marketing strategy to match.
"For the longest time, the telco industry has been talking about the same challenge, but not doing much,” Circle co-founder and CEO Rameez Ansar told CNBC’s Marketing.Media.Money.
Based in Singapore, Circles was founded in 2014 with the goal of revolutionizing the customer experience. Its business is divided into two key units - a mobile network and a software-as-a-service department.
“We made people understand that if you want to transform an industry, it goes down to changing your entire way you think about your technology,” Ansar added.
Since its inception, the company’s tongue-in-cheek and sometimes provocative marketing campaigns have become synonymous with the brand.
“We cannot please everybody. If you're putting out something that has to please everyone, we'll only have vanilla in the world, and vanilla is a boring flavour,” said Ajay Sampath, the group head of brand and marketing for Circles.Life.

This company is dead. Is not really disrupting. Is a marketing gimmick. Kudos on the flexible contract but singtel is able to roll out Gomo, Gomo can tab to singtel network converage while circles only can tap to M1 via MVNO meaning the network that circle is leased and they have no control on the network which means the customer will suffer in coverage. So circles are going circles and will be dead in 10 years.

Your comment reminded me of when I tried to switch to Circles (back in around 2016 or so) but got caught up in some kind of bait-and-switch campaign where they tried to make me sign up for a plan that cost more than the plan they advertised, and so I stayed with M1.

The fact that Circles can force Singtel to be innovative to compete is, on itself, market disruption. But then as the big boys already notice and catching up, circles have to run much faster

'You get charged a 100$ and not know what you are paying for? You stand in a line to pay your bills?' What year are you living in ..2007? Who are you trying to fool.

Circles sucks. Too focused on marketing instead of improving their network. It is not disruptive at all. People realise that you get what you pay for. Sign up is easy but whenever you wish to terminate a line, they will ask you a lot of questions as if you owe them explanations for wanting to exit.

At 10:00 there is literally a post that say "Do not get a plan from this provider"

Sounds like a load of hot air (esp from that one guy)- as a consumer, who cares about the marketing or branding of my telco? We all just want the best rates with quality service. Agree tech helps with that, and at the start it was the most competitively priced in the market and thats what led to its growth then. Now its no longer the case, there are other more attractive offers and i ported out of them for that very reason. Imagine the cost savings they could have passed on to the consumer if they didnt spend so much on marketing. The fact that they still kept emphasising on that shows they arent self aware and id be surprised if they are around in the next 10 years on the same strategy

This telco service standard is really subpar. All marketing gimmicks since inception but nowadays it’s going nowhere with its gimmicks. Predictably it’s gg be going concern soon

Circles did have a great and innovative start. Since then, there have been many similar competitors. Meanwhile, I don't think Circles has managed to keep up. Their choice of network provider, M1, really doesn't help. From my experience, M1's network coverage and quality are the worst in Singapore. I really want to see Circles make a comeback, but I don't know of anyone in my "circles" who use them.

brilliant marketing doesnt mean excellent customer experience (network). if they want to further disrupt as an MVNO, then got to switch to other telcos' network first! haven't heard much of them for a while as well.....or are they marketing overseas instead?

15 minutes and zero innovation. How much did circles pay for this interview?

can't see any revolutionary move from the customer point of view. also the video was more of a marketing using generic sentences.

As of 2024, the disruptors in Singapore are Simba and Eight. Circles Life is rather irrelevant now. What an old news from a renounced media!

If this is a grift then it certainly looks like it. Did the company have any Forbes30under30 by any chance as this is a certain sign of fraud?
