@Diane C, you wrote the exact words I would have said. My sister was a Diane C for Carpenter, 2 yrs 2 days younger than me. She passed 5 yrs ago. I have been married 47 yrs also. It is so gratifying and heart warming to read about your long term relationships. Thank you for sharing that. Does my heart good. I am single and have been for 95% of my adult life. I am in my mid 60s but I still believe in marriage and love. I have learned to be and am truly content in my singleness but wouldn’t rule out that possibility for me even at this late stage in life. Thanks so much for this video! 💚 I'm from Spain and, like your grandma, I was severly abused as a kid. I'm now 38 and C-PTSD still affects my daily life in some degree. My parents died almost 3 years ago, at the beginning of the pandemic, from covid, and since then I've been speaking up a bit about my childhood with the hope I can help others a bit. I think of the kids and teenagers who are, sadly, currently going through the same horror I went through. And then I imagine how much it would have helped me, as a teenager, to hear somone older than me talking about how their future life is totally worth it, in spite of all the pain they went through as kids. And I want to speak up, hoping I can be that person to teenagers who may read what I write. However, I sometimes wonder whether I'm being a "bad person" for speaking ill of my parents (even though they kind of deserve it) and I have doubts about what I'm doing... But listening to your grandma talking in this video has made me realize it's okay. It's so refreshing to see someone from an older generation speak up unapologetically about what they went through as kids. And it helps me tremendously. I feel better about what I'm doing. Because now I know I can really help younger people. Thank you so, so much. By the way, your grandma is an amazing, strong, badass woman for breaking the cycle of abuse like that! It is NOT easy. She has my deepest respect. 💚🙏 💚🙏

My family, my Mom and Dad, brother and his family, sister and her family all live too far away for us to get to visit much. And now, my Sister and my Mom are no longer living. I miss them a lot.

Having footage of your family is such a valuable thing. My grandmother (I called her my Neena) died unexpectedly almost two years ago and I desperately wished I had some kind of video of her where I asked her about her childhood, advice, etc. I always thought about making a video like that, but never got around to it.

Paola, some professionals think that trauma can be imprinted on our DNA and passed down. Some say the trauma of slavery is passed down genetically. I had an abusive mother (physical, verbal and psychological). I have had to work hard at resolving some issues and early on in my parenting, started to model my mom’s behavior for which I feel very Guilty. My daughter got therapy and thankfully broke the cycle.

I came from an abusive background with my mother as well, just like your abuela, and I made the same decision to break the pattern of my mother and raise my children in a loving home. I have no contact with my mother for emotional safety reasons for myself and my daughters, and it was the best decision I ever made. My children are thriving in school, are well behaved and respectful, and have a completely different life from how I grew up. This is completely by choice and was very difficult. Good on you Abuela

Firstly, what a privilege and blessing to still have your mom and grandmother around. Treasure them and their childhood stories. Secondly, Luke reminds me so much of my late husband. I walked with my head in the clouds...but my late husband kept me grounded. He understood me like no one else and loved me unconditionally. I think you and Luke make a beautiful couple. Stay strong.
