While Wolfie is a beautiful dog, it's untrue that he's a "purebred" Chow Chow. As you said, "down the line somewhere, the merle gene got introduced to his bloodline". The merle gene is not found naturally in the Chow Chow breed. It was introduced by cross breeding with a breed that carries this gene, such as Collies, Shelties, Australia Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs or other breeds, thus making your dog not a purebred. It's a huge disservice to spread misinformation about the Chow Chow breed by falsly claiming your dog is purebred. Claiming that the merle coloration is "rare" in Chow Chows is nothing but a scam for dishonest backyard breeders to exploit and swindle money from misinformed and uneducated people!
