You’ve driven all 3 of the 1990’s Holy Trinity! The CLK GTR in Bahrain, The 911 GT1 in Zuffenhausen and now McLaren F1 GTR Chassis 11R! What is your favorite of the 3 Tim?
@@Shmee150 Wooaw, woaaaw !!! Congratulations Tim for fulfilling your absolute dream & massive tanks for sharing all that with us your viewers !!! Special tanks for all those who made your dream possible as well massive respects to lend you that F1 - GTR to drive on rural narrow roads along farming tractors and lorries..
I would like to expand upon what was said regarding the record: McLaren F1 held the record for the fastest production car for 11 years, from 1994 to 2005. In fact, it's still the fastest naturally-aspirated car in the world.
@@shanescarlifelmao in 5 years this car will probably go up another $20 mil. Mclaren just needs to remake this car once every ten years updated with new performance and tech
The first hyper car to exceed a million dollars, and literal race car built for the street that wasn't even street legal for the US until lame bumber mods were made (of which all owner did away with)! Back in high school (mid-90's) this was The Car everyone drooled over. And talk about aging well. Still looks better than 99.9% of everything that superceded it. That raw, all motor legendary BMW v12 has to be a symphony of awesomeness to dance to while driving. How privileged you are, Shmee
Those round tail lights were taken from an Iveco van. Same was used on the Lamborghini Diablo and maybe also on the first ever Pagani. Because it was almost impossible for small manufacturers to get road legal lights built especially for them back then. So they had to use things that were already approved on other cars.
This claim has been repeated as nauseam, but remains untrue. The lamps were not taken from a truck or a bus. The lights came from the catalog of Italian industrial lighting supplier, COBO SpA. Yes, they were used by Ivecco for trucks and the Dutch company BOVA on their buses, but those companies just happened to purchase the lamps from the same catalog that McLaren and Lamborghini sourced them from, along with many others.
Another fun fact is the butterfly door openings were inspired directly from Toyota Sera and the first car of Gordon Murray had rear-view side mirrors mounted on A-pillars..
I’m 38, and like you, have always held the F1 at the top of the tree. Had tears for you! What an amazing day and experience for you. Congratulations Tim 🎉 Great video! Thank you 🙏 for sharing as you have done for 15 yrs! Thank you for the great content, and the hard work. Fabulous!! Please continue the great work you do.
Even if he sold all his cars he would fall very far short of the required money to own and run a Mclaren F1. I believe the standard road cars sell for around £16million minimum an upwards depending on which car and condition. Then you have to insure it a £16-£20 million is NOT cheap to insure. Then you have pay for maintenance also not cheap. Everything is custom so if something needs replacing it is a huge bill. Fuel tank has to be replaced every 5 years I think and so on. Sadly the F1 is beyond mere mortals even moderately wealthy ones like Tim.
It’s amazing how this video comes out just before the McLaren W1 reveal! Coincidence? I think not :). I enjoy your videos Shmee150. Respect from Greece and Bulgaria 🔥
Damn, this one brought a tear to my eye, thank you for bringing us along for this amazing experience. It was truly incredible to just watch along, let alone experience it, I can't imagine what it might be like. You deserve all of this moment and much more for the dedication to providing us with amazing content all these years, thank you again!
Just when I thought you couldn't outdo yourself you come out with this peach if a video...i cant wait for you to drive the T50 and T33 and see how these compare...Thanks for the content over the years
This is why we love what you do, and watch your channel, the absolute passion you have! We will never get to drive most of these cars, but through you we almost can. Thanks Tim, this one bought tears to my eyes 👌
F1 must be really incredible, but from what I talked about a few years ago at Salon Privé with some owners, the car has more marketing than real performance, according to them, it's terrible at high speed, it only works in a straight line, very unstable, terrible on high-speed brakes, that its fame of having won Le Mans was purely helped by BOP, and if you look at championships with fewer restrictions at the time, F1 doesn't come close to the performance of cars like the F40 LM, XJ220 LM, CLK LM... Great content as always!! This orange is perfect on this car!
I can’t help but be curious, did the GTRs come with the Lenovo dinosaur computer and router they used to run diagnostics on the road cars back in the 90s too? Lol
It was a Compaq - and a very good chance the teams each had one in their kit. About 8 years ago McLaren developed a modern virtual machine solution that eliminated that necessity though.
1 - Holy shit are you a lucky man 2 - Holy shit what an incredible machine 3 - Holy shit imagine what would happen if you had wrecked it 4 - You are the man Shmee, I'd have the same amount of emotion even being around one of these. I've never even seen one in person in my whole life and I'm a hardcore car guy. CHEEEEE-HEEEE-HEEEEEERS
Nothing can beat this? Well Puppi's dreams of a wedding or being proposed too just evaporated. Having a baby too. Wow Tim. You need to clarify that.....nothing automotive can top this.
now it's time to drive the 911GT1, McLaren F1 and CLK GTR back to back XD But this was amazing to watch and I'm happy you finally got to drive it, but it would be nice to hear how you experienced the 3 cars in comparison to each other. Cheers from Denmark :3
The LM is by far one of my favorite cars ever. I played with the F1 in every NFS up until NFS High Stakes came out and had the LM in it. I immediately fall in love. My cousin loved the CLK GTR... we would race for hours. Thanks to that car, I am a huge McLaren fan.
I was 14 years old when I saw that example at Gothenburg Motor Show in 2004. It was my absolute dream car since playing Need For Speed 2. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. And next to it was F1 GTR Longtail 023R! The owner also owned a green road car. I have some Swedish car magazines with test drives of these cars. The orange GTR was also in a Swedish car TV show called ”Prestanda”, Swedish for performance.
My god.. not only is he driving an F1 for the first time. Its a GTR... In Papaya Orange... With racing pedigree (and a Mercedes mule pedigree 🤫)... And he got to actually push it on great, scenic roads. Hats off. Good for you man.
I won a trip to the McLaren tech centre a few years back through a Vodafone competition and the Le Mans wining F1 car in the Ueno Clinic livery was there, which is my all time favourite car, I was happy just to touch it, you lucky bugger :)
Gordon Murray doesn't seem like the kind of man that would rest on his reputation and just call a project "good enough", so i'm betting the GMA T50 is ridiculously good as well.
Footprint of the F1 is the same as the original Porsche Boxster. They’re tiny. The Harrods liveried car was owned by David Clarke who was the sales director for McLaren when they made the F1.
dony get me wrong, F1 is my hero car, but if it was targa would be better, just like the renders... someone should do a Homage of the F1 but in targa config and doing better some things, like a better sound sistem, even lighter because why not? kkkkk better engine, and it would be perfect almost... but i bet it is not like all that peaple say, it is a car in the end of the day, i really don't think things like a 718 spyder manual, mazda miata, and many other cars, wouldn't keep up in levels of fun. a thing like a civic ek9 ctr is extremely fun to drive, a old porche 911 also, singer, etc... there are many fun cars, the f1 is cool just because of the history and story telling that was passed to us through media, games, reviews etc... a simple exemple of this is the supra, to my generation, gen Z kkkkk the supra is much cooler than a f1 for many folks out there, but in stock form the car is nothing... a e36 m3 is much better, but just the supra is cool.
The F1 is my joint favourite car , it was my favourite until a certain Mr Murray designed the T50 , he said he kept all the things he liked about the F1 and ditched the things he didn't for the T50 , he loves everything about the T50 which means it is better , I had a conversation at an NEC motor show, with Tiff Needell about the F1 , I asked him what the acceleration actually felt like , he said ' it doesn't accelerate , it explodes ' , I think that sums it up
For the 1st time ever in your RU-vid career, I’m jealous. After everything you’ve done and experienced over the years. This is the one thing I’d love to do. Have an opportunity to drive an F1. Well done mate.
Congrats Tim!! Been watching since 2016 and to see the emotion you experience after so many cars makes me so happy. So many RU-vid videos feel fake or forced but the raw joy of driving the greatest car of all time is amazing! Thanks for all the great content!
I have never been emotional watching any of your videos before Tim , but the I loved the way you conveyed your feelings about the pure joy of driving this very very special car, many many thanks. Such an amazing car and video 👍
I can't imagine if the current F1 GTR owner is like Tim, driving this dreamy F1 on the street every day. If you have money, I don't know if you can buy it.
The most famous Car - RU-vidr driving the most famous and iconic Supercar, finally. About time. This is a big milestone for your channel, career and life, Tim. Congrats !
Tim, followed you for years & really hope i can see you on the UK roads to give you a thumbs up but at the end of this video my cheeks were aching from smiling...Awesome
Headlights, taillights, and side mirrors are leftover junk, according to Gordon, but everything else is pure legend. Always found it interesting the exhaust cost more than the engine. It's one of the few cars that will almost always outperform the driver.
I don't know you personally, a lot of us don't, but in a way I feel proud of you. Having followed you on here for so many years and see you go from strength to strength. You earned this experience and thank you for sharing it with us! Love live one of the all time greats, the Mclaren F1! 🧡
I really wasn't expecting to have tears in my eyes wathcing a Shmee video. The F1 is nothing short of a legendary car. So happy you got to drive one Tim. The respect and appreciation you showed for the car was top-notch.
Imagine being the dude driving the van at 11:20... just minding his own business, driving down the country lane like usual... then suddenly you are met with perhaps the most legendary car ever produced. How do you even continue your day after that?
Well deserved! I get goosebumps hearing the sound from the inside and remember watching your first videos of the F1 more than 10 years ago. Time flies!
