Look at his eyes. When a person says something that comes from a pure soul and which is absolute truth, you can observe the intensity, the emotion reflect from his eyes
Just came across this today, somehow. Thank you so much for the upload. A true artist (and human) like Tarkovsky will always help you find your inner centre when you feel you've lost your way.
i can understand why directors dont take questions from the country other than his own and expecially at the cold war time. people are mean and education dont necessarily make them better. i hope what tarkovsky answered give the reporters a better understanding of his films.
Thanks for a great video. As I see, these English subtitles was translated from Italian, so, it's good, but I could create English subtitles right from Andrey's Russian speech(cause I'm a native speaker), and, by my opinion, it would be better and more in depth. So, if someone interesting in it, just write it down at my comment's thread below.

Thanks for sharing.
Producers with lots of interest and lots of money are hard to find. That's the biggest problem faced by director's like him at that time and this is the case now. It's so hard to make everyone happy and to make an artistic valued movie.
Tarkovsky, Kubrick, Bergman, Fellini... Unfortunately, such geniuses are not needed in modern cinema, which is based solely on financial profit and pop culture.
@@taks359 I haven’t been pleased with recent years of cinema either but I do wonder, how many “bad” films came out in the past that just get forgotten in place of these masterpiece films. It makes me think that in the future maybe we’ll look back on now and only really remember the great films to come out. It seems to happen in music and I’m relatively new to film so maybe it won’t be the case but I think it’s a possibility. There’s still some fantastic pieces of art being released, it just feels harder to find through all the corporate slop
@@spiderjeff5845 directors like Kubrick, Tarkovsky or Fellini won't find the money to their movies nowadays. No one would put the money on these kind of movies. People now, almost only want " entertainment ". Umberto eco, an italian writer call this, the " comforting fiction ". You are passive, the movie come to you, and they are only made to comfort you. They don't give you a sense of understanding, or very little. This writer, says the complete opposite is the " problematic fiction ". You are active, you have to do an effort. It's the cinema of directors like Kubrick, Fellini, Tarkovsky, Kurosawa, Jacques Tati, Bresson, Sydney Lumet... Like its name, it's gonna create a problem to the audience in his/her vision of the world and human. This kind of cinema is dead. Once in a while you can see one but it's so rare.
This man is one of the supreme artists of cinema. But his argument concerning black and white vs. color film making reminds me of the argument that broke out between the opposing groups of the Poussinists and Rubenists during the Baroque age of painting which argued that line was more important than color in painting and vice versa. Is the head more important than the heart? I think you need both. I'm sure others will disagree because this duality that humanity carries with it usually causes us to align with one faction over the other. Still, beauty and depth can and does lie in all forms of art when you accept it for what it is and not for what you want it to be.
Dear friends, thank you very much for your attention to the work of the genius russian film director Andrei A. Music by the Greatest Johann Sebastian Bach - His f. minor horal prelude in processing of the famous russian composer Adward Artemiev - in the movie "Solaris" by the Master Director Andrei Tarkovsky
I cannot be completely sure, but I believe that it was a meeting with Tarkovski at the University Tor Vergata in Rome , in the winter 83/84. I had opportunity to see him there, It was after he left Russia and after he made Nostalghia in Italy
Here is a very good Italian documentary film about Andrei Tarkovsky, named "The Poet in Cinema" made of 1983 year by the film director Donatella Baglivo
Saludos
