Meeting Athena - Welcoming Our New Maremma Sheepdog Puppy 

We knew that predators roamed the coastal parks and open land, but we never expected them to venture so near our little urban farm. We want wildlife to thrive, just not on OUR animals! Keep them away Athena!

I've been doing my research as well and have decided this is the breed I want for my small homestead. Athena is beautiful and I'm sure you made the right decision.

My goodness, what a cute fluffy puppy! Her demeanor is wonderful. 2 yr old video when I came X it, I'm sure Athena became a wonderful dog and you have no coyote problems with her on duty. I was extremely lucky to find a 2yo Maremma sheepdog that needed a new home badly. Her family had been trying to rehome her for exactly 1 year when I came X the post on a FACEBOOK group here in Spokane WA. She was a Covid puppy and they did not get to socialize her, so she is extremely unfriendly to people she does not know. Nobody wanted her . She bit me a few times with a muzzle on the first day I went to see her. Just a pinch was all she could get of me. I could see she loved her family and I commend them for hanging on to her until a proper home could be found. She would have been put down had they turned her into the Animal Control. She would not of handled the kennel situation at all. Her owner put her into a big kennel I built for her. I was not sure she would adjust and she was a big fierce dog. She could easily have wrecked havoc on me. A lonely night in the kennel , the next morning, my man had flown in later in the day. He went out to try to make friends. She wasn't having it! So he prepared a do or die "let's get acquainted " kit. I had left to work at 4am. He opened the gate, she came with teeth and claws , hard at him. He met her with a riding boot mid air, knocked her down, threw her blanket over her, got a 30 ft horse training snapped on and a loop around her neck. By the time I got home at 1pm he had her "broke to ride " as it were. She raised hell at me, he said "Lacie NO!" She left off me and ran back to him , looked up with eyes that said "yes Master" . She has been our dog ever since. Her job is to guard the place, and she is very effective. If you are not family, you don't want to come in my yard. She has the run of the place, an acre. Dog door to the house. Horses out back and 3 cats. One is now her best friend, the other 2 are not the "dog whisperer " that Gizmo is, but Lacie is not actively trying to kill them anymore either. I had never heard of this breed, and I'm a dog nut. I feel very fortunate to have spotted her picture. Lucky for her too. Her family had to move into an apartment and she could not go there. I'm very impressed with this breed. Very.

Congratulations! Athena is beautiful. An Italian tells you that he was moved when the puppy was entrusted to you and you introduced her into your home. We lived the same day just over a year ago when Igor arrived in our house (from the house cats his arrival was not at all welcome, in fact he was chased and scratched and gave a yelp of pain). Now, despite the almost 50 kg of weight, he stays close to my feet while I'm at the computer. It is a dog that will win you over and take your heart away. I wish you much happiness together.

I got my maremma sheepdog 2 months ago and she is a handful! but I couldn't have asked for a better dog, she is so loyal and sweet :)

What a well behaved puppy. Did not fight you when gave her the shower. Also the micro chipping did not get her upset at all.

We go to pick out our Maremma puppy tonight. This has been very helpful thank you. We live on a 400 acre farm but we do not have any livestock anymore. Who knows? We may end up getting chickens!
