My uncle retired several years ago and bought a farm in an Amish community near Chambersburg, PA. He was a gruff, hard drinking, swearing (every other word), non-religious construction contractor from NYC. He was single but frequently brought in various women from the NY area for weekend trysts. So he was everything the Amish were not, but they embraced and accepted into their community. After a heart attack, they took care of him like he was family. They brought him breakfast, lunch and dinner, washed his clothes and cleaned his house, and everything required on a small farm, and did it all as if he were an Amish family member. Oh, and one other thing, these people were by average American standards quite affluent, even wealthy. They have my respect and admiration -the Amish I met were wonderful people in every respect.

America is so incredibly diverse - when people say "Americans believe this" or "wow that's so American" it's honestly usually a silly generalization. I switched tv on one morning and a preacher on tv said "Jesus loves you" I said " ok if you're up there, then gave a list of things I needed to get our of the scene. Within a month I had all I asked for and was miraculously delivered from herion addiction. I went on to marry, 4 children. It was tough at times to overcome fear and turn it to faith but you get through it. Now I live in the peace of God. One thing though I've not met many born-again Christians who really stick together. People with integrity, a good heart that helps no matter what so I just loved watching this video. It showed me as Jesus said " unless you are born again you cannot enter the kingdom of God " but being born-again you need to do right by eachother, you have to have the whole package. Most of the Amish and Mennonites in Pinecraft are just there for vacation. Some of the elderly ones who are retired do live there year round and some are there maybe half the year. During the summer months, Pinecraft is a ghost town.

This is part of what America is lacking. Strong communities, a life with purpose, helping one another, a common goal. This ultimately is why faith in God is so important.

@@joshlete If you are not born into the Amish or ultraorthodox jewish communities and you have to live in modern society (without moral rules and the belief in God) you´re living isolated and helpless (state authority versus the authority of god and a helping likeminded community). When I was a kid, my parents would take me to Lancaster County, PA every summer. Coming from an urban area, the large Amish community there truly fascinated me. I looked forward to those trips all year. We’d always go to the Amish markets & buy homemade apple butter & Buckeyes. Great memories. I really enjoyed your video.
