I love how one of the Master's voices is Jim Cummings, the voice of Winnie the Pooh. That just makes it so much better, knowing a part of the most feared antagonist in the franchise is part fluff-stuffed pooh bear.

"They must accept our peaceful ways! BY FORCE!!" - Basically the Master

I've heard a lot about The Master from playing New Vegas and other fallout games a ton, but I always assumed he was a supermutant like the others....not..that. Wow, amazing character, and surprising.

I always get a kick out of the fact that the Master is voiced by Winnie the Pooh. It makes me think the Unity is really an elaborate plot to get pots of honey from the Wasteland.

If you go for the Master first and don't kill Lou, the Master will question him about claims of infertility, and Lou will deny it, because he was keeping this revelation a secret from his Master...which, incidentally, is another flaw in the Master's vision...the masses will find a way to separate themselves, no matter what. Also, the mutants did indeed bring the warhead to the vault, but feared using it...except, of course, as a last resort.

So many instances of "you can't get the canonical ending due to cut quests."

It kinda makes me sad when I think of the fact that Harold will never know what became of Richard Grey and how he died,at least let SOMEONE from California tell Harold the story of Grey and his tragedy because in my eyes Harold never got to say goodbye to Grey as a good friend should have.

I remember the complete shock I experienced the first time I encountered The Master. His absolutely grotesque visage and his many voices... completely unlike any character in anything I had encountered up to that point. Then, the fact he was actually reasonable and smart to boot! Not a complete zealot! But, I didn’t find out about his reasonable side until later as the first time I saw him was while watching my brother playing his game save. We would watch each other play to see what might be possible, bounce off ideas, things to try, etc. His character was a brute just above moron intelligence. A grunt built for strength and fighting, while my character was more agile and smart, using stealth, science, and repair most of the time. When he got to the Master, both of us flipped out and our reaction was “KILL IT!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!” Thankfully with that out of our systems, it allowed me to explore other possible ways of approaching The Master without total panic overtaking me like how we both reacted the first time. Fallout was the first game that I ever played that had more than one way to “beat” the game, let alone introduce the concept that you don’t need to even attack the “final boss” in the game in order to win!

The ending where you kill Jacoren happens automatically with the bloody mess perk or if you kill too many good karma characters and children. You basically throw everything you've done for the vault away by killing him in a bout of unchecked emotional rage. That shit had me so shook. Just shows what the horrors of the Fallout world can do to a character when everyone you see dies brutally or if you become a murderous psychopath.

Man whoever designed the Master deserves a raise, even though they're not at interplay anymore. He's just so badass. I love just listening to his voices.

The Master is without a doubt the best villain in the whole Fallout franchise.

Wow. I completely missed that psi-defence thingie and just bulled my way through the corridor, trusting that i will survive because i had more hp than god and a truckload of stimpacks.

Vault Dweller: "Your race will die out after this generation" Todd Howard after releasing Fallout 4: "Who's laughing now?"

After I beat Fallout 1, I used a cheat device to make a unique build that I'm almost certain others have done before. I made an unarmed character named Kenshiro. Strength 10, Perception 9, Endurance 10, Charisma 3, Intelligence 5, Agility 10, and Luck 5. Tag in unarmed, survival, and the 3rd one doesn't matter. Wear a leather jacket only and don't use any weapons, it's a hell of a fun playthrough to melee the wasteland to death. Easy, but fun. Props to you if you get the reference.

It’s really weird how all the canonical endings are the ones that were cut from the game

It's really fascinating that the Master, despite his appearance, is actually the least monstrous antagonist in the series

To defeat the master with the autopsy holotape you need to have a hight intelligence or it doesn't work. Just before meeting the master and before meeting vree in the brotherhood you should quicksave and take a mentat unless your intelligence is too low.

My daughter surreptitiously listened to yesterday’s episode in the car and woke up today to ask me “Mom, what do you think is going to happen to Oxhorn tomorrow when he meets the Master?” and was authentically worried. Luckily she got to find out today instead and was reassured that you survived to live another day, with Dogmeat.

Funny how this implies the master never once consulted a single female mutant until that point after making them for decades is peak lol.

Why not use humans as breeding machines and convert them to mutants when needed?

Fallout 1&2 had a unique ambiance that BGS never really grasped. Thanks for this playthrough, Oxhorn, and good luck with Fallout 2. That's a much bigger piece to swallow.

the Master is such a GOOD and DYNAMIC villain and he’s so well written. after i played this i read all about him on the wiki and it was incredibly heart wrenching

Oxhorn do you think the "psychic" kid in new Vegas was affected by fev and his crown like thing is a nullifier?

I wouldn't say the Master is completely evil, I think he just lost touch with his humanity. I would go so far as to say he's an anti-hero, someone who does bad things for a good cause (matter of perspective). He believes he is genuinely saving the human race by turning them into super mutants. If he was so evil I don't think he'd kill himself after learning his super mutants are infertile, he can't face the fact that all his efforts were for nothing and would rather die than continue a fools quest. I think his story is quite a tragic one.

With the best villains, there's always a moment when you find yourself thinking, "You know, dude's got a point." The Master was the first to take me to that moment. Later there was Eden, and Caesar. But first there was the Master.

But we know that the Overseers plan to isolate the Vault and exile you fails, as a bunch of Vault Dwellers catch up to him/her and they go and found Auroyyo (sorry about the spelling).

If you have the bloody mess trait after talking to the overseerer your character takes out a ten mil and automatically shoots him.

You should play FO2 with the restoration mod that restores a lot of cut content.

You know, I didn't realize it until now - but the whole "One People, One Race" speech is almost a direct translation of some of Hitler's speeches. It doesn't cheapen the experience. It only makes it creepier.

Thank you so much for making this series! Amazon has now taken on the job of creating a fall out TV series. And they have actually started filming where I live. So that is why I have been so interested in finding out what the fallout franchise was all about. And thanks to your videos I have a newfound respect for this franchise. Now onto your fall out 2 video series!

I love Fallout 1. It was my first real RPG (I had played mostly adventure and action games up till that time) I love the story. It is so deep and so rich it puts a lot of modern RPGs to shame. Actually it puts almost all of them to shame. (The Witcher series being an exception) One reason for this was the depth of dialogue which is simply too cost prohibitive for games where every character is voiced. Because a lot of the time dialog is either not unique, or is a generic line. In New Vegas I got so tired of listening to "The NCR took Nelson, maybe they can win this war" I wanted to go camp in a Cazador nest just so I wouldn't have to hear it. Seriously, they're all saying the exact same words with the same exact toneless inflection. I love New Vegas, but, I got really really really tired of that sort of thing. And its not limited to New Vegas. Another thing I loved about Fallout 1 was that you could find clues to the main quest(s) all over the wasteland. Almost every place you visit had information pertaining to it. This kept the main storyline alive. I have a real problem with a lot of modern RPGs trying to care about the main quest(s). Either the devs make the world too damned big and everything becomes a fetch quest, or the main quest just isn't interesting enough to hold my attention. Devs really need to go back to Fallout 1&2 and look at their quest structure. Fallout's world wasn't that huge (in number of locations) but, was very deep. These guys knew how to design a quest and keep you on track without keeping the player on rails.

Besides the Fallout Fixit patch for Fallout, their is also a patch for Fallout 2. The Steam and GOG versions nowadays have changed a lot of things in both games. In Fallout 2 in a certain town, their is supposed to be children who can pick pocket you. In the Steam and GOG versions currently, the children are not visible but you will see their text and be pick pocketed possibly. The Fallout 2 patch at No Mutants Allowed fixes this and many other issues. I don't remember the name of the patch but it's not hard to find. I believe the changes to children, attacking children and thus becoming a child killer if you kill enough, came after Bethesda bought the IP and reintroduced them back on Steam and GOG.

I know you’ll never read this because this video is 5 years old, but I HAVE TO say this. You are a legend. The Fallout Prime series led me to dive back into the fallout games, but I never had the pleasure of playing Fallout 1 or 2 because I’m a console guy. I tried to find a decent play through to watch. What I came upon is you. This series BLEW MY MIND. I love how deep you get into this game. I love the way you explore all the possibilities. I love the way you read through all of the text with a little flair for acting. I love the way you add commentary to recount how certain parts of the story relate to other parts of the story. It’s a masterful presentation you put together. Thank you times a million. I subscribed to your channel and I’ll be checking out your patreon as soon as I have a couple more bills paid off. I’m about to dive into the second game. Thank you again.

the master is somewhat right,on one part he says as long there are differnces we will tear each other apart, i forshadows the rest of the fallout games, like ghoals,synths and mutants and even racists humans, even the wars with the facts in new vegas and fallout 4

What a great series! You really did a fantastic job of bringing the origin story of our favorite post apocalyptic world to life. By doing so, you helped to bring unity to new and old generations of Fallout fans. Oxhorn is truly the master of story telling!

Oxhorn knows how to keep you coming back. And he dose it better the any show on AMC.

The master is one of the cooler villians in video games. The collection of voices of the people he's assimilated is just so ominous and well done.

I need to thank you for this. I *badly* messed up my playthrough by trying to take on the Cathedral too early. I was able to kill Morpheus, but my companions kept dying to the Nightkin, so I reloaded saves and ran away. When I leveled up and returned, Morpheus' body had disappeared and it was impossible to find the black key. I heard that the door can be opened in other ways, but after hours if trying I eventually gave up. I could have started from the beginning, but it frustrates me immensely to feel like I'm redoing work I've already completed. It's a shame I couldn't finish this story on my own. But I'm glad you were here to help me see what I missed. I have a newfound respect and admiration for the Fallout series.

Fallout 2?

I just realized the Master's motives and methods are pretty similar to that of Mithos from Tales of Symphonia. How they came to their conclusions are different, but the results of their insanity is the same.

I just finished watching all of these videos and I thought they were uploaded a year ago. I can not believe they are from up 2 weeks ago! Thanks for doing this in behalf of all the fallout fans I know!

Still my two most favorite games of all time. Another neat one is Arcanum. The base system is very similar to that of the original Fallout games, but with a Steampunk/fantasy story behind it and made by many of the people behind Fallout. It was a buggy mess, as well as having a few gameplay issues, but most of that has been fixed by the community. Great game, worth a look. It was what I played while we were all waiting for what was to be Fallout 3(The Van Buren one, not Bethesda's version.) to be released.

Leave it to the Obsidian crew (though they did not go by that name at the time) to create the best Fallout villain and one of the best villains in video game history. The Master rocks, compelling and with great depth and creepy and hideous at the same time.

I finished my Fallout playthrough for the very first time today. Your videos have shown me so much more than what I thought!! I can't tell you how dumb I feel, I WAS STRUGGLING SO HARD and you just knock it out of the park. I have to say this is by far one of the most interesting games I've ever played. The lore is so fascinating!! I would of never completed this game without internet.

This games still holds up

What a ride this was, even finished at least 5-6 times before, I realised I missed so many details. Well Fallout 2 here i come :)

I loved this. I watched the entire playlist for days while on break at work and compelled me. I have all Fallout games but couldn’t play Fallout 1 and 2 as I didn’t know what I needed to do but now I actually can, all because of these videos. I can’t wait for Fallout 2.

Your videos are, as always, such a delight! I have enjoyed watching the fallout roots grow and spread out (couldn’t resist the pun) so narratively. I particularly enjoy the canon references you’ve made, creating a deeper appreciation of the context for me. Thank you, Oxhorn, for the great series and your continually high-quality body of work.
