Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal Megs and relentless environmental plunderers, our heroes must outrun, outsmart, and outswim their merciless predators in a pulse-pounding race against time. Immerse yourself in the most electrifying cinematic experience of the year with “Meg 2: The Trench” - where the depths of the ocean are matched only by the heights of sheer, unstoppable excitement!

“Meg 2: The Trench” is directed by Ben Wheatley (“In the Earth,” “Free Fire”), from a screenplay by Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber (“The Meg,” “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”) and Dean Georgaris (“The Meg,” “Lara Croft: Toom Raider - The Cradle of Life”), and a screen story by Dean Georgaris and Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber, based on the novel The Trench by Steve Alten. Bennett Walsh, Erik Howsam, Gerald R. Molen and Randy Greenberg.
Joining director Wheatley behind the camera are director of photography Haris Zambarloukous (“Belfast,” “Murder on the Orient Express”), production designer Chris Lowe (“The Gray Man,” “No Time to Die”) and editor Jonathan Amos (“Baby Driver,” “Paddington 2”). The visual effects supervisor is Pete Bebb (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” “Inception”), and costume designer is Lindsay Pugh (“The Matrix Resurrections,” “Krypton”). The music is by Harry Gregson-Williams (“The Meg,” “The Martian”).

To those that were not expecting a sequel, The Meg series is based on a book, just like Jaws and Jurassic Park are. Although not many people know that the first Jaws movie was based on a book by Peter Benchley. The Meg books, written by Steve Alten, have 8 sequels so far. The next one is called Meg: Purgatory, which should be released this year or next year. This one is based on "The Trench" which was published in 1999. Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror (The Meg movie is based on this book) (Book released in 1997, movie released in 2018) The Trench (Meg 2: The Trench is based on this book) (Book released in 1999, movie will be released this year) Meg: Primal Waters (The next movie after this one will obviously be called Meg 3: Primal Waters) (Released in 2004) Meg: Hell's Aquarium (Meg 4: Hell's Aquarium, what else would the movie be called?) (2009) Meg: Origins (I doubt this one will be made into a movie, it is a prequel story about Jonas Taylor's first encounter with the megalodon a few years before the first book that led up to his alleged psychosis) (2011) Meg: Nightstalkers (2016) Meg: Generations (The most recent sequel for now) (2020) Meg: Purgatory (????)

Films like these should continue to exist. It's not suppose to be taken seriously, just a summer movie to appreciate the fictional world of summer movie blockbuster mindset. You go to these to escape everyday mundane life, and eat popcorn together. Plus, the staff that worked on this film get to test out there skills for later projects that will require a more serious tone in a non-mega film. It's important to "Let loose" from time to time.

Hey Warner Bros! I know you're not going to see this comment or even reply to it. But I have a perfect plot idea for a possible third installment of the meg. "Meg 3 - Whale of a time" In this third installment, during the drilling of a pipeline somewhere in the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean, one of the divers who is inspecting the pipeline finds a trail of ice shards, he follows them and then the diver discovers a massive block of ice with a giant whale looking creature inside, the diver taps the ice with a hammer he had but he accidentally hits the ice too hard and it begins to crack till eventually the ice completely cracks up and the whale is freed and revealed to still be very much alive. Jonas Taylor and his team hear multiple recent reports of a giant whale attacking humans and other sea creatures and later on it is discovered what species the giant whale is - it's a livyatan! The Mana One team explain the backstory of this specific Livyatan, they explain that the Livyatan was a species of Sperm Whale that lived around 9 million years ago, and they also explain that Livyatan's often clashed with Megalodon's for dominance of the ocean, but around 5.3 million years ago all the Livyatans eventually went extinct but even though people believe all of them went extinct, it is revealed that during one of the Earth's glacial periods one Livyatan got completely frozen in a large block of ice which in turn preserved it, and for millions of years this Livyatan had been sitting on the dark depths of the ocean floor until the diver who was inspecting the pipeline freed the creature from it's icy prison. So Jonas and his team must work with the Meg to stop the Livyatan. This is just an Idea, feel free to share your thoughts!
