Holy Hell, was trying to figure out the name of this game today, i had it as a kid and couldnt for the life of me remember its name, Cheers for the upload dude.
I have to admit that the Mega Drive version is slightly better than the Genesis version, but only because the intro and end credits are slightly different and have better pacing on MD.
This is one of the most memorable games from my childhood. I was blown away by its amazing graphics, the outstanding soundtrack and the overall game design... What a fucking masterpiece, man..! The only small thing that always bothered me, was that annoying "OUT OF DANGER" alert sound at the end of the first stage... which is a contradiction in itself and it always bothered me....xD
The "Out Of Danger" part I believe had to basically do with the fact that the hero's main base of repairs, equipment, and stronghold was no longer under siege by enemy forces. That could be it but I can be wrong.
I always thought it meant that you'd cleared the blast radius from that ship crashing into the sea. But your version makes more sense, since the ship doesn't appear to explode at all.
I have a soft spot for this game. As a huge Side Arms fan and as a genesis owner this was the closest approximation of HDSA i coild get. There was a pc engine version but it looked pretty watered down. I liked pausing it during the transformation sequence to kind of picture in my mind how it went from fighter to mobile suit...( TY Macross and Mospeada) i always liked the music, i tgought the graphics were good, if not incredible ( how bout that jupiter BG tho?) but i loved the cinematic touches like the opening and the "out of danger" where ( i believe) your base ship comes crashing down. Now you HAVE to press on and shoot these guys
#3 is worthless! I guess they weren't trying to really make a weapon better than #2, because that would have to be a gun that just beats the game for you as soon as you shoot it. 2 is the go to as soon as you get it lol
I agree, the music is outstanding. The only BGM I don't like in the game is the final boss (especially considering its so dark but the boss itself is such a breeze)
@retronostalgic It should be taken into account that the Genesis/Mega Drive used mainly off-the-shelf parts and at the time when it came out, there were no sound chips that used sampling available unless they were custom made.
@Alevamltd @retronostalgic Actually if you consider it they actually brought what was standard for arcades and pc to the home as far as sound goes. FM synthesis was considered the best option economically and functionally for gaming at the time and was found every where. The amiga was considered off the wall good sound but that wasn't typical of gaming machines and computers of the time.
The Genesis intro is slightly different to the Mega Drive pal version. The pal version doesn't include that scene where you fight a few enemy ships and transform. Interesting that there would even be a difference. I wonder what else is different between them. Edit: After watching the whole video, I can see that the only other noticable difference is at the end. In the pal version the Mecha goes into arrowflash form before it circles the Earth, and this is done to that same electric guitar solo riff, then goes to the scene where the girl is standing on the Mecha after that. The music trails on a bit longer in the pal version, also.
With the boss in the first stage you can stay in the middle of the black line and not move with the plane form, like this the boss canot hit you and just you must to shot him
@@Tambundial I think that's a lie. There isn't any info available saying otherwise. However, in the japanese artwork the main character looks awfully similar to Akane Tendo from Ranma½ and Ami Mizuno from Sailor Moon
This game is worth over $200 on ebay now, for its rarity. I'm fortunate enough to still have my copy. Just need to pull out the old Mega Drive and test it to see if it's still working.
I was too young to experience the game to its fullest and hear the full soundtrack (since I was kinda bad at this game LOL). Also, I played it on the AtGames Mini-Sega Genesis thingy, so I don't remember the ost as I should (the audio had this weird effect where it would sound like nightcore-ish pitch lololol)
Bro my highest score was 820590 I finished the game without taking damage and I played in hard mode!🖤 Played this since I was 7 or something now I'm 17!
