Mega Drive Longplay [540] Shining in the Darkness (Part 1 of 2) 

The memories..... I miss my cousin and sister so much. My cousin got it for Christmas and we would play it until 3 in the morning sometimes. Those were the days. I barely hear from them now. Who else wishes there were still dungeon crawlers??

Playing it right now oldschool, with graph paper, a pencil and a rubber. Great experience, even as a grown up.

This was my first rpg game ever, oh boy so much memories.

Saw this in the video store once when I was a kid. Passed it over for Shining Force 2. Never saw it in another store since. 25 years later, I just got a Genesis copy I ordered in the mail today. Stopping by here to take a quick peek before I dive in. Really digging the music, including that battle theme.

Loved this game. I play it still but on the sega collection on the ps4.

Funny how they say "Hiro" is the default name of the central character, but in practice he doesn't really have a default name, and you have to enter "Hiro" for it to come out so. Neat game, though.

This game is tough but a great one.I remember how hard was the labyrinth but I was able to finish it.I still own the original hard copy.

Love this game. I also love the Saturn version Shining the Holy Ark.

Although I loved this game as a kid, I traded it because the labyrinth was just too much. On a later play, I got through with memorizing which paths I had and had not finished. Next time I think I'm just going to use a map. I mean, what kind of kingdom sends someone in blind ?

It's funny that the Shining series started out with a cartoony art style in this game, and then as the series progressed, they went with a more japanese looking anime art style starting with Shining Force

The way how you skipped video between lvl 1 when you died and lvl 8 when you wake up in tavern with good amount of gold in your pocket that was neat^^

I'd be lying by saying that I've finally discovered this game by this video. But, there was a very long period of time where I couldn't remember the title of this game, but had the burned image of the scenery where you overlook the tavern, exit and whatnot with the labels over them. As well as these icons. I always kept thinking that it was Shining Force but whenever I've played it, it wasn't that game. I'm thankful now that I know what it is and seeing this video of it being played. This game did try implementing a few features not replicated as much for RPGs and I kinda understand why. It's a bit unconventional to navigate that menu, for instance.

I feel like this game would have been less hard if they added a map to it. Still it's very charming, if a bit grindy. I still feel quite nostalgic when I hear the tunes. Also the encounter rate on this one is wild. Sometimes long stretches and sometimes turning around will trigger some enemies. Lethal if you are low level or low on health, boring if you are high level. Some smoothing out there would have to be done

man i remember my cousin owned this game and for some reason it scared me, like i never wanted to play it if i was by myself when i was a kid.

I'm currently playing Shining Force I on iOS. One of my three favorite tactical JRPG/SRPG series of all time(Fire Emblem and Partia(iOS)). I love grinding and I found a map around chapter 4 I think that has the perfect set up to take the enemies out without being ambushed. I shouldn't be grinding it 10+ times but hey I can't help myself.

best dungeon crawler rpg,with hardcore gameplay,awesome battles and music,and that cute fantasy story with creepy monsters...wish there will be a remake of that awesome game!

how does herb water even work? i used it when my ally was dead but nothing happened!?

Lvl 3 blue floor....living dead....keep defending and only kill 1 for a half hour.....great way 2 lvl up faster 👍👍👍
