My thoughts on X8… it’s a pretty decent game.. not too good and too bad. The word describe for X8 is Lazy Development. Duplicate Armors, Models, Copy Paste Zero techniques and attacks. Even X7 being worst of all series bad game, but at least Capcom try to put extra effort developing it… given different Models, Zero Weapon Attacks with no copy and paste and all have their own unique ability like Zero series but it’s rather useless. People are too blind to see what X8 is….. X8 mechanics are good but the development is bad… the game is full of Copy and Paste stuffs… the Ultimate armor is dissapointing. Also Icarus and Hermes are just higher jumps or three angle shot charged… Ultimate is just a mix of both. Nothing unique… I dislike X8 because of the Copy Paste, the game is somehow enjoyable but it’s lazy not fully developed less efforts game…
@@Brianycus Capcom doesn't need to make a separate game for X9 just update X Dive offline with new contents of X9, new storyline, stages, characters etc in version 2.0 at least to justify this huge price tag of X Dive offline at 30 $
I played through X8 way more times than any other video game I've ever played (and I've played a lot), just unlocking everything and waiting for X9 to come out.
I love this game too but the ammount of auto scroller stages really hurts it's reputation. I still remember revisiting every stage with different navigators for the secrets and i really loved most of it. The most bitter sweet 10/10 for me.
Your script felt scrambled, it is really jarring to hear one point then suddenly you jump to the next unrelated point and then go back to the original point. Glad you bring up Clement, he is also my childhood memories on youtube as he was my first watched channel back in 2007-2008.
Felt scrambled while it wasn't at all during the writing phase. All points lead to my experience of the game and reconnecting the dots at the end. That's how I write my scripts.
I watched the video multiple times, and I kinda get the feel of how you wrote for it. The more I watch the more uniformed it all feels. I came from the likes of Clement, Johnny, and J's Reviews for reference and I guess the different writing style threw me off a bit. Also looking at it more as an experience rather than a review is a much better feeling. Love your video. Saw it pop up on the recommended feed and I felt nostalgia so I clicked it. Definitely leaving a like.
X8 is probably the most underrated and underplayed game of the series. Too bad because it's great and a huge improvement over X7. Maybe X7 ruined it's chances.
Well, I do mind that Sigma returned again. The reason it works well with Dr. Wily is because they don't even try to hide the fact they didn't market a main villain for the classic Mega Man games, instead opting to just keep bringing him back, compared to MegaMan X, where every main villain since I assume X4 has someone else marketed as the villain, only to be overshadowed by Sigma returning.
I think Sigma's impact in this was dramatically reduced, which was a good thing, but I think the devs wanted to keep something familiar going after the disaster of Mega Man X7. I don't mind him, but I also wished he wasn't in the game to begin with.
Growing up, my ps2 memory card stopped working so I played through megaman x8 from the very beginning several times, which led to being able to finish it in one sitting and it feels good doing it all over again after almost 20 years
Mega man X8 was my 2nd favorite x game in the series but X4 was my top favorite, (Just love to speed running with Zero) also was a ClementJ64 fan of his X series as well.
Another good video. Binged watched your MegaMan and Sonic videos these past days. You definitely deserve more subs. Haven't played X8 yet but it looks fun. I will play someday if I have the time. With the X series done, will you be covering the Zero/ZX series next?
Once I fix my PC and do the Ace Attorney video I said I want to do? Yeah I'll do the Zero games next. Might as well since I really enjoyed reviewing this series. And thank you for the support! Yeah a lot of people say that and I'm working hard to make a name for myself here on RU-vid.
I think most of the gimmicks were fine. Man-o-war's stage was the only one I wasn't a fan of. I'm perfectly fine with Yeti's stage aside from it going on a bit too long.
The first time i got to play this game was on the original pc release. It came with a couple wallpapers and even a little themed desktop clock so you are always on time to commit reploid murder and pay taxes with metals. Even though the loading screens were 10 times longer (not kidding) I got to beat the game like 6 times, on hard mode and at 100% (except for unlocking the navigators it's an absolute waste of time) I also like how the game rewards your for working in a team and the soundtrack is complex af. The game was pretty difficult, it felt like the ultimate challenge for the X fans and the 3rd/2nd phase special attacks from the bosses scared me lol.
X8 is a good step from what X4 -X6 gave us and a MASSIVE improvement of what X7 gave about a year before. Right difficulty and balance and it was a solid good time in the end.
I'd just hope Yuri Lowenthal plays the role as X a replacement of Mark Gatha along with Takahiro Sakurai reprising his voice as X if not Daisuke Sakaguchi for X9.
"Hidden gem in the handheld....." Yeahan Xtreme 2 was really good for a handheld, way better than it had any right to be, it was hinestly what got me into the X games that werent x5 as a kid haha
I like this game. Some stages are too gimmicky and the bosses long I-frames are kinda annoying, but I like it. Idk how or why people rank it lower than X6 and X7.
What an interesting note to end the series on. While the games leading up to it weren't all that great, and even lost some focus, I feel that they're necessary steps in the creative process. When you end up doing something for so long, you're going to want to change things up and go in new directions. It's a shame when it becomes about numbers and sales, because here we can see the team at Capcom learned and grew from the misses in 6 and 7. And sure, we've seen what some of the people who worked on these titles have gone on to make. And a new wave of spiritual successors and fan games have taken off in recent memory. It would make sense to get this new blood and the fresh ideas of these creators to hop onboard a new X game. I dunno, could be cool.
It would be the entire world for a Mega Man X9 fot be a thing so badly. The X series is just too underrated and with the legacy collections, the need for a ninth game is there. Look at Mega Man 11 for example.

TBH? I don't see it. Mega Man games were never fully built to be multiplayer compared to Mario or Sonic where they can work the stages around for that to be a thing. Mega Man stages are mostly built with a Single Player experience in mind.
@@Brianycus true but I obviously mean with some reworking and redesigns in mind. Just the same way that the recent Mario and Sonic games are designed around multiplayer, and there are plenty of sidescroller multiplayer games to take ideas from over the years. I could see it being pretty cool. I'm just reminded of one of my best memories from New Super Mario Brothers Wii of all things where me and my friend were platforming to run away from Bowser, in a game that specifically pulled mechanics from MMX like wall jumping and such. Idk it just seems like there's potential Then again I'm also one of those people who wants to see the cancelled MM FPS to come to light so 😂
mayyybe hot take, but i love the progression in x8. it might just be the thing that makes this my favorite X game of all time. i marathoned through the series, and it was just so fun going through new game+ over and over, getting the upgrades without having to grind for metals or backtrack (mostly, earthrock trilobyte screwed up that idea), and i even found a very very fun challenge in playing the game once again in hard mode with the navigators and no life-ups. you'd be surprised at how much playing as alia makes you miss X's armor upgrades, lol playing and replaying in this way also made me find fun uses for some of the special weapons, which i had never integrated into gameplay before. drift diamond easily clears boxes in inferno's autoscroll section and shreds enemies at close range, squeeze bomb shields you from copy sigma's homing projectiles, green spinner can break enemy guards while you charge the buster, flamethrower eats ride armor enemies, crossbow has spammable homing arrows, plasma gun instantly dismounts vile from his armor... it's a very good game for getting creative just realized i didn't even comment on the video itself, lmao. i agree with basically everything you mentioned, it's so good to see someone understand x8 as an arcade-like game! in retrospect i also have to agree that the story doesn't present itself very well, maybe they intended to clear things up in x9 or maybe it was just faulty writing, either way i feel your critiques were fair (sorry for the wall of text, i have sooo many thoughts on mmx8 that it's hard to focus on only the relevant ones lol)
I played most of X7 when it came out but never picked up X8. When I bought the legacy collections I played through the first 6 and then tried X7 and never bothered to attempt X8 expecting more of the same. Maybe I'll go back and try it.
Not going to lie, I didn't like anything after x6. Even though x8 tried to return to form, the 2.5D makes it feel weird for me and the story was strange to me. Still, it was better than X7 imo.
2nd X that I play the most (of course X4 is no.1)❤ X8 may has its own flaws but if X9 exists sometimes in the future😂, they could based on X8 and improve it.
Subbed. It would be cool if you reviewed it kinda like a walkthrough. Like Marsh who does shin megami tensei games. Thanks for covering this it isnt played much. You should review godhand bro
I review games based on my experience and I don't like making it into a walk through style. I can only do that with Visual Novels if you look at my Justice for All review from Ace Attorney. Everything else is kinda like this style.
i think that call it "a masterpiece" it's a little too much. i mean, the game is really good, but it just came to fix the awful mess that X7 was. the mechanics are really cool and, also, bringing back the 2-3D gameplay, that never should've been left out in the first place.
It's a "masterpiece" in the sense that it's a return to form. It's leagues better than X7 and it's easily one of the better X games in terms of quality. But you are right
Honestly talking about X8, this the third favorite MMX game to me even with his flaws, like that annoying Gigabolt stage and the metals inconsistent system. I really like this game because it tried to revive the franchise after the MMX7's failure, but about that... well, Capcom dont care about the series anymore by only caring about MMXDive, or somehow a MMX9 will be lauched soon later (if the developers care about the series). Anyway, MMX8 is awesome in the same take to MMX2 and MMX4, or even MMXCommand Mission, at least for me.
The level design is a bit too erratic far me i also completely detest the redesigns. The game does have some hiod points tho. They finally balanced axl into a distinct and useful character.
i do agree with level design. You have a few good stages like Bamboo Forest, Primrose, and Troia Base, but then you have two stages with ride chasers and the balance feels off.
X8 is good, but it has a lot of problems. Many of the stages suck. They aren't fun to replay. Either they are auto scrolling or wallpapered with spikes to increase the difficulty. It's a good looking game. It's a great sounding game. I played through it at least 12 times to get enough money to buy all the unlockables and the hidden female characters. I give it a B-.
Although I do agree that X8 is a good game, I just can't enjoy the game much because of the grinding, the few bad stages that IMO, are some ot the worst from the whole franchise, and the slightly odd feeling hitboxes
The grind fest is the biggest crutch the game has in terms of wanting to play it. Especially since you just want to main upgrades, but you don't get them like in the previous games, which causes so much backtracking
All due respect, criticism from a fellow writer and reviewer, you might wanna format things a bit better. Have a smoother structure or know how to better outline your review. It felt like you were jumping from point to point at random with little cohesion, as if everything was scrambled together or as if this was written as you went along. All mistakes I’ve made before. I’ve enjoyed this, but a third of this felt like not much was being said. If you already do outline your work, maybe this is a wording issue, hopefully I myself an not wording this comment terribly. Your other megaman vid about Capcom neglecting felt a lot smoother compared to this if that helps. Have a good day and good luck in your vids, you clearly have talent for this.
Respect given. Critics heard. However, structure? Theyre the same thing bro I don't know what you mean. Especially since this one was more organized than the other video. That one I legit just improvised on the spot. This one has a structure on the chapters and has a flow with it, revised and everything (4 revisions). Also you have to understand that I won't be covering everything. This is literally just me playing a game, making jokes, and talking about my thoughts and how I feel. Appreciate the comment and feedback
man why can Sonic be allowed to sell failures after failures especially after 06 while after one big flop that's X7 Mega Man is just like dead to Capcom
Because Sonic has been able to rise above it if that makes any sense. Plus Sonic is built differently compared to Mega Man X, a sub-series of a larger series itself. If it was Mega Man OG, then it's a different story
So sonic unleashed, sonic colors, sonic generations, sonic mania, and sonic frontiers are failures then. Like the poster said, they’re built different than mega man x. Like yeah it sucks that Capcom aren’t making any more x series games (the entire franchise really) because of the failures, but you can’t go to another series saying “this series keeps having failures and they’re still making games, but this series doesn’t.” Blame that on Capcom for doing nothing to this great series.
Having not played it since its initial release, I re-visited this one with my discord buddies. I am now considering rating it lower than X7, as the worst Mega Man X game.
X6 is superior to both because, despite its flaws, it looks great and controls great. X7 has iffy controls and moves too slow for my liking. It is still bad. X8 is fast-paced and controls fine for the most part, HOWEVER: it is constructed almost entirely of poor game and level design. Retry Chips are a decent compromise between strict Game Overs and X4+'s meaningless continues. However, after running out, you can't simply start the stage again-you have to go back to stage select, choose your team, wait through the animations. Some VA choices were poor, Vile absolutely didn't need to come back, and the added navigators added the illusion of choice to an already unnecessary mechanic. Nearly every stage gimmick is awful. TWO maverick stages are ride-style? It's like they're trying to make up for the fact that X6 did not have one (another point for X6). Primrose's spiked block trial chamber was a nightmare-you have to hope and pray Vile will randomly and mercifully fight you instead. The final Moon stages, as platformers, are obscene. None of X's weapons are fun to use. His armor is ugly and most of the parts aren't interesting. Icarus Buster in particular has a decent upgrade to the buster shots, but the full charge is a massive detriment, freezing you in place. X6's armors were peak. Most of Zero's techniques are not fun to use. Most of Zero's weapons are novelties, or feel or look silly. Axl is the only one who wins here, with a half-decent set of weapons. But his signature copy ability still blows.
@@AstroTibs X8 is definitely not as worse as X7 based on all that you said. I'd argue it's the better experience because it was a return to what X was always like. X7's development phase shows that X7 was a 2D game that ultimately was made into 3D that ended up fumbling. X8's flaws are there, but in terms of pure replay value, it is up there with X6 because of New Game Plus mode. X6 is good, but has some of the worst level design that you have to cheat to play the game normally via Ultimate Armor or Black Zero. X8 isn't that. As for the stage designs, I've said they are great and the ride chasers and Inferno's aut scroller are the only bad traits. The rest are fine. Special weapons have always been a miss for most X games, and X8 is no expectation to that rule. However, it still has a solid gameplay system that works unlike X7 where because of the 3D section and its ridiculous slow movement, there's no incentive for gameplay. So to say that X8 is worse than X7 is just not it, even through personal observations in my view.
@@Brianycus I'll have to really dive back into X7 to cement this opinion, to be fair, but right now X7 and X8 are undoubtedly fighting for bottom spot. The worst of X6's levels are still better than the worst of X8's (I know how controversial this sounds). Even with X6's stupid oversights for completing a couple stages and those awful serpent robots, X6 wins out over X8's ride stages, boring-playing Troia Base, ugly-looking Inferno, the horrendous Primrose block dodge room, and Sigma's Moon Spike Emporium. Booster Forest is the shining beacon in the game. X6 can sometimes be frustrating. But to me, X8 is more frequently frustrating; and when it's not, it's boring.
They could ignore Sigma, just use another villain or just let the plot twist happens instead, if they ever do a X9 I'm pretty sure there'll be a Sigma battle at some point even if he isn't the final boss like X8, I'm done dealing with the same villain for more than 30 years, not including Bowser here, just let new villains refresh old sagas
I hope if an X9 happens, they make it like the Zero games. A final boss per game that isn't the same dude, but still progresses the story forward. Maybe that's why the Zero games are the GOATs
