Dapol are a fun company to follow. They’ve struggled with performance in the past with some of their locomotives, but they’ve been getting better over time, whilst also keeping their prices fairly reasonable. I wonder if the motors on the large prairie have been improved, that was one of the weaker parts of that model, or so I’ve heard. It’s weird that dapol have had so many problems in the past, because their mechanisms on paper are right what you’d want them to be, and yet several just didn’t work properly, or didn’t last long. But I do root for them, they give the impression they are trying to do their best in most areas. I don’t know if they actually are, but that’s the impression I get. They’ve even invested in infrastructure so that some of their models can be produced in the UK. They aren’t as pretty, but they are affordable!
Wow, not a modeller currently I watch what's going on. Something for everyone there. Brilliant line up. I used to see the ore hoppers regularly on the Banbury Etruria workings in the evenings. I had a commendation once for having a train stopped with a hot box. The journal actually fell of as it came to a stand preventing a major accident. 👍👍
What a contrast with Hornby's model cancellations and price increases. However Dapol need to move on from using tender drive and traction tyres on their tender stean locomotives. The industry has moved on from that and if you put the motor in the locomotive you have space for a speaker in the tender.
