Reminds me of when I was a kid picking them off the tree. Got sent a mulberry tree instead of a fig tree a few months back. I’ll be putting it in ground come spring.
Last year I only had Dwarf Black Mulberry like yours. You described the flavour perfectly. (Standard Black English mulberry flavour). its dwarf too but quite tall at around 4-5 meters. (so much for dwarf lol!). The tag at Bunnings said it grows up to 3 meters tall so that must mean the full size mulberries will grow absolutely enormous. My Dwarf Black tree is also loaded with fruit the birds aren't picking too much of it either. In my opinion way easier and more rewarding fruit than blackberries which I can't be bothered with lol. This year I got to try White Shahtoot I that bought and planted from Ross Creek Tropicals last year. The fruit is incredible. It has honey, banana, (slight vanilla flavour). I can't imagine red shahtoot, but I might collect all the shahtoots now will see. I know the Pakistani Black is highly regarded too. Excellent video, thanks for sharing I always enjoy your content :)
The Shahtoot Mulberries are unsurpassed for flavour, the white is my absolute favourite but the tree grows huge, like 5-6 metres in 3 years. Red Shahtoot isn't as sweet but it's the best red of them all and it's a true dwarf. I'm currently waiting for the Black Shahtoot to give the first fruit. I have the less tasty varieties for mulch as they grow so damn fast. Thanks for watching!
I am the eldest one of my cousins and in my childhood I used to climb every fruiting trees in my neighborhood to get the best fruits. Guava, mango, mulberry, peach and plums were our favorite ones. We will eat mulberries till we had our bellies full. Nobody scolded us because we were children. lol
Haha they all grow like dwarfs here for me in our climate. I'm actually going to try and clear an area i use for pots storage in a corner to see if i can plant my red shahtoot into the ground to get a decent crop
Berries are packed with health benefits and tasty, some sweeter than others. However, guessing by your name you are the fortunate one, to be surrounded by the best tropical fruit in the world!
@@RealLifeFruitopia Yes, I love fruits with their natural benefits. Yes, you are right, living in Malaysia, the tropical fruits are such a delight. But, the imported fruits such as berries, cherries, grapes, apples, pears, oranges, peaches, plums etc are quite expensive nowadays. Have a great weekend. 😀
It seems they are busy with other trees in the area, as spring is smorgasborg season for nesting birds. I'll be covering my red shahtoot in a few days, that's one we don't share until our bellies hurt.
What’s the difference between the taste of mulberries compared to blackberries? And I think that sometimes “dwarf” only means it it will grow slower and sometimes they use that term to say that it will bear fruit “sooner”. Doesn’t seem to make sense all the time! 😅
I grew blackberries over 10 years ago. They grew like bushy raspberries, were invasive and thorny. Mulberry is easy to shape into a tree with regular pruning, and it's thornless. Shahtoot mulberries are by far the sweetest of all the berries that I've had.
Dwarf nomenclature is confusing and odd in the fruiting plant world. I've heard to "Dwarf" sized trees (naturally, via selection or through grafting), "Dwarf" in relation to a trees fruiting age (such as "Dwarf Malay" or "Dwarf Green" coconut trees; still grows into a tall coconut tree, but will fruit when younger or "shorter", and "Dwarf" related to keeping the plant potted and restricting space for root growth.
