Knowing you probably wrote that ambient bit in the beginning, I would love to see you start your own side project. I know you’re a busy man but it would really be something seeing u release your own single or EP.
So nice to see modern records still getting produced this way at such a high level. So much modern rock/metal now is so reliant on post processing and post production, awesome to see you getting amazing results straight off the mics. Top knotch engineering as usual
I agree! But at the same time, many modern bands just don't have the budget (or any budget at all). So really, reliance on post-processing is often born out of necessity. And it's awesome that all these possibilies exist nowadays.
Love all your videos mate, feel like I'm closer to buying a quad cortex every time I watch one. Very excited to see the result of your work with Adam... 👌
Fantastic! What is the name of the band you are working with here on this session. Keen to know where to find the finished product. And very keen to also hear the project with Adam. Great drummer
Interesting insights, thanks for walking us through this session! The desk mix sounded so good... I'm convinced that room mics are essential for that massive snare sound
George, woah! The production. Gorgeous shots, nice transitions, the details. So refreshing to see the amount of effort being put into videos like this. You're awesome, keep it up!
Man, your video production is unreal! I love how much I learn from your videos, and feel like I'm at a high-end spa at the same time. Definitely one of my favourite youtube channels I follow
wow this channel rules - this is exactly the kind of content I want. I'm surprised my youtube algorithm took this long to show me something from your channel. Those u47 clones in omni against the back wall sound great!
That ambient guitar piece at the top with the rain wins. The final drum sound was amazing. I very much appreciated your approach to getting used to speakers you are not familiar with. What i also like is the drums sound "live" (if that's the right word) i find a lot of productions now sound sterile. Its like everyone is so concerned about being super compressed and super tight and all the "vibes" are gone, don if I'm explaining myself well lol. a lot of the 90's grunge have this lovely super vibes drumsound that i really like. I find what you got has that but still has a modern sound.
A lot of modern metal records seem to use the same or very similar samples (snare, kick, rooms) and a lot of the dynamics of the drums are lost. The 90s grunge drum mixes used little to no sampling and the rooms sounded more unique and alive.
Dude, I love your picture so much ... what a beautiful light. Cool ambient guitar when you're talking. Great session and mic placement. Now I'm really interested in how you mix your drums. Have you done any overdubs?
This was such a wonderful video to watch. It brought me a lot of peace and calm while thinking about my approaching future in the audio/music world. I'd love to see more videos of this format!
Where has this channel been all my life, i find so many recording channels that are cool but feel a bit stale, even home studio channels are a little stale and all about product details and shit talk with no human feel, taking things a bit too serious, its like watching QVC, this video is absolutely sick and down to earth, nice one I'm subbing))
You nailed it. Products are boring. The only time I'll review something is if it genuinely changes the way I work (at which point its relevant to my life and belongs on this channel) or If I'm involved with the development of whatever it is.
@@GeorgeLeverG1 I got a small studio down in newquay and use a basic apollo setup no outboard and its in my living room over looking the beach, strengths and weaknesses, i set things up to sound the best they can based on what we've agreed together, but other than that i spend most of my time trying to read any stress in the room or people being on different pages or a gtr player that's nervous or too stoned or over thinkin, or a drummer thats still pissed off in subtle ways at the bass player for something trivial that happened in a van on the a30 last year, i try to get them as close to where they were when they wrote it, i used to love gear but I've learned that getting the human part bang on (ish) brings so many more weird and fresh levels to the session than over thinkin gear and its really rewarding. I'm recording mostly beginner or part time musicians, who sometimes have jobs they dislike don't believe in themselves or drink a lot can't be on time etc etc so getting these dudes to believe in themselves and relax for the day does way fucking more than any preamp, mic or plug in could ever do! Shit that was long, HUGE THANKS FOR WHAT YOU DO ITS REALLY INSPIRED ME.
Amazing video man! It is really interesting seeing how a professional producer sets up everything for recording. Also amazing footage and video style. Love the colour grading. Re-also, you're never boring and funny in your video .
You're making great progress in terms of shooting/editing these videos, congrats! What advice would you give an engineer going to a studio for the first time in relation to the outboard gear there: book more time to check everything is patched properly and set the levels? Disregard it and do it all ITB at first? I never actually used a proper studio. Thanks!
If "Cinematic" isn't your middle name, it should be. Came here after finding out you produced some of my favorite albums, namely for Sleep Token. Now I'm picturing you cooking for them - blindfolded of course.
I'm using that synth at 2:32 in one of my songs. Think it is the ending of Strawberry Cat. It is funny to hear that sound in a totally different environment.
Easily one of the best audio production channels on here. I ran across “Gored” by accident and was taken by the production. I immediately had to find out who was behind the wheel. Huge fan of your work!
I've always been curious about how to blend more than one set of room mics? What is the thought process behind getting those close and far mics balanced? What are you looking for?
Think of room mics like taking a photograph with from different vantage points The closer the room mic (polarity allowing) will show you more of the kit and less of the room influence. The further away the mic is the more of the room / landscape you will see and hear in return. The balance from that point determines then how much you want to bring the kit 'forward' in the room while keeping the ambience alive.
