Today we are setting up and reviewing footage of a Dahua fisheye security camera. It’s a 12mp camera with a 1.98mm lens and given its hefty price and that has a Sony senor and Starvis technology on board. First off, Starvis simply means the camera can produce high quality images in low visible light and with IR light. It’s a back-illuminated sensor and can supposedly capture a wider range of light than a regular sensor. We’ll put that to the test when we install this camera in various locations.
I got mine for $360US but the price can be as high as $1220. Given the high price point, let’s be picky and see if we are getting a flawless end-to-end experience from unboxing to recording day and nighttime footage. Product links are in the description below.
This camera has a huge 1/1.7” CMOS sensor and can deliver video at 25fps @ 12mp or 4000 X 3000 pixels. I can tell already that BlueIris is going to struggle with disk utilization with my 12 cameras, even with “direct to disk” turned on and frame rates lowered.
I review the contents of the contents of the box. There is a CD included but I hope the instructions are clear. Looking at the quick install guide, it’s difficult to understand as it’s written with Google translate. And here we have the camera itself. Now you can definitely feel the quality here. This is where they invested the money. It has a very solid and sturdy metal case and weights just over 2 pounds. Given its low profile and good quality and secure mount this camera is classified as IK10 vandal-resistant. The camera is IP67 weather proof works at -30 degrees Celsius or -22 Fahrenheit which is important to know here in Canada.
I download and install Config Tools allowing me to activate and update the IP address so I can access the device on my computer using Blue Iris. I installing the camera in various test locations to see how the footage looks before installing it permanently. I install it on the awning over my deck, on the front of my house, in my living room and face-up looking at the sky.
Config tools was a challenge to use and once I discovered Smart PSS, it also found its many difficulties in awkward terminology and the menu setup. The firmware on the camera also has some issues and added to my disappointment.
In testing the camera, the daytime footage was fantastic but the nighttime records were of poor quality and my $100 Hikvision cameras from 4 years ago offer a better picture. The mic did work well and the camera proved to be waterproof, but did not handle the frost well as it obstructed the lens.
It’s a nice camera but not worth the crazy price tag.

Thank you for reviewing this camera. It's the first time I've seen a fish eye model and the dewarping features. I have had similar software issues with my older Dahua cameras--their web UI and configuration isn't great.

I'm in process of building an nvr with a couple 16port poe switches. BV and Netgear make some with 200w power with poe+ ports. Would be glad to hear and share optimization experiemces

Hi, I'm intrigued about this camera working with the Hikvision NVR you had at the start of the video. You tossed it away because it wouldn't let you activate the camera, but can you activate it with the provided software and then connect it to the NVR? and a more important question, the fisheye cameras have the functionality of being watched as many "normal" cameras, can you do this with this NVR connecting a camera from another vendor using ONVIF?

Interesting camera, also like the new video background, and well done with the audio quality!

Great review. I dont see a fisheye cam being useful footage, and I agree, its getting frustrating with web interfaces and glitches. I purchased 22 assortment of cameras, and I found a couple that do a good job at OK prices: Onwote PTZ 5mp 4xzoom, Morphxstar 4k 4xzoom bullet. These are Great. Returning all fomes due to overhang installs causing glare, very frustrating. I also like a Jennov, and One run ptz

Good review I just got one of these camera and mounted it on my roof. This is the box you'll to fasten the camera to. Lorex Flir Dahua PFA132 Junction Box: Aluminum, Waterproof. I got one of them on ebay and it has a 1/2 in pipe connector that a threaded conduwit threaded pipe bolts on to. I also pulled this into one of my NVR and it auto configured the IP address to 10.0*. So then its locked to that NVR. You can find the reset button inside the camera to put the IP address back to 192.168.1.108. This also works with UFODAP software. It can be a pain in the ass until you get it all figured out.

Awesome review as always! I'm still not sure if I would spend that kind of money on this camera or put it toward a nice tracking PTZ... Oh and by way you have a beautiful home!

Thanks Captain Rick!! Agreed, the money would be better put somewhere else. A nice tracking PTZ would be awesome! Now to figure out where I'm actually going to install that fisheye camera.

Thank you for this great video. I am very interesting in mounting a fisheye camera like this that is aimed straight up all the like you do at about the 12:45 mark to monitor the sky 24/7. Do you recommend any other cameras that do this better ? Maybe HIKVISION or other brand? I have fisheye cameras that do this already but it requires Windows computer/software etc and aren't as handy as a dedicated CCTV network camera. Thanks for any advice you can give.

This is the only fisheye I have used. I still have it mounted straight up looking at everything that passes over.

Hi I enjoy your video .i have a question I have Hikvision nvr 8 camera Poe if I wanna ad more camera to nvr can I use a Poe switch any thoughts thanks
@HomeTechDIY
@HomeTechDIY 5 лет назад
Yeah, you can add them in 2 ways with a PoE switch. If the PoE switch is on your network, you can add a LAN camera like I show here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rOoCw-iZfMU.html If you don't want to have the cameras and NVR on your network, you could extend your NVR's ports by plugging the PoE switch into a port on the NVR and then add cameras to the PoE switch. You will need to know the cameras IP address if the NVR doesn't find them automatically. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this useful review! Camera mount mechanism looks ridiculous for such an expensive equipment. Definitely not vandal proof. Who could ever rate this IK10?

I have a Dahua 12MP dome camera on my NVR. It's supposed to be 4K resolution and 30fps. It can only attain 25 fps. When an object, e.g. a car, or runner passes by and I pause the video, the image is smeary, blurry and unrecognisable. I can't seem to find a way to set it to high resolution or high frame rate. The first time I turned on I spend a day trying to set the right parameters and have not found a way to set to high resolution even though it is already set to 1280x1024 the image appears blurry even after I inspected the dome glass for fingerprints, dried rain drops or dust, the image is like 480p. How do I set it to high resolution?
@CMK-Security
@CMK-Security Год назад
60hz/50hz switching Changes frame Rates. However 5 more FPS wont give you a clearer Image on a Runner or fast object. Only 60fps cameras can do so. Example: Axis LPR camera.

No plans as of now. These are expensive units and the channel doesn't really have the budget at the moment.

No way to switch between profiles (like night and day) automatically based on lighting conditions or/and based on sunrise/sunset times throughout the year, is a bummer. Huge one.

Hello, can you help me please, i have DS-2CD2142FWD-I camera and DAHUA nvr and camera worked with NVR great until I reinstalled camera, then camera now doesn’t want to work with NVR. I changed settings like before but still doesn’t work.

Make sure the IP address of the camera is the same IP address you are entering for that channel in the NVR. If you are still having trouble, send me a note with the IP addresses of the camera and the DVR. It should be something like 192.168.1.10. info@newfiebort.com

Why it is not using DHCP by default? Come on. I expect device to just show up and work on my network, and use mDNS/Avahi for discovery, even if I do not know op address or it changes (but most DHCP servers, including ones in cheap routers, will remember Mac address and assign same ip forever basically , or can be saved manually). Also does it even support ipv6?
