Great video Brian! Adding in the C2C video to show the action on the stick gives a great perspective that you never see on other rod reviews. You absolutely nailed it bro! The SD is definitely one of my favorite rods. It’s an amazing skipping rod, and an amazing chatter stick too!
This is a spot on review! The only thing I might have recommended is if you run the rod with 30lb braid it takes on a whole new life! I run one with 16lb flouro for swimjigs and chatterbaits in sparse cover but when you swap to the braid it is an unbelievable topwater and t-rig craw rod
This was one of your funnier videos. Your passion for this rod could be Heard- due to your funny sounds :) well done and yes, the P5 line up is amazing.
Nailed it. Super explanation of a Japanese heavy single hook rod. The freeze-frame inset of the rod bend was awesome. Look forward to your next one. Debo mentioned you were his guest this Saturday. Should be fun
Fun frogging rod too. I saw you got those slither K’s and being on the smaller side, they are perfect for it. I have never fished an Xbites but of the 3 P5’s I’ve owned (SD, Madbull, and Windbuster) it’s easily the most sensitive of the 3. Totally made me understand why my dad still loves little 6’6” rods, the way it cracks hooksets is super fun
I may be amongst the minority or maybe it's because i fish mostly on the CA Delta, but i much prefer shorter rods because we mostly fish shallow. Don't get me wrong i love my XX for punching and stuff but megabass makes quite a few underrated shorter rods.
P5's are what I run on the Delta. I love the shorter lengths. TS Poker for the punch (and bigger frogs). The Super Destroyer is probably my most used rod, because it runs so many baits well. Perfect for a kayak or bank, due to versatility and length.
@@marcuslucarelli2329thanks for sharing! I fish delta and lakes like berryessa. Would you recommend me to choose super destroyer or xbite or other model to be my jig and soft plastic rod? Thank you!
I absolutely adore your reviews man, i own the previous model super destroyer and it's one of my go to junk fishing rods. Always has a use even if it's just an alternative color.
it has enough power to hook set walleye? Because, almost every fisherman in my country recomend to use ex. fast rods for walleye, because it have verry boneish mouth, and it need a lot of power to get the hook in. So i want to try this rod for that typo off fishing jig for zander (walleye)
Hey Punch. If you were looking for a shorter , versatile rod for kayak fishing, would this be a decent standing for the much longer xbites/dark sleeper rods or too much power?
Great video! Would you mind explain why you like the super destroyer over xbite? I’m not looking for versatility, i want a jig and soft plastic rod in the p5 line up. Mostly fishing small lakes in Northern California. Thank you again for making the videos! I found them really helpful
If you want just a straight jig and soft plastic rod in the P5, I would look at the Xbites or FMJ. Or grab a XX perfect pitch. I like the SD because it can also toss moving baits really well like swim jigs/buzz baits.
I totally understand what you mean about the hooksets. It took me a long time to get a good hookup ratio with my Tachyon Shaft and I went through the same recalibration. Now when I get bit on it I crackem instantly and it does that super well.
Awesome video! Thank you for your content. I am debating between the Super Destroyer or the X-Bites for finesse football jigs. Which rod would you recommend for this application? I would also like to throw chatter baits and Texas rigs on it as well. Please advise!
watched one video yesterday liked it a lot love your videos just subscribed today looking forward to seeing many more love and respect to you and your family Paul frome p.a
I’ve noticed that the heavy taper on this rod is unlike typical American rod tapers. I own a poison adrena 611 medium plus. The taper on this rod is very much a medium tip plus medium heavy backbone. How would you describe the taper on the SD? Medium heavy tip plus heavy backbone, or something different? Saving my dollars anyways, and any perspective appreciated.
How would you compare this to the 6'11"m+? I have a PA 6'10"m and would like something a step more powerful but similar. The m+ has always been the plan but I love the carbon handle + it's always fun to try new things
I am glad to hear that it bumped the X-Bites down. I have the Super Destroyer and the Madbull and wanted the x-bites next. Perhaps, it’ll be the Dark Sleeper instead. How does it compare with the Tachyon Shaft?
I haven't fished the Dark Sleeper personally and I don't plan on getting one, it felt really soft to me in the store and I already have a Daemos. I also haven't touched the Tachyon Shaft.
The dark sleeper rod is so sick. If you are fishing any kind of swim jigs or dark sleepers it kills it. It’s amazing for that technique. I’m not sure how they did it but you seem to feel everything and not miss any fish at all. It seems like the flex is the perfect amount where the fish can inhale it and you can feel it and set the hook without delay and still catch them. Not the greatest for chatter baits though. The tachyon shaft is much stiffer and to me is way more sensitive than the super destroyer. If you like flipping and pitching real close tight docks and cover it is awesome. But if you are bombing jigs far it’s a bit short. But I prefer super fast rods for pitching with decent power to move fish out fast. One thing I noticed is almost all the P5 line has a spot for one specific technique that they are super good at. There are a few exceptions like the super destroyer which can do a ton of things really well.
@@naturecutsinc1108 my only issue is it feels soft over 1/2oz. It absolutely kills 3/8s jigs. I want to use it for sleeper gills but I’m just worried it will over power it
I have both.. I prefer super destroyer ..Tachyon shaft feels like a broom stick to me. Anything under 1/2 oz doesn't load up very well on tachyon shaft. Super destroyer has same bend as nrx+ 873c crr... Tachyon shaft feels and fishes like the old bearing down .. Tachyon shaft is stiffer and has more power than super destroyer...
@@raytubach8988 I think in this context he definitely uses it appropriately. The rod bends deeper at the the tip, continues to bend (but less) down pretty far into the blank. Parabolic as in the bend amount tapers off at a slightly inconsistent rate, but still far down on the rod.
@@tannerk3732 parabolic defines an increasing radius beginning immediately where no portion is not a curve. In this case the rod would need to begin flexing down into the handle to be truly parabolic. That’s not what that rod does. It is more of a moderate action
I got the steez ct SV for like $430 from TW using some mlf code they had. Maybe still valid. At that price it's sick. If I had spent $700 *I* would be sick.
@@The_Bass_Stunters agree, I pulled the trigger cause of ol Ben at hook up last year, but more or less my top water rod to go with the jerkbait special for smaller topwaters. Some like the big squarebills on the madbull too. I haven't used it for that tho.
This was my first P5 last year. And I love it. I was super happy with how it could throw anything from a Texas/Free Rig to a spinnerbait to dragging a 3/4oz football. Thank you for this review because I was heavily debating if I wanted to buy an x-bites but it sounds like I can put that money elsewhere in the collection.
The grip is a little slippery and it's probably softer than most people anticipate based on the previous super destroyers. Other than that I don't really think so. 🤷♂️
I have the Super Destroyer as well and I am not a big fan of it for jigs. The handle is too slick and taper is to slow to me for the quick hook sets you described. I have other rods that do a better job... Loomis 803C NRX and GLX, 844C GLX, 904 NRX+, and the 873CCR NRX. However, it is a great rod and fun to fish. If I am going to take one rod on a kayak that is capable of doing it all, it's the Super Destroyer. I can't describe it but somehow this rod, with its weird taper, bends perfectly at different weights and loads. Also, you are right about weightless Senkos. To me it works great for Texas rigged stuff with a bullet weight or even a Free Rig.
