What an excellent video! Thank you for the effort you have put into it. I first got to know of the bus service between Glasgow and Aberdeen as a boy growing up in Glasgow in the immediate post-war years. I never thought then that the day would come when a bus would leave Glasgow for Aberdeen, and after clearing a handful of traffic lights in the city centre wouldn't stop again until Perth! I remember always being keen on buses, and I was especially in awe of the services from Glasgow to the north (Aberdeen and Inverness) that were in the 1950's seen as superior top-drawer bus travel. You had to book ahead, and the journey took most of the day. I remember in the case of the Inverness service there was an extended lunch stop at Dunkeld, and also a morning and afternoon tea stop, at Blackford or Auchterarder, and at Kingussie. The Aberdeen service parted company with the Inverness service 17 at Perth, and since the journey was shorter and the terrain much less arduous than the old A9 route to the north, the Aberdeen bus took much less time than the eight-and-a-half hours required to reach Inverness. Naturally such exclusive long-distance services commanded the cream of the fleet. It was in 1953 that the Alexander bus company, who provided the bulk of Scottish bus services, and also were a formidable builder of buses, introduced their impressive "Coronation" bus body on the Leyland Royal Tiger chassis. There is still one in existence, having been well restored, at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum in Fife. So these were used on the Aberdeen and Inverness services. It so happened that I lived beside Cumbernauld Road along which the buses travelled on their way out of Glasgow. I often turned out to watch them pass by. On busy days there would be duplicates assigned to the Aberdeen service, although the Inverness service was seldom as busy. And so it was that I was able to watch this majestic procession of Royal Tigers go by, each one gliding along as if by magic, for of course there was no engine visible: the recently introduced underfloor engine thus allowing the front of the bus to be completely flat and smooth, and the addition of a deep front visor gave the "Coronation" additional stylistic flair. I was also lucky enough to travel on these services, my parents returning once a year to their original home in the north to visit family. I remember the plush upholstery and sheer comfort that was so different from the workaday local service buses that I was more used to. Modern bus seat provision has lost that feel of luxury, but unfortunately seats now have to be "vandal-proof" in a way they didn't have to be in the past. These are just a few impressions that may or may not be of interest. There is a continuity between then and now, although the differences are striking. Perhaps the biggest difference is the way we regard such journeys nowadays. Today we think of them in a more matter-of-fact way. Back then however a bus trip between Glasgow and Aberdeen was a big event: people planned it well in advance, and they looked forward to it. For most of them the aim was to get to where they were going. For the bus enthusiast however the destination was only part of it, and I still have clear memories of the journeys made in my childhood out of Glasgow to Aberdeen and Inverness. Let me add that I'm very glad to have made one again, thanks to this splendid video!

I know McGills disposed of most/all of their bendy fleet. “Everyone” knows the Swiss drive on the right, but I take it from your reply that McGills old busses are not in Zurich and couldn’t be without complex conversion. The video itself might interest bus nerds but is also attractive others who want to see our country. I watch the equivalent American truck videos for the scenery and - often - the driver’s opinions, rather than the kind of rig they drive.

Almost 3 hours for a 150 mile (or thereabouts) journey?? I can get from Manchester Airport to Palma De Mallorca Airport (Majorca, Balearic Islands) in 2 hours and 15 minutes and that is over 1000 miles What a waste of a 3 hour coach journey lol

Hardly comparable! And I’d be amazed if you could drive a bus from the centre of Glasgow via Perth and Dundee to the centre of Aberdeen collecting passengers and sticking to the speed limit in anything less than 3 hours. I certainly can’t!!!
